Jesse Jackson had talked about going over there to try to negotiate a peace. Please tell me that it was Jesse Jackson that helped get them free.

whoaaaaaa - WAYYYY too late in the day to tackle that site. I went and peeked and panicked within seconds at some of the larger words.

(j/k Jph - interesting site, I'll check it out better tomorrow)

Thanks Jph, good site. I'll read more later also. It is informative....not that I won't screw up my forces with their weapons in later posts though.

I heard on the radio that the Taliban was just about to hand the aid workers over to the Red Cross... but then the Northern Alliance troops showed up and the Taliban ran away.

Uh huh.

That's their dumb asses for being soul soliciting pig fuc.kers in a country that was pretty clear about where it stands on proselytizing, preaching to a religion that is pretty clear about where it stands on proselytizing.

No sympathy. Now they'll just come home and try to convert people here.

43% - My sentiments exactly. Just a couple more people to knock on my door.

Oh, and here's a helpful hint for getting rid of religious fanatics at your door. It struck me in a moment of inspiration a few years ago.
I had just sat down to eat dinner when the inevitable knock came. I answered the door (still holding my drink) and as soon as they started their jeebus pitch I dumped my beverage all over the crotch of the closest guy. Since he couldn't continue knocking on doors looking like a candidate for adult diapers, they got in their car and left my neighborhood (after some heated discussion).
I still get misty thinking about it...

My apologies to OrphanedWombat and to Spike for appearing so "up-in-arms" about Christianity, I guess it just bothers me that a religion so based on peace preservation and showing love for people other than themselves receives so much flak (especially for things beyond their control, i.e. the Holy Rollers, people taking scripture out of context for their own agendas, and so forth). I should have kept my comments to myself, or in a more religion-oriented forum. My apologies again.

Ehr, the taliban did hand them over to the red cross and the special forces flew in to pick them up, that's what every newspaper I've read about it says.

But hey, let's pretend there was a huge firefight where they were rescued by the supreme US forces in a stealthy operation instead shall we?

Oh, and everyone who disagreees is a pinko-hippie-terrorist supporter

A double-standard is standard with punkbiatches like these losers. Eight hostages were freed yesterday, a cause for celebration for 99 percent of the civilized world...yet no surprise whatsoever that this sh it was posted in here again by these hate-laden dickheads.

If the hostages had been executed, one or more of these punks would have posted "Not bad, let's send 'em some more."

When asked if her daughter would continue her religious mission work, Oddy said she probably wouldn't for the near future.

"From letters we've received from Heather, I think she just needs some down time," she said.

Couldn't really feel sorry for them to begin with.....

2001-11-15 02:38:23 AM
Freddy,

Although I don't wish them any particular harm, I'm fairly indifferent to their status. These arrogant bastards were trying to convert people to their phony religion/cult in a country where it's liable to get them (any any poor sap they actually converted) killed.

They don't deserve to be celebrated any more than the winner of a game of russian roulette or someone who's just succesfully frolicked his way through heavy traffic.

2001-11-15 02:46:16 AM
EnemyFrank:

What a stupid thing for you to say.
People don't get imprisoned and executed for extolling their faith in any decent regime.

I don't understand how you could say what you said.
It makes no sense.

~ Pinky ~

2001-11-15 02:53:45 AM
ehr, aren't hundreds of people imprisoned in the US now just for being arab/muslim?

Oh wait, they're not imprisoned, they're held indefinitely as witnesses without any right to legal aid or counsel, big difference.

You're right though, they haven't been executed...

2001-11-15 02:57:56 AM
Stinky,

Did I say the Taliban was a "decent regime"?

If you don't think preaching christianity is/was enough to get you killed in Afghanistan under the taliban rule, then you've been living under a rock. They were facing the death penalty!!! Why do you think they've been held for the last 3 months?

2001-11-15 03:06:11 AM
Thefallen,

If anyone who was detained after Sept. 11th is still being held, you can bet it's for a good reason. I'm sure they've weeded out most of the innocents by now.

It's too bad anyone innocent had to be held like that, but in a time like this I'd rather be safe than sorry. If detaining all of those people prevented even one more hi-jacking or other terrorist act then it was worth it. Sad but true.

2001-11-15 03:11:51 AM
EnemyFrank, we can only hope so, but the problem to me is that there is no insight whatsoever, and you'd think that if there was a reason for them being held they'd get arrested as collaborators or supporters of the acts?

We only have the govmts word on that they know something, the reason "natioal security" carries a lot of weight now.

As a european it's scary when a supposedly civilized country has legal departments wanting to use torture and gets extensive rights to spy and gather information, imprisoning people indefinitely without any legal aid whatsoever, allowing secret military trials where there's no chance of appeal. To me that's a lot scarier than any terrorism could ever be.

2001-11-15 03:16:56 AM
Well the only other option was to just let them all go about their business and wait for another attack... Can you think of any alternatives? You might feel differently if this happened in your country. Happily for you, I don't ever recall hearing about much terrorism being directed at Sweden.

2001-11-15 03:23:44 AM
Very true, we've never really had terrorism here.

And letting them all go is not what I meant, but arresting them and thus at least giving them a chance to get legal aid and councel isn't too much to ask is it? Holding people as witnesses is only a legal twist to make sure that you can hold them as long as you'd like without presenting much if any evidence since there is a possiblity they might know something relating to the attacks.

I doubt I'd trust my own goverment with that, and you gotta wonder how long they'll be held as witnesses, 6 months? a year? 5? 10? There's no law that prevents them from being held the rest of their lives if there's an ongoing investigation, and I doubt terrorism will be eradicated in our lifetime.

2001-11-15 03:29:16 AM
Believe me, there are enough civil rights groups in the US to ensure they'll be treated fairly. This is just a rough patch. Anyone who thinks the American people will accept this as long-term government conduct doesn't know us very well. Again, it's a lamentable situation, but I see no immediate alternative.

2001-11-15 03:36:51 AM
Actually, I tend to think a lot of people would accept it even in the long term, anything else could be considered un-patriotic and too soft by those that wish to see them stay.

Anyway, I hope that the recent laws and directives passed aren't a permanent thing, but I'm not sure I really believe it. So good luck getting your rights back when this is over in a a few years :-)

I said it before when it happened and this whole war thing doesn't change my mind. They were stupid and wrong for going their and preaching their christian shiat to people that don't want it.

They should have had their heads cut off.

2001-11-15 08:03:03 AM
I have to agree with Fb..
What would be the stupidist thing a person could do?
Go into a religiously hostile land, as a guest, and preach your faith to people who are, by penalty of DEATH, forbidden to hear it and exposing yourself to that same penalty... WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER!
These people were complete morons and though I am pleased they were released, I think they should get a good old fashioned ass-whooping for being farking morons.

2001-11-15 08:05:34 AM
ps... You now they will all be saying "Our prayers were answered" when maybe, just maybe, they were captured because some god-entity wanted to make a point of how stupid they were being and that this was their punishment.
Effectively, maybe Allahs was answering the prayers of the Muslims who are tired of being told they are heathens by stupid fundy christians.
Just a thought.

The Catholic Church is nothing but a giant organized vulture employing mind control and psychological abuse (now that it can no longer use physical abuse) to drain it's members and spread like a cancer.

peckers.

Most of the Christian faiths with large churches are bad, but not as bad as the Catholic Church.

sick sick bastards all over this country with their twisted view of what is good.

Whatever parts of any organized religion you exert to look at the bottom line in almost every major religion is this: Treat others how you want to me treated and respect others right to be different. Anyone who twists those overall messages is and idiot. But t the same time don't judge all of a religion on a small group of its followers (or followers of a ratical sect of that religion). I'm a Lutheran and I don't believe 'God hates fags'. One of my best friends is a muslim and I know he hasn't tried to kill me for being an infidel. My church is the largest in my town and twice a year my congregation votes on what to use the general offerings over the last half year for; its completely decided by votes which you can give towards about 30 options. My point is don't say that all people of one religion are all the same, or that all organized religion is a giant money scam. As we've seen there are fringe nutcases in every religion and political group.

All Christians, Mulsims, Hindus, Pagans aren't bad, just FUNDIES.

It's not about religon any more. Its about killing more of them than they kill of us. Its about breaking things and taking land away from the enemy. Its war...

I was responding mainly to NaTaX-

"Most of the Christian faiths with large churches are bad, but not as bad as the Catholic Church."

Others have said it too. I by no means am saying all churches are good, just that you have to look at the individual shouting not the basis of the group he belongs too. That should go for political groups as well.

"But that's just the opinion of a crypto-facist media/corporate/government controlled drone/patriot robot. Because if I don't agree with your ideals I'm EVIL."
