Anybody have recs for a decent front- and rear- camera dvr setup here in the US? Most of the ones I see on amazon and various chinese importer websites have marginal reviews and crap for image quality.

I record my commute to and from work.
Having worked as an insurance adjuster was all it took. Well, that and watching the footage from some other folks with dash cams.
My set up is a windshield suction cup cellphone holder turned around so it faces front and I put in a Flip camera. It is a bit of a hassle having to change the battery out every few days and I know something will happen the one time I'm not recording. Hopefully I'll never be glad I had it.

I had always wondered why there were so many dash-cam vids from Russia. Looks like my initial guess (shady legal system/corrupt cops) was proven partly correct.

I used to work with a bunch of ex-USSR guys. One told me that cops in Siberia (where he's from) are very corrupt, and will happily shake you down, beat you up, firehose you, whatever they feel like. One time while he was visiting, he got pulled over and pretended he didn't know Russian. (He knew his thickly accented English would be indistinguishable to them from any other kind of English.) They looked at his Rhode Island driver's license in confusion -- they'd never heard of that country. They eventually just let him go, apparently unsure of who he was or who he might know. (He was a former Soviet Air Force flying instructor, so I'm sure he knew just what kind of attitude might make them uneasy.)
