An outside vendor developed the site and it has been corrected.

Translation: "We care so much about the Latino vote, we outsourced the whole thing and had nobody doing quality control before paying for it and putting our brand name on it."

GAT_00: . The entirety of the Americas was populated at nearly the same time

Actually it wasn't. Though what a lot of us were taught in grade school has been inverted. Turns out the Inuit instead of being the first arrivals are the most recent. As in just barely made it here before the land bridge went away. Other native Americans come from before they got here. Indeed based on genetic studies those in South America got here first. As for sea travel, that explains Pacific Islanders from Samoans to Hawaiians to the Maori of New Zeland etc. They're all closely related and only way they could have gotten where they got is with boats. Turns out Thor Heyerdahl was right all along. Just took geneticists to convince the anthropologists he was right. And that they wasted 40 plus years.

coeyagi: AiryAnne: So if you say you can't tell the difference between races, you're a racist. But if you say you can see difference between races, you're racist?

I think the real racist is US News: "HAHA GOP CANT TELLS THAT SLOPEY EYED YELLOW CHIRENNS ARENT TEH MEZKINS!! ALL MEZKINS ARE TEH BROWNS WITH ROUND EYEZ!!"

Fact: There are a lot of Latinos with Asian ancestry.

I think the main story here is that the RNC is lazy. A third party vendor put together a site with some stock photos tagged as ASIAN and no one noticed? Lazy shiats.

I think the main story here is that you're responding to a race-baiting post written by a person whose handle is "Aryan".

Bhasayate: In all fairness, my wife is Filipino. Some people think she's black, sometimes they think she's Mexican. And she's relatively light skinned. It can happen!

Does she often carry a sign that says "Filipino" when she's mistaken for black or Mexican? This picture did essentially that.

As much as Republicans are constantly going on and on about the miracles of the private sector, I find it amusing that every time they fark up It is the fault of a "vendor".

RNC spokeswoman Kirsten Kukowski says: "An outside vendor developed the site and it has been corrected."

Non-story. Over-zealous vendor.

So Romney is outsourcing parts of his campaign? This bodes well if he becomes president.

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: borg: I know Asians who get mistaken for Mexican/Indian & visa versa all the time. The Spaniards put their dick in everything.

Despite the fact I'm Guatemalan, in elementary school new kids would often ask if I was Asian, given that I wore glasses, was intelligent, and even had Asian-type eyes and skin color.

It's a common thing, but that doesn't make this action by the Republicans less of a gaffe.

I'm Colombian. One of my Filipino co-workers mistook me for Filipino when he first met me. My Korean buddy and I look quite a bit alike. It's a common mistake for an individual to make.

But for a presidential campaign with more money than God? Huge, epic fail.

borg: I'm not defending anyone I'm a 46 year old slacker in San Francisco I hear & see that same mistake being made by liberals all the time it's fairly common in an area with a lot of Asians and hispanics. I've even seen people of those races make that mistake

Seeing an asian guy on the street and mistaking him for hispanic is one thing. One stupid thing.
Setting us a web page targeting hispanics and using a picture with the tags 'asian', 'thailand', and 'japanese' is another. It'd be the asian guy on the street wearing a "Hi my name is .... I'm chinese motherfarker" sticker on his shirt and you still calling him a mexican.

RNC: Really Not Conscious

For my part, it touches my heart to see the way the RNC has been inspired by God in this way. It seems as if the person responsible for crafting these ads was truly in tunes with the promptings of the spirit. The Asian origins of the people of central America have been well documented for nearly two hundred years. Is it POSSIBLE that the descendants of Lehi's family (to say nothing of the brother of Jared's people) were contemporaries of other Asians who arrived by way of the Bering Straight as well, but it would be a historical travesty to make this into political mudslinging and overlook the plain and simple truth of the Lamanite origins of Central and South American people. I know with every fiber of my being that this has been revealed to us in these latter days.

I would like to bear my testimony that I know the RNC is true, and the only true political organization on the face of the earth today. By abiding by its principles, we can become closer to our Heavenly Father and share in family life through the eternities. It is my hope that you will all come to know this, by the power of the Holy Ghost. I say these things to you in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Amen.

The hand of the Lord at work

GAT_00: They didn't island hop.

They island hopped big time. Though they spent centuries not going much of anywhere. They first ended up in Tonga, Samoa and Fiji, somewhere in the ballpark of 3,000 years ago. They didn't get to Hawaii and New Zealand until about 900 years ago. By which point they already got to Easter Island ana Rapa Nui. Polynesians were people who could sail not just hundreds but thousands of miles no problem. What's interesting is that New Zealanders and Hawaiians are more closely related than either is with Fijians, as both came from a population in the Society Islands. The impressive thing is they had links to South America that may well predate their permanent settlements in Rapa Nui. Sweet potatoes are native to South America yet they were found in the Cook Islands when the first Europeans arrived there. And were found on other Polynesian islands as well. This means that when Polynesians sailed over the horizon, they weren't sailing away to go wherever and be gone for good, they had regular routes they sailed so stuff could go back and forth. And indeed the sweet potato is not the only example of something the Polynesians spread around.
