Actually, given the amount of money involved, the gambling factor, and the integrity of the state athletic commission, I don't have a problem with an investigation here. This is not equivalent to blowing millions of dollars because Roger Clemens might have injected some weird stuff into his ass and the prosecutor wants a career case.

2012-06-13 10:19:01 AM
yes, he should be spending his time on jobs legislation, just like republicans. oh, wait...

/agree that this shouldn't be front-burner stuff.

2012-06-13 10:19:56 AM
Wait, there was a controversial decision made in a boxing match decided by judges with millions of dollars on the line?

That doesn't sound like professional boxing at all!

"I feel confident there has been nothing untoward but if an investigation makes everyone feel better, do the investigation,"

He's an idiot.

Boxing Nevada Mormons is my tentative screenplay for a movie about a polygamist who traps his wives in boxes, one is named Helena, and they have to rely on the kindness of him to survive.

What's his boxing strategy, take every punch and, upon regaining consciousness, tell his opponent he made a couple of salient points that he's willing to meet halfway on?

Mormons looking into a gambling scandal?

I guess that's why she quit American Idol.

I didn't have a problem with the steroid investigations either. A large, multistate business that operates under an antitrust exemption perpetrated a decades long fraud by turning a blind eye to cheating.

To be fair, he said he thinks the Nevada AG should investigate, not himself or Congress or the feds. So it's not like he's wasting congresses time.

Nevada Mormon, Boxing is my screenplay about the very same thing, only it's told from his perspective, and it's about the duties and responsibilities of being married to some ungrateful biatches.

There was also a Jennifer Lopez who was on the Weather channel for a while. I don't know if she's still there. But you could write in and get an autographed picture. So I did.

The way it was done was pointless, though. It was a parade of shaming players and very little focus on how much the league knew about what was going on... and everyone damn well knows the league turned a blind eye while the cash was rolling in.

We need to pitch this to Clint Eastwood. It will be the Mormon "Flags of our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima".

Pacquiao got punished for refusing to get in the ring with Mayweather. Something tells me that Mayweather's next fight may go very similar.

Everyone who makes money on the sport wants that fight to go down, they'll send a message if they have too.

I feel confident there has been nothing untoward but if an investigation makes everyone feel better, do the investigation

So "feh, whatevs" = "calls for an investigation"

But if he meets the next punch halfway then the full force of the punch won't be felt.

Given my knowledge of Mormon gambling, I'd say $10,000.

You know, if they had reason to believe that there was some organized crime involvement in potentially fixing the fight, then I could understand a potential investigation. Except that's not why he wants to do the investigation, he just wants to do it to make people feel better. He's a douche.

I really read it as more of a *shrug* "I guess" because a reporter asked him about someone else filing a complaint. But it's Senator Reid that's CALLING for an investigation because he used to box.

Taking a partisan jab at this non-issue....since their entire strategy seems to just be to blame others for all the ills of the world. Rigged fight was rigged, big deal. Color me shocked. There's other issues to worry about than two underachievers knocking each other senseless with their fists.

If they keep the public busy with a boxing match, they will not notice how corrupt both parties are. Well, not like they would anyway

IIRC, most of the judges for that fight were pretty old.

/Friggin's senior citizens.

I heard Vegas bookies took a beating on this fight. Someone needs to watch out for the bookies.

Why can't Congress fix the economy and fix the problems that affect us all? They are distracted and want to investigate a corrupt entertainment event. Anything to distract them from serving the country...

If I'm not mistaken, he's just expressing an opinion as a private citizen and boxing fan, not as a senator.

So this thread should get a lot of outraged idiots and trolls.

Another complete waste of time investigation. The truth is so clearly evident, I feel like they're trolling us by saying shiat like this.

Yeah, that's why. Otherwise, this thread on the Fark Politics tab would be full of marvelous little chunks of reason and enlightenment.

It's not like he has to pass a budget or anything...

Thanks, Nevada Republicans. You had two perfectly good primary candidates who could put this senile idiot out to pasture, but you had to go with the Tea Party lunatic. Thanks a bunch.
