We've had enough discussions about this over the past two days to last all offseason.

I'm not saying another word about it until the end of the series.

My favorite sub-subplot: Juwan Howard's quest for a ring.

Lebron has this nasty habbit of choking in the finals, Sonics in 6.

2012-06-12 07:33:23 PM
Go not Lebron.

I find Dwyane Wade much more unlikeable than LeBron.

This is why I only watch college sports. It gets ugly when the teams don't have to pretend to be honest.

I hope it's a great series.

And a buddy of mine asked if the Thunder win, would Durant become the 1st Longhorn to win an NBA title, which is 1/2 true...Royal Ivey is also on the team, though on the end of the bench.

Then it occurred to me, in both conference finals, there was a Longhorn on all 4 teams, so basically at least one Horn is guaranteed an NBA ring this year.

/Yeah Not that much of a CSB, but for a program that is mediocre in hoops, that's a nifty bit of info for us

I'm guessing the same thing that happened to the Celtics will happen to the Heat. Coming off a long, brutal series and the quick turnaround will benefit the home team that is younger and rested.

Thunder by 8-10.

2012-06-12 08:44:12 PM
I want OKC to win, clearly. I think OKC is the better team. I think OKC will win the series.

I can't do it. I like the team, the players, just not the fact that they're the former Seattle Supersonics. I'll pull for them and hope their douchebag owner chokes on something during one of the games. Preferably cocks. Barrels of cocks.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Stern isn't going to let the referees screw over his butt-buddy of an owner.

2012-06-12 08:47:36 PM
I said this in the other thread, but I think there's quite a bit of pressure for Oklahoma City to win the first game. If they don't, they're in a position where they're down 0-1 and have three of the next four games in Miami. Not that it's insurmountable, but it'll become quite a bit more difficult for the Thunder to win the series if they don't take game one.

2012-06-12 08:49:12 PM
Wait, I think that strategy is going to bit Miami in the butt...go small, but you are going to have the Thunder dare you to keep shooting from outside, rather than take it to the hole. Bad idea.

I just discovered my workplace does not have an ABC stream. They have every other damn channel (and Fox News is channel 1 for some reason). Ugh.

Blech, that sounds like a news package or something. I remember in my military days they had TVs that only had FoxNews and CNN. WTF is that sh*t?

The Thunder players, coaches, and GM staff had absolutely nothing to do with that (unlike the Heat, where they're directly involved in what people don't like about them,). And the people of OKC have done everything you can ask of a fan base and more (while Miami fans can't be bothered to show up until the end of the first quarter).

So I still have to go with the Thunder.

Don't bash OKC for this. It's maybe not the first place you think of for a pro sports franchise, but it's at least the equal of Jacksonville, Salt Lake, or Memphis. OKC fans have more than proved their worth.

I'm referring to one specific person who insinuated that they never could have won with this team in Seattle - it's because they're in OKC that they're winning. That's asinine. I don't give a sh*t if they bring it, so did Seattle.

This is a totally different crowd than the first two rounds. This is what i expect from a crowd in the playoffs. Before they were just hanging out for 46 minutes and standing up and yelling at the end. Everyone was talking about how it was one of the louder buildings and all I saw was a bunch of old white people sitting on their hands. Now I can see what you were talking about.

here's what i don't get. everyone is telling the sonics fan to get over and shut up. but doesn't their existence prove their point. if the bobcats or hornets had moved there wouldn't be a mass movement screaming about it. of course clay was always just looking for a team to bring home to okc. he was a boy with a new toy. but instead of taking a team from a city that didn't care (seriously find a bobcat fan), he stole the sonics with an assist from the nba. why? because stern wanted to send a message to every other nba city, "give us what we want or we'll shoot the hostage." that's what so farked up. it was a mob hit to keep the extortion going and most of america is ok with that. they stabbed a pregnant woman to take and keep her baby. ugh...

Not if he can only get the ball out by the three point line. LeBron can't do jackshiat getting the ball out there unless he is playing out of his mind like Game 6 against Boston. He needs the ball 3-5 feet closer.

One question, and let me preface this by saying that I certainly don't have an answer, but, is the NBA overall better or worse off after Seattle's move to Oklahoma City?

I would think that Stern would think in these terms and that his answer would be "yes". The thing of it is that businesses are not intended to make ethical, moral, or emotional decisions. Their only concern are their own good, and, by proxy, the good of the shareholders where applicable.

Unfortunately, sports tends to be highly emotional for many people. It's hyperbolic to say that losing a sports team is akin to a hostage being shot or a pregnant woman being stabbed. It sucks for fans, yes, but there are many worse things in life. Sports fans generally have no perspective.

2012-06-12 09:53:37 PM

Olfin Bedwere: Fish is taking over.

to be expected. here are the facts:

As of today, only 13 players in NBA history have won more championships than Fisher. Fisher, who was drafted along with Kobe Bryant in the 1996 draft, has worn a Lakers uniform for 13 of his 16 seasons in the league.

In the final five seasons of his initial stint in Los Angeles, the Lakers won three titles and made it to the NBA Finals four times, including Fisher's last season before signing with Golden State as a free agent.

The three seasons in which he never played for Los Angeles were the three worst seasons for the Lakers in Bryant's career.

Fisher spent one of those years (2006-07) playing in Utah, where he helped the Jazz advance to the Western Conference finals for the only time since the Stockton and Malone era, after they failed to make the playoffs the year before.

The following year, Fisher rejoined the Lakers, who lost to the Suns in the first round of the playoffs. Then Los Angeles went to each of the next three NBA Finals.

This season, Fisher was traded to the Rockets before Houston bought out his contract and he signed with the Thunder with 20 games left in the regular season. The franchise is now in the NBA Finals for the first time in 16 years.

If Juwon Howard can get a ring like this, there's no reason why Karl Malone can't put a uniform on and hang out on the bench hunting Mexican girls for a year.

FYI farkers, in the second half be on the lookout for a very attractive woman with a nice rack. She sits to the right of the basket and usually wears something sleeveless that prominently displays her boobies. She never wears the Thunder t-shirt.

I think you'd trade Cole for Westbrook, especially when it means more of Fisher on the court. I know he's been good this half but he's also Derek "I was about to lose my job to Steve Blake" Fisher.

IAmRight: kmaywfec: Or when you dive on the floor and the guy trips over you, you get called.

When the other guy has the ball, yeah, you do get called for that. I realize you're a Thunder fan so you've probably never seen basketball played before, but that's how the sport works.

You'd be right except that it was a loose ball.

2012-06-12 10:40:41 PM
Wade, virtually no one makes it when they have the ball, pause, step back, then shoot. Stop doing that.

2012-06-12 10:41:02 PM

TheJoe03: IAmRight: They wouldn't have called the fouls if they went in - and neither were fouls. Sh*t, there wasn't even contact on the Chalmers one.

Didn't we all agree in some past thread that Heat, Lakers, and Spurs fans shouldn't biatch about bad calls?

Celts fans are on that list to.

Lost $800 on a quick 3 on Kobe game in the Boston-Lakers finals.

It was money I had made on the other playoff games and baseball but still sucked badly. I did learn to never bet on basketball until i figure out the Stern fix system.

TheShavingofOccam123: stopping short

I just shove people that stop short on me ever since someone did it when I wasn't expecting it (they had a breakaway and I don't have the athleticism to jump over someone to block it, but I wanted to be there in case they missed) and I went ass-over-teakettle and sprained both my thumbs as I tried to break my fall. If I'm gonna get called for a foul anyway, let them have all the injury risk.

That's the point of this series though. If Wade keeps his ego in check and lets James win it, they succeed. If Westbrook has his ego in check and let's Durant win it, they succeed. The problem is that Westbrook wants to be Batman and there is a 5-10 percent chance that Wade set up this Heat squad to troll LeBron

4NSpy: Heat not getting the bounces

That's an excuse. Don't buy it.

2012-06-12 11:08:30 PM

bulldg4life: Wade and James have decided not to make anymore jumpers tonight

I'd be fine with this as long as it meant that they weren't going to take anymore. Look, guys, the Thunder have shot 10 more free throws and been called for four fewer fouls. The refs are going to try to even it out. But you have to drive to get those calls. So go get 'em.

2012-06-12 11:09:36 PM
Game of runs. Heat need to stop OKC and counter punch soon.

dj_spanmaster: 4NSpy: Heat not getting the bounces

Not an excuse, a joke on the cliche, since the two heat rebounders were foiled by an extra bounce on the rim. They literally didn't get the bounce.

2012-06-12 11:10:43 PM
Get Chalmers out of the game if he's going to have heart/lung problems.

2012-06-12 11:13:26 PM
Wow, Wade gets to the line with a bad call, shocking.

The restricted area if you are Collison against Wade is "on the floor"

2012-06-12 11:13:32 PM
In the restricted area my ass. They were giving that call to Battier and Haslem against the Celts all series.

Bad call. Stop sucking up, JVG.

2012-06-12 11:14:09 PM
The reason that's a foul is because the Heat still have 2 fouls more than the Thunder and several fewer FTs.

HOLD ON TO A F*CKING PASS

I'm still concerned though that the Heat can take game 2. If so, it'll be very rough to get to them at home. OKC needs to make sure Westbrook doesn't try to be the MAN in game 2 and let's Durant do his thing again.

It was a well played 2nd half, surprised me how fast they bounced back. I thought age would have caused some buttclenching game 1 that would have blown the series already. Now they have to play a complete game 2 and not fall victim to their success (i.e. everyone wants to be series MVP)

Exactly.

And the biggest thing was how the Heat got f*cking WORKED on the boards in the second half. They had an advantage in rebounds at halftime, and they finished -8 on the glass.

Mike Miller playing 10 minutes and Joel Anthony playing 2 is all f*cked up unless Miller was shooting like Battier.

Hard to imagine after this performance. Pretty significant I think the Thunder were able to come back in this one. Miami played pretty damn good that first half, especially the 1st quarter, and OKC just strangled them in the second half. Durant closed, Westbrook didn't kill them, OKC role players/bench outplayed Miami's.

BTW what happened to Harden down the stretch here? He only played 19 minutes and near as I can tell wasn't even in their at all for the 4th. Four fouls, but still.

Based on these playoffs, I think the 1st half strategy is to "be losing" because it seems that in close games, the team losing at half has won.

The one nice thing about it being a road game 1 is that it let Spoelstra try some sh*t out without the pressure of "if we lose one, we lose homecourt."

If they have Miller out there that long again, as well as Battier/Wade guarding Durant instead of LeBron all series, well, then he's an idiot.

If you look at his final numbers, they weren't particularly terrible, especially when you look at how he's played for the past couple weeks (mostly crappy then, too). So I say "meh" because while I know he's typically capable of better, I don't know if he's capable of much better RIGHT NOW.

Disclaimer: I hate LeBron. Great player but my god he whines. That said, he didn't lose this game. LeBron actually had a pretty good game. It was the rest of his teammates that played like junk in that second half and mainly that 4th quarter.

The Thunder is just so strong. Their defense was just incredible that second half. The Thunder just wasn't losing this game tonight.

Do I really need to go in depth on that? Wade is on the decline, Bosh is still a bit rusty, and the Heat bench is pretty farking bad for a finals team. They also have a bad center and at best a backup PG starting.
