I dunno man, I've heard that tone of voice out of a woman before. It never ended well for me.

With a guy, the louder he gets the more dangerous he gets. Not so with women. A woman who speaks perfectly calm is far more dangerous than the most cracked-out crazy girl. Crazy girl will try and hit you, or sic her boyfriend on you. Quiet woman will DESTROY you.

They made some cracks about "letting" women do things, and she casually walked off set, laughing, telling the other cohost to read the headlines, since he's a man.

It was pretty tame, and I'd caution anyone about trying to make too much hay out of it.

This is a danger zone for me. That's when I know I'm in the dog house. It starts like this:

1. Eyes open wider with fake eyecontact actually landing somewhere around my eyebrows.
2. Fake smile, all wide and toothy, but without any of the "smiling eyes" component of genuine happiness.
3. A very firm insistence that I am absolutely, 100% right.
4. Sometimes followed by turning her back on me, going about some little chore, and humming.

Any point there, I know that yes, I am right, oh definitely, of course... and I will very much regret being right. I will get the world I want, in one of those Hellish, Luciferian "exact words" contracts.

If it progresses to them humming a tune, I'm beyond farked.

The Moon Cannot Be Stolen

Ryokan, a Zen master, lived the simplest kind of life in a little hut at the foot of a mountain. One evening a thief visited the hut only to discover there was nothing to steal.

Ryokan returned and caught him. "You have come a long way to visit me," he told the prowler, "and you should not return empty-handed. Please take my clothes as a gift."

The thief was bewildered. He took the clothes and slunk away.

Ryoken sat naked, watching the moon. "Poor fellow," he mused, "I wish I could have given him this beautiful moon."

I hear guys defend these kinds of remarks saying "hey! Its just how guys talk!" and you know what? Thats not true and Im tired of this kind of very specific rudeness being given a pass. In my Grandmothers day it was called "boorishness" and was considered an embarrassing way to behave.

She was, actually. And Kilmeade was pretty mad, too. You expect a meltdown on live TV from professional broadcasters, as unprofessional as their actual broadcasts might be?

Kilmeade isn't replying that she's leaving an "all-male crew" by walking off; that's last-wordism right there, a way of saying "biatch you want strong women but walking off is doing the opposite lol ur dumb." She's not saying things like "...in all your glory" in jest. You can hear him repeat the same words back, sarcastically, through a forced smile.

Anybody that thinks that wasn't tense and uncomfortable as fark has to have Autism or something; their vocal intonation, their body language, the back-and-forth, the way Kilmeade tries repeatedly to get the last word and defuse anything Carlson says.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, so let me chime in with presumed 50 other people who agreed with you.

The first time men learn the lesson you posted is like the first time it occurs to them that leaning with their palm on a hot stove burner is a Bad Idea. It kinda sticks with you for life and is NOT open to interpretation.

Guys are also capable of this Count of Monte Cristo-type quiet plotting, but as a general rule we just explode right there and the whole thing is over in five minutes or when someone's nose is broken. We then return to telling dick and fart jokes to each other. For all our achievements we're a pretty predictable and boring study.

But long ago I was conditioned to feel fear and flight whenever this conversation occurred:

"You seem a little tense, what's wrong?"

"Nothing."

*backs away slowly and does housework in every room but the one she's stewing in*

Note the deftness of not opening your fool mouth and making it worse. At this point, your only solution is to be on guard until she actually attacks. It could be months. Especially if the argument is over something inconsequential you'll have forgotten about five months later when she unleashes the Kraken at a cocktail party.

Strange game. The only strategy is not to play.

No, his argument is not that we can't possibly learn to be more articulate and respectful even if it would make Fark a better place. Just that we just plain don't feel like it because not doing so can be (and almost always is) funny.

See also this site's penis jokes, that pic of Hulk Hogan destroying the Twin Towers, our ability to turn any thread into an Airplane thread, being grammar nazis, and the occasional Zen koan non-sequitur.

But that's the problem. There is no ha ha for us when a guy goes on and on with his "girls are icky" drivel. Boorish sexist comments aren't really funny. We arent usually offended or upset by them. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if her time at The View wasn't an eye-opener, either from the atmosphere around the studio(Walters owns the show, right?) or just an exchange of ideas. Say what you will about Babwa, she's still a veteran of a boy's club business and has seen a lot of history.

Maybe going back to F&F felt a little like going from a union shop to a sweatshop. I'm sure some Farkettes have had experiences like this.

Kilmeade's joke wasn't even all that offensive by itself. Coming from Phil Donahue it might be funny because his feminist credentials aren't really in question. Apparently Gretchen didn't think Brian was enlightened enough to be joking about the crap she still has to deal with every day.

I hope people aren't actually learning what to think from a place like this.

Yeah, I'm not picking on you. I'm just making some pretty general observations. My theory is that in a way people use this as a sounding board for ideas they may not actually want to voice with their name attached for the fear of alienating people they know and care about with perhaps outrageous opinions. Rather like how some gays and lesbians will come out first to people they don't know very well to test the waters of how their news will be accepted before telling people they really care about. So, if someone gets the sense of general agreement from their anonymous peers on here, perhaps it will bolster confidence in an opinion to carry with them into meatspace.

And yeah, yeah, I know. Welcome to Fark.

If I type it here, I'll usually say it in public. People don't like? Oh, well. Fark them. I'm actually not so concerned about the things people are saying. What exactly do they do? Gretchen Carlson finally snaps, storms off the set of Fox and Friends after Kilmeade's sexist joke #273.

That number's ridiculously low. Maybe #273 for the day.

As excited as we all seem to be, take a deep breath. She seemed annoyed, but I wouldn't really call that "Storming off set." She'll be back on air tomorrow, maybe they'll make some lighthearted news banter between each other pretending like the whole thing was on purpose. 'You going to behave today? Ha ha, yeah." And that's that.

This was not some great moment where the lady figurehead of fox news got tired of the sexist bullshiat and became a feminist. They all drink the cool-aid there, and i'm sure she gets paid well. No one is going to turn this into the political statement it should be.

What? Who thinks that kind of shiat, let alone says it out loud?

Kilmeade is the guy who once opined that Swedes have a lower divorce rate than Americans because they're more racially pure. He wasn't joking that time.

Ned Stark: Which one is Steve doocy?

The one with the very punchable face.

As opposed to Kilmeade who just has a punchable face.

Ed Finnerty: Hey Fox, your War on Women is showing.

I refudiate your claim. I've been told by very well-respected newsmen, on both AM radio and the television, one of whom had a statue dedicated by a state government to commemorate him for all that he's done for humanity, that the war on women is coming from the left. Unless, of course, you are also ready to make the absurd claim that these people are lying to me and that they are cheerleaders in this "GOP war on women?"

Codenamechaz: Angry Drunk Bureaucrat: What a horribly written "article". Can someone tell me what exactly happened to cause her to leave?

According to TP

Thursday morning, Steve Doocy interviewed members of the U.S. Navy Band about the band's recent inclusion of women. Reacting to the segment, Brian Kilmeade remarked, "Women are everywhere. We're letting them play golf and tennis now. It's out of control." Visibly upset, Gretchen Carlson, the only female host, walked off of the set. "You read the headlines. Since men are so great. Take them [women] away," she said. Kilmeade responded, "All right. Finally." Then, as she walked further off of the set, Kilmeade jeered, "Leaving an all male crew" and added "she needed a shower."

She clearly realized she was about to menstruate all over the couch. Therefore she decided to retire to refresh her daintyness.
