I was always told when visiting Chicago if you're in a questionable neighborhood and a person asks you for directions, and you have no idea where he wants to go it's a sure fire way they know you're not from around there, and you may get mugged.

Last time I was asked for directions, it turned out to be a tactic - as soon as I began to speak, the guy pulled out a foot-long knife.

So, yeah, I might just panic if you ask me where Main Street is.

Yeah, this guy doesn't get to use that excuse, according to my Google Powers, Winder, GA has something like 14,000 people. Pretty sure it's not a mugging...

This has been my response when someone asked if I had change for a $20, oh and also it was a group of 5-6 teenage black males who witnesses later told me had concealed themselves with the purpose of ambushing me as I walked by. Just saying.

Winder is pronounced with a long I, setting up a local joke:

The sheriff pulls over a car with out-of-state plates and a broken tail light outside Winder. The driver, clearly annoyed, rolls down his window. "Yes, officer?"
"Son, do you know where you are?"
"Winder", the man says, pronouncing it wind-er.
"Naw," says the sheriff. "This here's a winder," tapping the glass with his nightstick. "You're in Winder, boy. Now step out of the car."

Had you bothered to check crime statistics you would have found Winder to have a significantly higher crime rate than the US average

I like how people ask for directions without even trying to find it and inconvenience the first person they see who is minding their own business jogging with their headphones on. I'm frequently harassed by old people trying to find the emissions test place when it is right down the road with signs everywhere. Look it up ahead of time! I'm not stopping my workout to help you.

I went to High School in a town twice that size and with actual contingents of Crips and Bloods that had moved to Az from LA. We had gang-based brawls in high school, and still nobody needed to pull out a gun when someone else asked for directions in front of the friggin' Health Dept.

the complainant told an officer with the Winder Police Department that he had asked an unknown white male for directions. The complainant said the stranger then pulled a pistol out of his holster and responded, "No I don't have directions."

ya, and had it been a black guy showing a pistol... the media would make it: "an unknown male"

I've always noticed that the Chicago hobos are just the meanest too. In other places they'll ask for 90cents and just figure give him the whole buck, who cares. There they'll straight up say 'give me a buck' loudly and with attitude.

I don't have a problem with people who feel it necessary to bring their toys every place they go. But please understand that most of us don't live in a permanent game of "cops and robbers".

Keep that useless piece of metal in your pants. Adults have shiat to do and changing your diapers every time you feel "threatened" has become tiresome.

Oh, I was referring to the guy writing his book on kindness who got shot up in Montana. He was walking along the side of the road or somesuch.

He broke the Bro Code by asking. He should have his balls cut off, but his woman already has them.

Dude just didn't want to answer any questions. That's not a crime.

Ok well maybe the whole brandishing thing. But that's a misdemeanor. So there.
