It's farking warped tour, not an "impersonate GG Allin while on speed" festival.

It's coming to my town, and nobody here is worried. It's mostly minors and is monitored very well by security. Heck my 15 year old is going!

Careful Irvine. Wouldn't want something not-boring to happen in your little planned community.

Seriously, Irvine. You probably had more mayhem at Blizzcon. It's not like the Gathering of the Juggalos for christ's sake.

Yes, Irvine, most of the acts will suck, but fear not. Bad Religion usually puts on a kick-ass set.

Does Max Yasgur have a place near by? That guy knew how to host a festival.

Maybe they should be worried. I don't think Irvine's had that much youth-oriented marketing and product placement come to town since...since, uh...shiat, I dunno.

My point is that the Warped Tour is about 5% music (if you can call it that) and 95% selling crap to impressionable teenagers.

/Fark you, I'm tired

Rock Festivals of all sorts have multiplied in the U.S. in recent years. And almost without exception, they're fun and well-run operations that result in good times for attendees and increased revenues for the cities & towns that host them. You have to have a mental disease to be against them, at this point.

Speaking of which, this August will mark the sixth year in a row that I will get my picture taken next to the religious zealots protesting outside Lollapalooza. Those people are genuinely hilarious.

I've been to a Warped Tour and it was actually safer than the neighborhood we lived in. Saw NOFX and Flogging Molly so all of my needs were met.

my biggest impression of the warped tour (from a Florida show a couple years ago): HOLY fark IT'S HOT. HOTHOTHOT.

It's too hot to do anything crazy'

Why, the next thing you know they'll be building a pool hall!

Um, I went to a Warped Tour in Irvine in 1998. What are they getting all upset about? It has happened before!

Yep, I'm pretty sure they've played at Irvine Meadows. And if not, plenty of other tours that would bring people of questionable repute to the city have played at Irvine Meadows.

Plus, it's not like anyone actually goes to the Great Park. Who the hell wants to hang out at a Superfund site?

Yep, I just checked the ticket. July 2, 1998 - Safari Field at Irvine Meadows. I'm pretty sure I still have dirt in my teeth from that show.

Vegas did the same teeth gnashing the first time the Electric Daisy Carnival came here. "OMG the corpses from Ecstasy overdoses will fill the streets and clog the sewers!!!" Then it made us over a 120 million locally so now it's welcomed with open arms and gets front page coverage.

Old People need to just shut up and watch NCIS.

Heck.. they stopped Jimmy Buffett from performing at that venue.. because the audience are a bunch of drunks. :)

I've never been to Warped tour, but I imagine the Nazi/skinhead quotient would be a lot lower than Ozzfest back in the day.

If by mayhem you mean "greasy teenagers trying to sneak a J behind the Port-a-Potties", then mayhem you will get.

/Last went when I was 26.
//Felt far, far too old to be there.
///Really short beer lines, though.

Those kids may seem scary with their crazy hairdos and face piercings, but I assure you they like their French fried potato slices and hamburger sandwiches all the same.

Phish

Love Phish, like DMB, but OMG! HIPPIES! OH. MY. GAWD!!!

I've been to a few concerts there but I hate the venue because it's a total clusterfark to get to; at one show, I was parked on the 405 for nearly 2 hours, I moved about 5 feet in that time. Never again.....

Other than the Hollywood Bowl, it's the best open air venue I've been to. You just have to get their early and park near the exit. Either way, it's not going to be there much longer anyways, as Irvine will eventually not renew the lease, just like they did with Wild Rivers. They're building houses on the Wild Rivers location and guess what's going to happen when those people start hearing the noise from the venue? Oh, sorry, we're revoking your lease for sound pollution.

Was that around '02 or '03?

I was at the Indy stop then, Anti-flag, bouncing souls, nofx, flogging molly, lars &the bastards, and bad religion are the ones I really remember.

laughed at that cause its so true.

/ irvine is beautiful and a great city ... but i wouldn't pay 2x as much for 1/2 the size of a normal apartment just to live there.

Irvine survived a Grateful Dead tour, this is nothing.

The audience demographic is seriously closer to middle schoolers, nowadays. I've been to six Warped Tours, usually just to see the one older act that came along that just get ignored by all the kids in the pit (LOOK CHILDREN, THAT'S HELMET!).

Actually, that's the best thing about Warped Tour, my 5' 7" self towering above everyone else.

my nephew's band is in the Warped Tour, so I'm getting a kick, etc. etc.........

2012-06-14 03:37:49 PM
Take a population of 18,000 kids/drunks/whatever, spread out doing their normal activities on any given weekend and you'd probably have the same number of infractions / arrests... concert in town or not.

2012-06-14 04:21:57 PM
Love me some Warped Tour, but without NOFX it doesn't seem worth it. Seen a lot of great bands there tho...in addition to the usual suspects, 311, Eminem, Fear, Rocket From The Crypt, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Fishbone, Deftones, Rancid, Vandals and oddly...3OH3 were great live,

I live in Irvine - it's as boring as you've heard.

Irvine is the only place I've lived that I didn't love at the time of living there. I was so happy when I moved. Hell I only moved a few miles away and it was such a relief. I don't know why, but planned, boring, flat, cement-ville just messed with my psyche. It's a nice, safe place and all, but it's also depressing. Also the Irvine company is so corrupt. They have a monopoly on real estate and charge ridiculous rent for shoebox apartments. This practice is "acceptable" in a city, but not in the suburbs.

Then don't live there?

Plus, there are "fun" areas of Irvine around the college and along Jamboree in west Irvine and you're very close to NB, CM, and HB for anything else

I don't live there anymore :P. I was just saying it was my least favorite place I lived despite being a nice place on paper. It wasn't so much that it was boring that bothered me, I just can't put my finger on what it was, but it depressed me. I much preferred NB. Of course I don't live in CA anymore.
