This is totally new.

I can't believe no one has done this before.

Is there a juice box included?

Her blog was one of the very few I read. I hope that all this negative publicity against the city council will convince them to change their mind.

This kid is 9 years old..and has a great blog. Yeah, her dad set it up but she writes it and does it very well.just talking like a kid would about lunches. People from the world send her pics of their lunches. Now, the local powers are upset it's 'bad press' for them. And like some one else said in another thread---it's going to be a very bad day for those when it hits the wires..which it has done.

If I wanted to read what a 9 year old thinks I'd spend time reading the comments on YouTube.

I went to school in rural Missouri. Never had a bad lunch at school. The German grannies cooking there was wonderful. From scratch cooking.

Thanks for the link to the council. I tried to lodge an online complaint but their web services seem to be down at the moment.

That is my memory as well. Growing up in Louisiana, we would hire the lunch room ladies to make gumbo for fundraisers and it would always sell out.
Of course I sound fat. Their yeast rolls are still my mental standard for perfection.

Reminds me of the stories we sometimes see here where students film teachers yelling expletives at students or getting violent with students and the punishment is.....the student is suspended/expelled for using their phone in class while the teacher gets a slap on the wrist, if any punishment.

Same thing when people film police doing bad things and the people filming are arrested. People in power don't like being exposed and will punish you for exposing them.

The ladies made homemade pies cakes and the best dinner rolls. FFA fundraisers was them cooking there famous rolls and very good veggie beef soup. Roasted chicken to fried chicken nothing they fixed was bad.

Complained to the council and it went through, and then they conveniently start an online survey about your submission. I made the most of all space to tell them what a bunch of idiots and dicks they were

felt pretty good

+1 for a Simpsons Reference in a subtle photoshop.

Also, i miss Square Pizza too. Cafeteria at college used to do "Elementary Lunchroom" once a month. Easily the best day of the month.

/Dino tenders and square pizza, yaaay.

Bread covered with pizza sauce, cheese, and pepperoni? What's gross about that?

But I guess a lot of people have an innate need to hate any and all institutional food.

I grew up in rural Oklahoma and I always looked forward to lunch at school. It was always a high point of the day, actually. Yeasty rolls, too.

Ahaha, this. I remember going to high school in Texas and getting pizza slices. Greasiest pieces of crap ever. Then I had to move to Arizona and got pizza squares over there in high school. They were heaven in a paper dish.

It's funny to look at those pics. I remember being a kid and thinking that was a reasonable lunch (I've got pizza, pretzels AND corn! Who needs a green vegetable or fruit?). Now I'm an adult and feel slightly horrified.

\remember my mom disapproving of me buying french fries instead of the school lunch.
\\Looking back, it was probably equally nutritious

2012-06-15 08:42:03 AM
Our school lunches were terrible, so I would cash out the check my mom gave me for lunch at the beginning of the week and buy junk food sold by the teachers instead. Why yes, I went to a poor, rural Tennessee school that received very little money because property taxes were extremely low and there's no state income tax.

Nicely done.

You need to use english muffins. And make your own sauce from totmato paste and seasonings. Then they are awesome.

i never got a "healthy" lunch from the food served in high school.
Elementary school is a different story. the choices were more limited, but the overall food quality was better.

I assume that no one else is allowed a camera then, right school council?

Welcome to the real world, kid. People in power are almost invariably corrupt and incompetent, and it's easier to kill the messenger than it is to address the problem. Sorry you had to learn this lesson at 9.

2012-06-15 08:56:14 AM
I'm mostly shocked that this is in England. I was on a CE lecture a few months back where it was claimed (with pictures from all over the world) that the US was the only place with poor school lunches. The guy made it sound like it was the proximate cause of childhood obesity and we needed lunches in school more like Europe. Sounds like we're already there.

That's good to hear. In the states, I would assume that the Supreme Court would rule that, not only are school lunches individuals, but also that they have "a reasonable expectation of privacy" while in the lunchroom and may not be photographed.

Once they reappear on the playground, that expectation of privacy no longer holds.

/Had awful school lunches....

That's cute how you think more money would have meant better lunches and not better office furniture for the newly-hired $110,000/yr Assistant Superintendent for Snowflake-Nurturing at the district offices downtown.

/paying a $4800 property tax bill plus nice fat state income taxes and am not getting a kick out of this

UPDATE

The council has reversed itself and lifted the ban, according to BBC4 radio.
I cannot confirm as I have not heard the article yet (searching online for BBC news feed now)

So, she's back live blogging.

We snuck out back by the dumpsters to smoke and were not shocked by reading the boxes our tasty school lunch supplies where shipped in.
The lunches all tasted about what you'd expect "Sausage Pizza with Textured Vegetable Protein" to taste like.
Kinda like anything microwaveable from the Circle K.

That's good. The council might want to update their "official statement" (pops), dated today. It reads exactly as you would expect.
