(Chicago Trib)   Couple arrested after authorities found their two children bound hand and foot and blindfolded inside their pickup truck in a Wal-Mart parking lot. To be fair, they did spare the customers the trauma of hearing annoying children   (chicagotribune.com) divider line 65

You can't roll down the trunk.

(Yes, I know TFH says "truck")

Parents of the year!

Gets Tasered for trying to enter his own vehicle?
Xerox, Kleenex and BandAid didn't know Taser was a proper noun.

Has anyone noticed that the children weren't inside the vehicle?

Read much?

TFH is a clusterfark. It was an SUV, not a pickup truck...and the kids were bound outside the SUV.

2012-06-14 04:30:19 PM
Police did not try to force their way into the SUV, but rather called juvenile officers who helped talk the children into coming out on their own about an hour later, McKinley said.

How young do you have to be to be considered a juvenile officer?

Don't worry, all will be right when the judge decides the family should be kept together.

I live less than two miles from the Wal-Mart. No idea how they got to the Wal-Mart since they were almost certainly driving on the interstate and had to hop off the turnpike to get there.

if this were FL, they'd get away with it - you can do anything to your kids in FL and not get in trouble :)

Deborah Gomez also sued the elementary school district in the town for an incident involving one of her daughters and other students on Sept. 17, 2009.

I would like to know the details on this.

So it was a "lost sale " then.

Revek: Let the parent who hasn't considered it cast the first stone.

I've considered doing a lot of things, like shaving my head because sometimes my hair gets so knotted it drives me farking crazy, or punching the annoying harpy at the desk next to mine in the face because she thinks it's a good idea to bathe in perfume that makes her smell like a French whore.

However I've never done those things, and I never will, because I can control my impulses, whether they be frivolous or otherwise. The ability to do that is what separates us from the animals, and the parents in this article are very much on the "animals" side of the ledger.

2012-06-14 04:38:59 PM
I haven't gotten all the details filled in yet, but someone mentioned a Chicago Trib article.

1. Parents moving out west (running from debt?)
2. Something happens to vehicle, maybe... sparse detail
3. Park it at side of WalMart
3a. who knows at what point the youngest two of the five children are bound and blindfolded, but maybe some time here?
4. Wife goes in shopping
5. Husband goes wandering (for help with vehicle?)
6. After 911 call, police arrive and note the vehicle and child situation: two youngest outside the vehicle in restraints, three oldest (up to 15 years old) inside vehicle with stuff piled on windows
7. Police free youngest children, get other officers to come and talk the other children out of the vehicle
8. Dad arrested after a taserin' (trying to get in vehicle... drive off? who knows)
9. Mom arrested in WalMart

And that's how I spent my summer vacation

So is the situation. What the hell? Though I wonder if the teens in the SUV had anything to do with the kids outside the SUV being bound.

RibbyK: Gets Tasered for trying to enter his own vehicle?

FTFA:

Their father, Adolfo Gomez, 52, was detained by officers when he returned to the Suburban and was Tasered when he tried to break free and enter the SUV

2012-06-14 04:42:15 PM
To be fair, there were three teenagers in the vehicle. This makes me wonder -- siblings?

Arkanaut: RibbyK:

Good to know. In the video, the police spokesperson said Gomez was "tased" (assumed spelling), so it's also a verb back-formed from the noun/acronym TASER.

If you don't think Taser is a proper noun, there's a few cops that'll be glad to take you downtown and make sure you know Taser is a proper noun.

They obviously didn't know that the Wal-Mart they went to doesn't have an auto section AFAIK. They really failed big time.

ace in your face: Did they tie up the kids or did the teenagers? Kinda sounds like the teens may be up to no good

From the article:

Deborah, was placed on supervision in October 1998 after she plead guilty to misdemeanor endangering the life of a child. She admitted leaving two young sons, then ages 2 and 3, home alone for 8 hours on March 13, 1998 when the family lived at a Naperville apartment. Prosecutors hauled her back into court in 2001 after they said she failed to comply with counseling and parenting classes. She later complied.

I'm willing to bet that the teenagers had nothing to do with tying up the younger kids.

I have to admit that when I was a teen there were many times I wanted to bind and gag my sibling. Seriously, what kid doesn't want to just strangle the hell out of their brother or sister at some point?

Bschott007: Seriously, what kid doesn't want to just strangle the hell out of their brother or sister at some point?

Yes, but what stopped you? Fear of getting caught? Fear of repercussions? Some gut feeling that it's a bad thing to do? Did you ACTUALLY strangle your siblings?

Being a good person is not absence of evil urges; a healthy person has powerful restraint mechanisms that make you think, "Mmmmmaybe this isn't a good idea." Normal people don't fark each other up and it's NOT because they don't want to.

Jesus would say that thinking about strangling your sibling is a sin regardless of whether your conscience told you it was a bad idea or not.

It's called a "love choke" (or "love-choke", if you're a hyphenator) and it's perfectly reasonable behavior.

I worked at both. While there was a bit of time and the start of a recession in the meantime, I can unequivocally say the north one is worse. Even if it is on the "nicer"end of town.

I thought that was the proper way to transport children in Kansas.
