Darwin 1 - drunk teen 0. TaDa.

2012-06-13 12:49:59 AM
Yah that's definately a contender for "Darwin award of the year".

2012-06-13 01:50:43 AM
Reminds me of this.

2012-06-13 02:09:47 AM
Why is this kid shooting a pistol without supervision? And where did he get to booze?

2012-06-13 02:17:03 AM
Dammit subby, you made me think he blew it up.

What? The GF doesn't have a video camera?

This About That: What? The GF doesn't have a video camera?

That's the real surprise.

Sigh.

ricocheted and hit him in the head

That's not predictable. A big explosion is predictable.

Clifford Simak's SF novel Visitors had alien devices that defended themselves by bouncing whatever was shot at them back to the source.

Spad31: Sigh.

I gave up on that long ago. just figured they were proving their ignorance.

/plus - language is dynamic. In reality, there are now synonyms for magazine. Doesn't matter what you wish the world was like.

Ambivalence: Yah that's definately a contender for "Darwin award of the year".

meh - pretty tame darwin candidate

Error403: Darwin 1 - drunk teen 0. TaDa.

Evolution is a fact. Your disbelief does not change reality!!
/fact. just because we do not understand exactly how evolution works, does not mean that evolution isnt real.

I was disappointed. I expected tank to explode and burn down house . I really hate these surprise endings.

Not with a .380 (although granted that little fact wasn't in the headline either)

/magazine sigh as well

Throw me in with the people who predicted an explosion.

A boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion (BLEVE, /ˈblɛviː/ BLEV-ee) is an explosion caused by the rupture of a vessel containing a pressurized liquid above its boiling point.[
This is how most pressurized gasses like propane and butane react

2012-06-13 12:12:36 PM
I came for the explosion and leave disappointed.

2012-06-13 12:39:47 PM
REMEMBER THIS

2012-06-13 12:40:40 PM
That some things in here don't react well to bullets would generally include butane tanks, but obviously are going to include heads.

Clearly the ol' butane putang gambit backfired. Though, that result it is surprisingly quite common.

2012-06-13 12:40:41 PM
ah yeah, Rubber-Glue Fu.
bounces off me, puts a hole in you.

2012-06-13 12:41:17 PM
Please be sober when shooting at butane tanks.

2012-06-13 12:42:27 PM
Who will the parents blame?

2012-06-13 12:42:33 PM
Predictably would have ended with a big kabloom

2012-06-13 12:42:42 PM
That's some fine handgun safety there, Israel.....

2012-06-13 12:42:50 PM
First guess was ricochet. Second guess was a kaboom.

/where's the earth shattering kaboom?

"Drunk teen shooting at butane tank ends predictably"

......but not explosively, as I had predicted, from what the stupid headline was suggesting

\therefore, subby fails

2012-06-13 12:43:37 PM
Somehow, I feel Hank Hill is involved in this. Damn butane, bastard gas . . .

2012-06-13 12:44:40 PM
Did he shoot his eye out?

2012-06-13 12:45:17 PM
That butane tank is an excellent shot.

This. This is ... almost ironic, expect that you'd expect him to die, just not like that.

One. He fired one shot that ricocheted and hit him in the head. Talk about your bad days. I guess it's true what Ronnie Van Zant said "When it's your time, it's your time."

2012-06-13 12:48:33 PM
So the end of Dawn of the Dead (2004) was a lie?

2012-06-13 12:48:36 PM
I didn't see that coming.

2012-06-13 12:49:11 PM
Butane is a bastard gas!

2012-06-13 12:49:12 PM
There wasn't going to be an explosion. Mythbusters "James Bond Special," anyone?

When I was a teenager in SW La., I worked for my uncle in the rice fields. All his farm equipment ran off of butane so he had big butane tanks on wheels that he moved from one field to another to keep the tractors/combines fueled up. One day my cousin and a friend of his were out in the field and goofing off. My cousin took the hose with the nozzle on it and they were oohing and aahing over how when they cracked the valve open, the butane would vaporize in a big cloud. Well at some point he cracked that valve open and near as anyone could figure, some static electricity set that cloud off. He was damn fortunate somehow. He did get burned but it looked like a really bad sunburn on his face and arms. It burned much of his hair off to the point he had to get his hair cut really short. I think the ass beating he got from my uncle was probably worse than the burns.

Came for one of our local OCD pedants posting that stupid "magazine and clip" graphic. Would have settled for the "media and AK-47" one.

Rule of thumb: don't shoot anything that's made of a harder metal than your bullet. This pretty much always includes steel.

"He withdrew the gun's clip and fired once at a butane tank"

Now where are all those "caliber queens" who think a .380 is too small for personal defense?

2012-06-13 12:51:33 PM
Might as well get this out:

"guns don't kill people, people do.."..

well, about that....

"if he had tried to kill that tank with a knife, this story would have ended differently".

violentsalvation: Why is this kid shooting a pistol without supervision? And where did he get to booze?

From another FA: Trevino said deputies found Torres' father and his two sons had been drinking heavily prior to the incident.

"All three are pretty drunk when someone pulls a .380-caliber, semi-automatic [handgun] and shoots it into the backyard," Trevino said. "The 17-year-old gets it and tells his girlfriend, 'Here, look, pull the trigger.'"

That's some fine parenting there.

Also, just to stir the pot:

"He fires one time and shoots himself in the head," Trevino said, adding that Torres' family was living in the U.S. illegally.

That only happens if you're shooting at an illudium Pu-36 explosive space modulator.

My older brother shot a .177 caliber pellet at a golf ball lying on the ground at pretty much point-blank range. The durned thing ricocheted and instantly hit him in the center of his forehead where it stuck for about 3 seconds before falling off. The image of that still cracks me up. Didn't break his skin, but made a sweet little dent in it. He walked around the rest of the day with a cute, red circle on his forehead.

For once I was hoping for something directed by Michael Bay.
