As the youngest election official by about 30 years to work at my polling place, let me tell you what happens when you fill out a provisional ballot:

First, you go see the elderly lady at the table and give her your address and name. She licks her finger, turns a few pages...can't find you. She puts on her other glasses..still can't find you.

She asks you sternly if you filled out the city census/registered to vote/recently moved. You sheepishly reply that you have failed in some way to keep your status active.

She calls Gladys over, because Gladys is in charge of Young People Like You (you try to point out that you're 47, but to know avail. This woman thought McCain was sprightly). Gladys asks to see your license/identification/utility bill. Once provided with proof of your identification, Gladys makes you complete a form stating that you are a resident of ward X, you have not and will not vote in any other ward under penalty of felony charges, fines etc etc.

You are given a provisional ballot, which is counted AFTER all the other ballots. While this ballot IS STILL COUNTED, in many cases the election results have been published BEFORE the ballot is counted, because the difference between the winner and loser is larger than the number of provisional votes.

Gladys, and the other ladies, tut about you for a minute, and go back to trying to fix up their granddaughters with the very very bored cop.

BSABSVR: rudemix: It's best to govern by anectdotal episodes. A well rounded group of advisors is ok I suppose but nothing beats the evidence and facts one can provide with sentences that begin 'Well, one time I was....'

I liked yesterday's argument that the lack of convictions for voter fraud is evidence of how easy and pervasive it is.

Accepting that logic, maybe we should revisit his Medicare fraud. He got off easy. Ergo, he must have done much worse than was discovered.

Vodka Zombie: I thought he was a felon.

He didn't commit any felonies until he became Governor. Now shut up poor person and pee in the cup that my company sells to the state.

ComicBookGuy: Why would Floridians elect such an obvious and complete sociopath?

Similar to how Walker beat the recall. Lots of money and a lackluster opposition candidate.
