What's almost as impressive as that:

Through 8 innings Cain has struck out 9 different Astros batters; only Chris Johnson has put in the ball in play every time to the plate.

Wow.

Pitchers are just dominating this year. Then again, we've been saying that around this time of year every year for a while now.

Yes - first after 130 years, nearly 20,000 games.

Sorry Cain, it's against the Astros. It just doesn't count.

Completely historic game. First Giant in history to pitch one. 22nd in the history of the sport. It's hard not to feel the same thrill of that moment in 2010, to be completely honest.

That's right - Halladay and Braden within 3 weeks of each other - not just no-nos but perfect

I sound fat: Great, now EVERYONE is pitching perfect games....

/it's weird, but there are more possibilities these days: 162 games X 16 is quite a few more games that 154 X 8
//still statistically improbable, since there were zero perfect games 1923 - 1955, i.e., the golden age of baseball, but 8 the last 15 years

Figures it would be Cain that did it. I figured Lincecum was the most likely until last season, and Cain seemed to be pretty average

/now I understand why Cain got the big contract

No way. Cain was the least supported with runs along with, I believe, MadBum last year. His greatness is in his consistency and the level of that consistency. He gave up one run in two full games at the beginning of this season. I'm just so proud since he's been a Giant his whole, professional life.

After that no-hitter a few weeks ago, I seem to recall reading a story on Yahoo! pondering which pitcher would be the next to toss a no-no and unless I'm mistaken the writer put forth Matt Cain as the one most likely to toss the next.

Jesus. That was Jimedmondsesque. Cain owes that dude a steak dinner.

That link's been updated, here's a direct one.

I'm a Dodgers fan but I have to tip my cap, props to Cain.

No argument there: Matt has been consistent as hell

/inconsistent offense is another subject, entirely
//Buster seems to have picked up right where he left off, though

For clarity's sake, I was referencing the Johan Santana no-hitter, not the frankenstein one by half of the Mariners' pitching staff.

\\Not disrespecting multi-pitcher no-no's
\\\They just don't have the same luster as the solo ones.
