Um, Subby, this isn't a list of titles that launched consoles, this is a list of crappy games that were available at the launch of each console.

/and yeah, I only remember a few like Summoner, always wondered if it would be worth a rent, guess not.

Summoner was actually pretty good, and had an interesting plot, though the twist half-way through was massively transparent.

However, the Dead Alewives D&D reenactment with characters from the game (and another game...Oni maybe?) was priceless, especially with the big demon guy looking for Cheetos and Mountain Dew and wanting to do the girls at the bar.

Fano: 12. Whatever came with the VirtuaBoy

Given that they're trying to call specific SegaCD and Jaguar games bad, as opposed to everything that came out with the systems tells me the author has no idea what the hell they're talking about.

/Of course, they didn't even mention the VirtualBoy.

Red Faction actually. That was Volitions other game around the same time. Summoner wasn't terrible, but grinding the support characters became rather tedious and a lot of the fetch quests were mind numbing and pointless

He also seems to think the NES launched with *only* 3 games: 2 ROB games and DK math. It actually launched with 15 or 20.

So mostly Sega, PS, and Xbox games, list seems to be written by a Nintendo apologist, most of the games he listed sucked.

NES - Mega Man
SNES - Final Fantasy II
N64 - Mario 64
PSOne - Resident Evil
Dreamcast - Tony Hawk 2
XBOX - Max Payne/Halo
PS2 - Final Fantasy X
XBOX 360 - Gears of War
PS3 - BlueRay (not a game, but is the reason I got it)

Yes! I also bought the sega CD on the day it was launched. I got $300 worth of positive pure suckage. Great grafix for the time, but all the games made for it were like a crappy movie where you had to push a button or move the controller at certain times to advance the crappy movie. They could at least have given me

That's a much better list and makes for a better thread.
Mine would be:

NES - Mario 3

TG16 - Bonk's Adventure
N64- Mario 64
PS1 - FF7
Dreamcast - Grandia 2

me too. it was all made worthwhile by 5 things - the best version of Mortal Kombat you could get at the time, Eternal Champions CD, Sonic CD, Earthworm Jim (Special Edition), and the fact that you can burn the games straight to cd and they will run with NO modifications.

Fano: 12. Whatever came with the VirtuaBoy

I have a Virtual Boy packed away somewhere. According to Supes' link Nintendo's headache machine launched with four games. I have three of the four.

Galactic Pinball.

Not a bad game. It's a very slow paced pinball drawn in perspective view with a puck instead of a ball. A few nice visual effects here and there. Relaxing. Probably my favourite on the Virtual Boy. Which isn't saying much. Not much in the way of 3D, this would work perfectly well on the Gameboy.

Mario's Tennis.

It's playable and has an effective parallax effect for the 3D. Fun for a few minutes until your temples start to throb.

Red Alarm.

A 3D wireframe shooter that should be good, but the combination of odd controls, wireframe graphics and the need to concentrate just to see what is on the screen makes this one of the most confusing games I have ever played. I've spent several minutes bouncing off of black walls defined by thin red lines looking for the black opening defined by the very same red lines without hitting black obstacles defined by the same thin red lines and trying to remember which black spots defined by thin red lines is actually my spaceship.

Teleroboxer.

I don't have this one but as one of the very few first-person perspective games on the Virtual Boy, which thus actually fits in with the virtual reality concept behind it, I suppose it deserves a mention. I have heard that it's quite good. I can see it working well with the dual D-pad controller.

Am I the only one who kind of enjoyed Donkey Kong Jr Math? (I'm talking about the VS mode. The single player mode was boring as hell...)

Sure, I would not have wanted to own the actual game cartridge, but it was a cool game as far as 110-or-so-games-in-one cartridges go.

KillAllHumans: Tommy

Still have mine, too. Love it. The game music is hilarious in that "old people dancing" kinda way (until the 7th inning, when the srs bsns tune shows up.) While I didn't notice as a kid, I now appreciate the Star Trek names scattered throughout the rosters.

From Software went completely nuts with the PS2 rpgs. I wish they had more than just Dark Souls, Demon's Souls, and 3D Dot Game Heroes this gen....

//Still owns and plays Kings Field and Shadow Tower from the PS1 era.
///I'm a masochist.

I'll have a goo.

My list of consoles owned and reason why I got them:

Commodore 64: 300 baud modem
Intellivision: Pac-man
NES: Legend of Zelda
SNES: A Link to the Past
Genesis: Sonic the Hedgehog
Game Boy: Tetris
Game Gear: Star Wars
Game Boy Color: Color screen
Game Boy Advance: Super Mario Advance series
Game Boy DS: GBA broke
N64: Mario Cart 64, Star Fox 64
PSX: Wipeout!, FF7
PS2: FFX, DVD player

Whatever happened to gaming? When the NES came out and I saw Super Mario Bros. for the first time it was amazing (being used to Atari 2600 games at the time). Then years later a friend brought his new SNES to school and I saw Zelda and it was amazing all over again. When I saw Mario 64 running on a demo machine at Walmart it blew my mind. Then I saw what the PC could do, walking out of the ship in Unreal and seeing Nyleve's Falls for the first time, jaw hit the floor.

Now consoles come out and...boring. PS3, 360 and PC games all look the same and are mostly just the same tired rehashed titles over and over again. How many Call of Duty games do we really need. Maybe I'm just getting old but gaming is kind of lame these days. There are gems here and there like the Portal series but nothing mind blowing like back in the early console days.

Say "Twilight Princess" for the wii. It's a good fallback for not admitting that you liked the bowling game it came with.

I really enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy 1/2, Super Mario Bro's Wii, Twilight Princess (I did not like the last Zelda game at all, I stopped playing a few dungeons in), Mario Kart, and that's about all I play on it.
