Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

Note: Offensively, career-average Mark Reynolds is a perfectly useful DH despite being a hilarious whiffmaster.

Defensively, he's a perfectly useful DH.

someone should throw it behind him to see if he'll swing.

I instinctively hold my breath whenever a ball is hit in his direction with RISP.

At least he goes down swinging most of the time.

Of course he goes down as much as a Tijuana whore during fleet week...but at least he's swinging.

There's always a breeze going through Camden Yards when Mark Reynolds is at the plate.

Reynolds - Dbacks joke

A couple of years ago while in the middle of 200 strike out season. Reynolds had an interview that was a little TMI for the local 5 o'clock news.

WTF? How the hell does this guy have a job? And what's the deal with the crowd? Over half the seats were empty in most of the clips. The rest of the seats were filled with old fat people like I see at WalMart.

Until this year, the Orioles. Sucked. Badly. Last year they were 28 games out of first place and 12 games under .500. Year before that, 30 games out of first and 15 games under .500. Winners fill the seats. Losers, not so much. It's a damn miracle they're in the race this year.

Didn't Babe Ruth strike out a lot? I'm not a baseball fan but I do remember hearing something about it was either over the fence or a strikeout.

Babe played 22 years, didn't get a lot of at bats to begin with. he has a career total of 1330 strike outs. reynolds is in his 6th year and has a total of 1014.

he homered on 6.72% of his plate appearances.
after subtracting his 714 homers from his totals, he still got on base on 40.1% of his non-homer plate appearances.
even without his homers (which were a quarter of all his hits) that's a better career on base percentage than tony gwynn or joe dimmagio.

ruth either hit it over the fence, or else he got on base.

He is not bad playing first, but boy, he really sucks as a third baseman.

Tactically speaking, he waits for a pitch that he can hit, and swings ridiculously hard. It's a valid approach as long as you're very picky about the pitch. However, you strike out a lot because you take a lot of strikes, and you're more likely to miss when you swing for the fences.

For his career, he gets on base 33.4% of the time (he walks a lot), in a league where the average batter gets on base 31.8% of the time. He also hits with very good power, averaging 29 doubles and 35 HR per 162 games.

A high percentage of his outs are by strikeout, but you get get away with that as long as you don't make that many outs overall.

He's an atrocious defender, which limits his overall value as a player, but as a hitter he'll have a job until his skills decline.

OK thanks. Moral of the story: Swing for the fences and you'll still get somewhere
