FTFA: "I couldn't afford to bring chefs in from Europe, it was too expensive. And then I thought about Iran... I brought some chefs in from Iran to train the Afghans about cooking pizza. They were with us for one year and then I had my own trained staff," he says.

There are just so many thnigs wrong with that statement that I don't even know where to begin. Pizza chefs from Iran??? And a year to train the Afghans to cook pizza??? That should take about an hour. Maybe 2 hours if you include making the dough.

"No, no, you Afghan pig, the sauce goes on TOP of the dough. Do we have to beat the soles of your feet again?"

Just think, in a few years Iran and Afghanistan will have a pizza rivalry like NYC and Chicago. Wrap your mind around that one.

Also, I'm kind of surprised that he spent $100k USD starting up a pizza place in Kabul. I kind of figured the costs of real estate and building out the place would be lower there... and its not like hes paying a franchise fee.

Furthermore, what Afghan has $100k USD laying around?

Kabul is strange place....the wedding centers are straight from Las Vegas with the neon and glass, but one block away, an open-air market with fly-covered sides of beef hanging up...huge piles of trash, new buildings for the current goverment, over-grown parks from another time....and the huge, dead expanse of what was an Olympic park.

And the bombed out King and Queen's palaces.....it stays with you.

You'ld be surprised how long it takes some people to learn. I had a coworker who never got the concept of yeast. She took too long putting the dough in the cooler causing the yeast to die in the cooler instead of hibernating. Later the dough wouldn't rise and had black spots. I felt bad for our customers and did not blame those who chose not to come back. These guys, I am sure, are working with scratch ingredients and not the premix pouches from Little Caesar's. So, I'll cut them a little slack for they are probably making a really good product verses a slap together easy bake pizza from our major chains.

I was on one of the FOB's in Kabul, and a local guy had a restaurant on the base...we got back in from a convoy trip that was pretty rough, and a couple of us recalled this guy had pizza on the menu, with real silverware and plates.

We scraped up enough cash to buy a couple and sit at one of his tables...it was not "real pizza", but it was close enough to remind us of home.

If you completed all of them you got +50 max health.

And if you completed all the police missions you got +50 max armor

Fire truck mission completion got you immune to fire.

Ambulance missions get you infinite sprinting

They were all pretty difficult. The police was the easiest. If you used the helicopter.

Ah yes. I remember completing the firetruck (I think you had to get up to level 12 or something) missions, and, yeah, I used the attack helicopter for the police missions. I think I only got up to 11 on the ambulance missions. Stupid ambulance kept getting destroyed with the patients in the back.

I also remember how annoying they were - the emergency vehicles didn't have the music radio stations, and the police radio had like a five minute script.

Do you seriously think any locals can really afford, or care, to purchase pizza?

Anyway, this is old news. Sharana Air Field had motorbike pizza delivery in 2009. Of course, the employees there were Indians, not Persians. For being in a Halal country and employing vegetarians, they certainly made a nice American style pepperoni pizza to settle those cravings from something reminiscent of home.

Wow. I never made it to Kabul during my year there. The countryside is much less war torn, as there was much less there to begin with. My last trip was to Kosovo, and the cities were similar to what you describe. I certainly saw more poor people in Kosovo.

There is a lot of pizza that Papa Johns is better than. Frankly, for chain delivery it is near the top of the heap. It is better than Little Caesars, whose defining characteristic is utter blandness, and also better than Pizza Hut, which tastes like nothing so much as a dirty grease-soaked kitchen sponge. Its also better than old Dominoes (haven't tried their new pizzas).
