Ya know what? If anybody EVER asks me to join a neighborhood watch program, I'm going to slam the goddamn door in their face.

Why? I've been part of my neighborhood watch for years without incident. We've made the neighborhood safer and I've gotten to know a lot of my neighbors well. It's a good experience and it fosters community.

'Course, we also don't carry around weapons and pretend we're the A-Team, and, most importantly, we don't attempt to do the police department's job.

You know thinking about it that is pretty much where the Zimmerman case fails all the way around no one not Zimmerman, not the cops not the prosecutor not the defense no one is using any common sense, a neighborhood watch where you do just that watch and report is often a good idea what he (Zimmerman) did interacting whether right or wrong was just stupid

I am the defacto neighborhood watch on my street, since no one else does it, and I happen to have a background in Security. That said, I don't go around in uniform, I don't carry a gun, and I don't interfere with anyone.

I just watch, and call the police if needed. Zimmerman should have stopped at calling the police and left it at that. Then he and his bride (The Baron) wouldn't be in jail, and Trayvon likely would still be alive.

Why do people assume that if the cops had handled this Trayvon Martin would still be alive?

Exactly... Once I week, I walk around the block, make note of any new graffiti (which get's called in to my City Councilor to get cleaned up), and check on the few empty houses in the neighborhood to make sure no one has broken in to steal the copper. If it's early enough, I'll check in on my elderly neighbors to make sure they're OK, see if they need anything, and just talk to them for a bit (Old folks tend to know what's going on in the neighborhood since they're usually home all day), and just keep my eyes open for anything or anyone that looks suspicious.

I think I've actually had to call the cops on someone 4 or 5 times in as many years, honestly, and I'll bet my city is more dangerous than that podunk Zimmerman was in.

Had Mr. Zimmerman acted as a member of the A-Team, he would have emptied the entire magazine of his firearm at Mr. Trayvon Martin, and he would have missed every shot.

I don't assume it, but I think it slightly more likely. The cops are somewhat better trained to differentiate between a Snapple bottle and a MAC-10.

How many of those elderly people had their home invaded by a group of robbers who held them against their will? Because that happened in Zimmermans podunk neighborhood.

What the hell were they thinking? Way to destroy whatever ounce of credibility you may have had in the court of public opinion George. However, their attorney, Mark O'Mara, really screwed up in my opinion. By the time of the bond hearing, EVERYONE knew George had set up the website to raise money for his defense. O'Mara should have known exactly how much money the Zimmermans had before walking into the courtroom that day.

Telling half truths is the same as lying when you're under an oath to tell the whole truth. This applies to the Zimmermans' testimony as much as it applies to the prosecution's probable cause affidavit. But I won't be holding my breath waiting for a judge to throw Angela Corey in jail for perjury.

Dude, I know, I agree with you, and I am going into shock. No really, my body is shutting down because you aren't defending carte blanche an asshole with a gun. I mean, I don't know your gun politics, I just know you defend "that sort" tooth and nail. The kind that defends the shiatty laws passed in the name of the 2nd amendment. You earned a real, non-sarcastic gold star today. And if you keep it up the good work, I'll tone down the patronizing attitude.

Happy Hours: Why do people assume that if the cops had handled this Trayvon Martin would still be alive?

Because even if it did go down the way Zimmerman claims (i.e. he was attacked) and even if Martin was dumb enough to just flat out attack a cop (unlikely), police have plenty of ways to deal with an unarmed attacker before pulling out the guns.

Tasers, batons, pepper spray. Not to mention most cops could probably beat up a teenager just fine. Or shoot to wound.

Even though I know many farkers have a dim view of the police, I hope at least you don't think they would just up and shoot the guy as their Plan A. Dead bodies = paperwork.
