(Townhall)   It's certainly nice for the rest of us that oil prices are coming down. But it really screws up Obama and Secretary Chu's plan to keep energy prices so high. Maybe now they'll apologize for crucifying oil companies. But I doubt it   (finance.townhall.com) divider line 113

Lower energy prices. This is bad news... for Obama['s socialist, Green Peace terrorism, Saul Alinskyist administration].

Diogenes: I would like some evidence of how this administration has "crucified" the oil companies. Specifics only, please. Not the typical vague crap I get when I ask these questions.

I've been assured by right wing talk radio listeners that Obama has all but outlawed and destroyed oil production in the US. Despite the fact that it's at a 8-12 years high he's killed it. FOREVER.

SilentStrider: Oil companies have been crucufied?
When did this happen?

That's my question. Major petroleum producers have been blowing through exorbitant amounts of capital securing domestic oil/gas leases here within the last year and a half. Hell, just look at the sheer number of acres Chesapeake has secured in Oklahoma/Texas/Kansas within the last year, then try to tell us with a straight face that oil companies are being crucified by the current administration.

Serious question: Is everyone who writes and posts at Townhall mentally ill? I'm not trying to be funny. Much of it reads like a manifesto from a borderline schizophrenic. Example:

There has been a concerted campaign to marginalize & demonize the principles & doctrines traditionally followed in civil American society. There's been the corresponding push to assert perverse & effete values of the Left & the totalitarian statists as normative & desirable. The pop media goes right along. Those who defend the former are attacked scurrilously, marginalized, boycotted, given the Alinsky treatment, even assaulted. Those asserting the latter views are praised, rewarded, treated like they rep the mainstream.
Personal freedom (except freedom to kill babies & the elderly), free enterprise, private property, monogamous heterosexuality, traditional religious faith, limited government...even freedom of speech now are passe.

The actual "article" wasn't much better. Lots of fragmented thoughts and just plain oddness. Sorry if this is a naive question, but I haven't really looked at this site before.

I think you're onto something. The level of cognitive dissonance required to be a Republican these days is staggering. I say that as a former Republican who still shares many rhetorically 'conservative' views, but whose brain, heart, and soul just could not abide their unflinching resolve to hijack the party of personal responsibility, small government, and private enterprise, and make it the party of dominionism and corporatism. There's really no other way to put it: the Republicans and their spokespeople (Townhall, Fox News, Clearchannel) can't possibly understand and agree with the views that they tout, they just BELIEVE them because they value loyalty and patriotism and the guys slathered in Red, White, and Blue HAVE to be patriotic and they HAVE to remain loyal to them.

Its sad, and I yearn for a day where we have two parties worth deliberating over. The Democrats are terrible hand wringing neoliberal goons, but at least they pay lip service to leveling the playing field and in many ways (other than foreign policy) are what the Republicans used to be.

The D's are shady and weak, but the R's are just farking loons who've chased all pragmatic, reasonable people away. The only ones left are the ones eager to live in a monoculture devoid of outside influence, a custom-crafted reality that echoes with anger and pride. Pity them, for they know not what they do.

How about The Handmaid's Tale? That seems FAR more prophetic than most dystopian fantasies, given the dominionist bent of Christian right. Or Oryx and Crake, given the corporatocracy we seem hell-bent on forming.

Really, I think the DNC should just mail a copy of every book Margaret Atwood has ever written to every registered voter in the country.

I've still never gotten a coherent explanation from a pro-drilling conservative as to how changing the supply of oil HERE is going to change the price of oil on WORLD markets when OPEC can just drop its output to keep the supply/demand at exactly the same ratio. They usually just clam up or start pretending that somehow, out of the goodness of their hearts, oil companies (many of which aren't even U.S. companies) will only sell it to us and they'll sell it at below market rates.

But, then, I've never accused a conservative of being honest....

Sorry to break it to you but most economists agree that no matter how much oil we can drill here, we'll never see prices that low again.

Thank the BRIC nations for that one.

You've got the same people believing that the President of the US can "control" oil prices; so people will believe anything stupid if it's sold properly.
