Mid_mo_mad_man: I went to school in rural Missouri. Never had a bad lunch at school. The German grannies cooking there was wonderful. From scratch cooking.

Did the German lunch ladies also teach the English classes?

DammitIForgotMyLogin: Bathia_Mapes: Her blog was one of the very few I read. I hope that all this negative publicity against the city council will convince them to change their mind.

And 2 minutes ago I heard the head of the council on BBC Radio saying that he's reversed the decision.

That's good to hear. In the states, I would assume that the Supreme Court would rule that, not only are school lunches individuals, but also that they have "a reasonable expectation of privacy" while in the lunchroom and may not be photographed.

Once they reappear on the playground, that expectation of privacy no longer holds.

/Had awful school lunches....

I am 33 and that looks way better than the lunches I have now. I miss my square pizza.

"The pupils use a touch screen to select their lunch option and the data is downloaded in the kitchen so they know how many portions of each meal are required. As they place their order, the pupils are given a coloured band which relates to their meal choice that day. They wear it during the morning, and at lunchtime they hand it to the catering assistant, who will give them the corresponding meal"

that s**t's f**ked up right there. f***.

candiru.fish: I desperately need someone explain vitamin R malk to me.

What do you need to know? It's malk. It's got vitamin R. What more do you need? You want your local school wasting your tax money on needlessly expensive milk? Malk is much cheaper. And it's got vitamin R, which milk lacks.

I still remember the full menu from the po-dunk country elementary school I went to:

Mon: Square pizza, corn, some type of dessert (usually applesauce I think)

Tue: Mexican haystack (ground beef w/Fritos, lettuce and tomato)

Wed: "Manager's Choice" (entree determined by school staff, usually consisting of all or mostly veggies)

Thursday: Chili and a PB&J (BAM! Paydirt!)

Friday: Hamburger and French Fries

Also, starting around 4th grade ice cream became optional for .50 extra - I usually opted for the Superstar Bar (red, white & blue, not choco & 'nanner)

Yep, so when I wasn't bringing my own lunch in my Hulk Hogan lunchbox, this is what I ate for lunch every single weekday from 1985 until 1990. I think when I get off of work, I am gonna make a Totino's, cut a large square section out of it, boil some canned corn and get a carton of chocolate milk.

When I was in high school (Catholic HS, so no meat on Friday) We boycotted the cafeteria because we were tired of cheese enchiladas. That had trays and trays of enchiladas leftover. They served them on Monday.

Strictly speaking, there wasn't since she was taken out of the class. Bullet dodged on that one.
