They are doing really well. The girl kitty accepts him totally...he actually has somehow gotten her to leave my bedroom and move around. Cinco likes to chase Louie, who is the biggest cat in the house. He is a big woose. He chases Hermie too. Robin screams at him but there has been no chasing there. The dogs do really well with him.

Over all, they are one happy family. And I am the zookeeper.

Broktun: sherpa18: The good thing is hyperthyroidism is pretty easily treated with methimazole. Cost for the tablets at a pharmacy is about $20.00 per month, depending on the dose. Talk to your vet about methimazole topical gel, available from compounding pharmacies. It is not that much more expensive (we sell the 5mg/day dose for $25) and it is much easier to rub gel in a cat's ear, than try to give them a tablet. EIP if you have any questions about the gel.

Thanks for the info, I knew about the trans-dermal gel, it was going to be my first alternative if I had problems with the pills (and I actually have a pharmacy by me that will compound it). I refuse to go to the diet only option, as I simply can not bring myself to deprive the white boy of his beloved people food chicken wings at his age.

Luckily for us both, we have come to a compromise - I will not resort to the hated pill-popper as long as he eats his pills in his food. (Dragon has always loved licking the can clean while I mush up his food, so I melt his pills with a touch of hot water and put it in the can before I give it him, so I know he is getting the full dosage when the can is bone dry).

7th Son of a 7th Son Very nice verse! Your cats have truely engraved themselves on your heart. While their losses are painful, I believe loving our aminals makes our hearts more tender, and compassionate. We are far better people for it. As for your rude friend. Feel sorry for him. He has never known the unconditional love of an animal. And it shows.

Jackal_N: sherpa18: On scripts, I've found that Sam's pharmacy has the best $ if you have one of those around -- the vet is usually much more expensive -- the Sam's membership gouge is a pain, but the business membership (tell them you freelance or have a website) paid for itself when I filled one of my own scripts. Walmart is cheaper than the vet too, the economy has been bad long enough that pharmacies are happy to give you prices and info if you call them.

Agreed - most pharmacies now have generic "membership" plans that can greatly reduce costs - I enrolled Dragon and the difference in price between the Vet ($64) and Walgreens (was $12.99, now just went up to $20) is significant. In fact, MY RX meds now cost me less with the same plan than they did with my health coverage. Although since I enrolled him first, I am now just a family member on his account, it never fails to amuse me when I have to give my name as "Dragon Cat "

Just out of idle curiosity, does anyone know why are pet meds are taxable while human ones are not? (at least this is true in NJ)

If NJ is like PA pet meds are probably not considered a necessity, Like in PA there is sales tax on bathing suits because they are not considered a necessity but try to go to the beach without one,

I use some stuff called "Boundary, indoor/outdoor cat repellent pump spray" from Petsmart. It keeps my cats from eating my indoor plants in the winter. It stinks almost as much as cat pee though, might want to sniff it before you buy. Probably would help to clean off his pee-mail and use an enzyme solution, Staples Office Supply has some that works as well as the more expensive stuff from Petsmart.

Thanks!!!

It's called "spraying", I believe.

Well, your house has been annexed into this guy's empire, for one thing.

First question is "are all your female cats (even if indoor) spayed?"
If not, that would explain the 'jerk' leaving his calling card at/on your door.

This is assuming, of course, that it is a Tomcat doing the marking. Only once in my life have I seen a female "spray" like that.

All my males and females spayed and neutered.

Totally off topic but I'll ask anyway. A while ago someone posted a picture of a person sitting in a chair or a rocking chair totally covered in knitting. (At least I think it was here on Caturday)

Anyone have that picture? I was trying to find it for my Mom who's a big knitter.
