Game, Portugal. 3-2 the final.

star_topology: Ronaldo with a card for that shot after the whistle. Wahhhh

Pretty sure it for the trip after the terrible pass sent his way.

Portugal were the better team overall and deserved the win.

I wonder how much today's game increased Nik's sale price. Hopefully a fair amount.

bartink: Russ Feingold's Brass Balls: Carl Winslow's .9 MM: I got a good bit of money on the Dutch advancing, so what would be the ideal result of the first game?

This isn't bad, if the Dutch can beat the Germans. Then they just need a tie against Portugal.

...I think.

They just lost to Denmark. What makes you think they will beat the Germans?

Germany didn't really look like world-beaters against Portugal. Nothing would surprise me in this group at the moment.

Denmark/Portugal was pretty fantastic to the neutral fan. Hopefully Germany/Holland can try and be a worthy follow-up...

Ugh. I knew they were gonna lose it still after the tie :( they stopped playing and panicked.

Yeah, saw it a few minutes ago. I totally expected it. I doubt they have a strong enough case this time around. Plus, getting it overturned would also possibly kill similar deals for the Phoenix based teams (Suns and D'backs).

I think (and hope) you're right there. I wonder what the GWI would say if the Coyotes moved? Can't imagine there would be much love, even among the tax-payers of Glendale.

Best match of the tournament so far. Also not the worst result as far as Germany is concerned. They can stand alone on top with the win tonight.

I think the taxpayers of Glendale would end up suing GWI after a while for bankrupting the city.

Now, to turn this back to soccer; I've always wondered why the Phoenix area hasn't been approached for a MLS team. There's more than enough interest in the sport that it could work here.

because it's a 120 and sunny during the season? players might actually die. though i guess players survive in dallas and houston. and those places are hell.

Humidity is much lower in PHX area and it gets significantly more comfortable when the sun goes down.

We have a retractable roof stadium that the US Men's and Women's teams have played in (the NFL's Cardinals stadium). Yeah, it's right next to that hockey arena we were talking about, but start times can be adjusted to make sure people are there on time.

And the forthcoming renovations to Sun Devil Stadium should make it much more comfortable both on and off the field.

As a Houston (well, near enough to it) native, I would much rather do anything outside in Phoenix than in Houston. Breathing is a huge problem in the summers here. All the humidity makes it feel like you are breathing water.
