I had a buddy, 14 or 15, can't remember exactly when it happened - mid 80s - who was rape-raped by a woman from the next town over. I would guess Mom finding out is what did it. At that point, the mother goes ballistic and the boy really has no choice but to go along with Mom. Up until the moment that Mom found out, the boy was probably perfectly content having sex with the teacher (explaining the multiple encounters he had with her).

The only reasons he might come forward himself would be (1) he's raised by an overzealous mother who uses guilt trips to keep him in line or he's raised in a strongly religious household and he starts to feel guilty, or (2) he falls hard for the teacher, the teacher rebuffs him, and he becomes depressed and angry, or (3) he's a dope about the whole thing, can't keep his mouth shut, and then feels like he needs to come forward before he gets into trouble.

It's awkward being a boy at that age. Your hormones are raging. If you've got a female teacher that you even remotely fantasize about sexually, it can be tremendously distracting. If that teacher in any way expresses the slightest interest in you, no matter how innocent it might be, it just amplifies the whole experience. The term "vulnerable" doesn't begin to do it justice at that point. You are willing -- and able -- to a fault. Any misstep can be emotionally devastating. In that situation, the teacher really does have complete control, and that's where the line can be crossed very easily. If he's got a crush on/hard-on for the teacher, the boy doesn't have to be coerced. If the teacher wants to cross the line, the boy will go along with her, because he wants it to occur.

On the other hand, if you're a female teacher and you're dealing with boys in this age group, it has to be like navigating a minefield if any of them begin expressing their interests/desires. Nowadays, because of all the stories of teachers who cross the line, even the mere rumor or suggestion that something inappropriate is happening can have terrible consequences for your life and career.

I actually do "get it." With the bipolar thing, I was hypersexual in high school and college, so drive-wise it was almost like being a teenage boy. Only, you know, teenage boys are supposed to be hot and horny for everything with a suggestion of a curve to it.

It's a bit more disconcerting when you're not supposed to be that voraciously interested, and you are, and you've been raised in an intensely and restrictively religious household.

Yeah, real recipe for crazy, there.

But yeah, I know, if he's got the slightest crush for the teacher, the heavens opened and the nookie descended, and yea, verily, he was blessed---and he ain't complaining and doesn't want it to stop, but that doesn't mean what's going on is good for him, because the control dynamic there sucks and the exploitation dynamic just about guarantees that it's going to end badly.

At 16 I would have hit it with a hot enough 32 year old that paid attention to me and cut me out of the herd and offered, too. And no doubt would have imagined myself in love and banged at any opportunity. But it wouldn't have been good for me. There are good reasons for the rule 16 will get you 20.

I don't really think it should actually get you 20. Unless we're talking months.

I think with the teenage men and women both, it matters whether they were already sexually active with people their own age. If they'd already had a couple of partners under their belt, then they're significantly less vulnerable to the delusion that the older partner invented nookie and is the sacred source of all sublime bliss.

I guess my daughter was right when she told me that the guys in this country are all a bunch of pussies. Just neuter the kid and be done with it. ( Although after this his rep at school will most likely ensure that he never gets laid again. )
