Hey, we still have troops stationed in Germany. Can't we do a little Dresden re-enactment thing on these punks?

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have
striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The
hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on
other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war
machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of
Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well
equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of
1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats,
in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their
strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home
Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions
of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.
The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to
Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in
battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great
and noble undertaking.

SIGNED: Dwight D. Eisenhower

She and her husband moved to Geithain 19 years ago. They had lived in Leipzig, some 40 kilometers away, but had wanted their children to grow up in a safer environment, away from criminality and drugs, far from the dangers of the big city.

"Far from the dangers"? 25 miles is "far"?.

In European terms, yes.

Yeah, I'm going to have to say Ukraine's twice as bad. And I think there's something going on there right now that involves some ball kickers refusing to be white or something. Someone always has to ruin the fun.

Nobody should be too surprised by this. West Germany went through decades of dealing with their Nazis history. Under the Russians East Germany became a "say one thing, think another" culture. As soon as reunification happened neo-Nazi elements began to emerge.

/Along with the western portion being a veritable melting pot compared to the east.

The statement on page 5 of the slideshow is interesting: "National socialism can't be elected or begged for. It can only be achieved through the path of revolution." Take away the word "national" and you're left with a remark that anyone on the hard Left -- including those types overrepresented in movements like Occupy Wall Street -- would be proud to stand by.

This is more proof, as if any were needed, that both fascism and communism -- the latter of which frequently calls itself socialism, as in the acronym "USSR" -- are equally inimical to free societies; but in North America we don't have to worry about tiny fringes of neo-Nazis nearly as much as we do about hardcore leftists yearning to make a final end-run around democracy (i.e. because the brainwashed "masses" keep voting for the wrong parties like Republicans, Conservatives, etc.)

Used to go to a club in Meiningen back when I was stationed in Germany. There was most always a pack of 10-15 Nazi skinheads in the place but they didn't bother us Armerican "auslandern" even though they had us outnumbered by as many as 3 to 1 at times. Hell, there was a couple months that I'd be the only American soldier in the place.

By my observation, they maintained an attitude of "Don't start none, won't be none."

To be fair, the current semi-hysteria in the European press over Ukraine's real or imagined problem with "racism" has very little to do with the ability of that nation or Poland to host the Euro 2012 Championship. After all, South Africa hosted the 2010 World Cup despite the massacre of thousands of white farmers in the post-apartheid era, and yet such a level of racially- motivated violence was not mentioned by these same media outlets at all, despite the fact that in importance it easily eclipsed (for example) the harassment of African students in Kyiv.

What's that saying? "In America, 100 years is a long time; in Europe, 100 miles is a long distance".

Anyhow, this article is not surprising. The reason the neo-Nazis are rampant in eastern Germany is basically because the Soviets/East Germans told the people that Nazism wasn't their fault - as good socialists/communists, they were as victimized as any other group under the Nazis. In West Germany, the population was made to feel the shame of the Nazis, raised with the guilt of knowing what they and their ancestors did.

Because things are more complicated than dreamed of in your simplistic analysis. You could just as easily ask of Democratic voters, "how do you explain people who are white voting for a party that routinely awards spoils to favoured minority groups?" See how easy it is to create stereotypes?

My own opinion (as a foreigner) of the Republicans BTW is that they are only marginally less destructive to the economy and society of the US than the Democrats are, but then again I am making this criticism from the perspective of what the mainstream media in its wisdom is pleased to call "the far right". I happen to believe that the US under its current political system is f*cked no matter who wins its elections, because both parties are in favour of spending inconceivably vast amounts of money they cannot possibly repay, while at the same time encouraging (to varying degrees) a multiplicity of mutually- incompatible special interest groups to seek their own advantage at the expense of the country as a whole. On the day when there will finally be no more money to pay off the special interests, the US will collapse under its own weight; but after that it will hopefully be able to rise again as a great country on the strength of its hard work and resources. Let's hope that the collapse and subsequent renewal happen soon.
