I live in this county, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

El Paso county is like a Minor League baseball team with all the politicians wanting to be as corrupt as big city politicians, but without the rampant amount of kickbacks coming their way. Since most the county is hardcore Republican, they don't give a shiat when the right wing politicians are overtly corrupt.

We had one city official embezzle hundreds of thousands of dollars from the city, paid for porn with the city credit card, watched it on his work computer in the city capitol building, then left town to go start a NASCAR team in North Carolina. They prevented him from leaving the state and decided to hold him for questioning. After the brouhaha quieted down, he left town with the money and a snarky apology from North Carolina about his wrong doings.

gingerjet: keylock71: It's funny how the folks who believe it's a choice can never tell you when they chose to be "straight"...

I usually ask them if they held a party and did their mother cry when they made that choice. I never get an answer.

What would it be called? They're not really "Coming out of the closet"... "Coming out of the Turkish bath house", maybe?

Sounds like El Paso County/Colorado Springs to me. Hell, I remember back in the 1990s the town of Monument elected an actual anti-government militia leader to the state legislature (Charles Duke, I think?). Being a Democrat in that area is tantamount to treason.

May I safely presume that Will Perkins still wields tremendous influence over the populace?

Cythraul: LouDobbsAwaaaay: I don't understand how anybody can think being gay is a choice. Do you honestly think this guy thought to himself "Well, my sexual orientation is a totally arbitrary choice, but you know what? I'm going to choose to be gay and be hated by my family and community, and live as a second-class citizen. That's my choice."?

The enhanced fashion sense, perfect home gardens, and cooking so good, it'll finally settle the 'which is better, cake or pie?' argument make up for all of that.

Is that like Spidey Sense?

Don't have gay children, Marsha. Or should I say, since your ilk doesn't seem to believe in gnetic predisposition, stop raising your children to be gay.

Here's the Wikipedia article about the film. Basically it digs into the lives of a bunch of former American politicians who actively campaigned and legislated gainst gay rights while engaging in, ahem, extracurricular activities with other men. I don't remember which one, but at least one of the major targets of the film was recorded on audio calling into a party line asking for a cut and well-hung guy to meet him and have fun with him.

Will Perkins as in Perkins Motor Company for Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep? Perhaps, I don't get too involved personally with local politics, but I am brushing elbows weekly with local leaders from the Chamber to other non-profit foundations in town that direct the course of the local politics. There's a lot of minding my P's and Q's around here.

I miss Bob Telmosse, that guy rocked! FotF and New Life Church have more influence than many businessmen in town these days.

Reposted, for relevance:

Top Ten Reasons to Make Gay Marriage Illegal

01) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

02) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

03) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

04) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all like many of the principles on which this great country was founded; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

05) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of marriages like Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

06) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

07) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

08) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

09) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Leviticus 19:10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God.

Which seems to point to Yahweh being down with welfare and assisting folks in need.

Leviticus 19:14 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

Yahweh seems to be down with helping the handicapped too.

Leviticus 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the LORD.

So, apparently, lying and telling tales is not approved of, and that communities should stand together. Not just the pale people or the brown people, but all y'all's people...

Leviticus 19:17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

Guess wishing death and terribleness on your neighbors is out too. How many Democrats or Libertarians or Scientologist you think live in your neighborhoods?

Leviticus 19:18 Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

Gee. Love thy neighbor. Nor on the children of your people. Whuddathunkit? Not just hippy-dippy Jesus who put that one forward. Right there in Leviticus. The same book that doesn't like shrimp boils and poly-blends...

And, of course, there is something about immigrants that is completely ignored by the rabid Christian nationalists...

Leviticus 19:33 And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.

Leviticus 19:34 But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Does that mean we can end this ridiculousness about trying to repeal the 14th Amendment, since Leviticus was down with that sort of thing LONG before the Founding Fathers or Lincoln?

Or if we have to throw out Leviticus as being outdated, does this mean we can toss out the whole hating the gheys thing too?

You can almost hear the gears grinding and popping in the audience...

But other than that I agree with you.

It notes that Looper, during the House Appropriations Committee hearing on May 8, successfully amended Senate Bill 2 "to protect religious organizations and different kinds of counselors from harm for disagreeing with the civil unions provisions had it passed. (Praise God!)"

"God is truly to be praised for Marsha Looper because she also has a homosexual son," the e-mail reads.

1) Stop legislating religious beliefs.

I don't think she hates him. I don't think she loves him for who he is though. How is it love? She hates his sexuality, an integral part of who he is as a person. She loves the person she wishes he was.

Bullshiat on what? That it's genetic? Whether it is or not, I can tell you one thing is certain, I cannot make a choice to be straight. Sexuality is not a light switch.

I have not heard definitive evidence for either argument, but I would say that some can change their sexuality. Whether or not, this is all choice or biology remains uncertain. I do not fault those that may be subject to their genetics nor those that actively choose to seek the comforts of same-sex relationships.

I would argue that this falls into the nature and nurture argument.

Oh yes, kind of like the relatives who I saw at my brother's wedding for the first time since coming out and who were oh so nice to me but who I know continue to back all sorts of anti-gay groups. I know exactly what they think about gay people and how we're so dangerous that children should be kept from learning about our existence and we should be written out of history books, they made their views quite clear all of the times they flamed me on Facebook over stuff I posted before I came out, but for the sake of family harmony I've got to smile and nod. If it wouldn't upset my mom, I'd like to tell them that they might as well stop being nice to my face and when we all know what they really think.

I noticed that someone highlighted my words in red and excusing the fact that so much of my life and philosophy are missing and incomplete still does not mitigate the ultimate message to do for the least of my brethren. Dad, I mean I, in deity form watches you all as he, uh I, does the smallest sparrow, and I am saddened by the lack of humanity from so many. You are meant to spend your talents to make the household stronger. Blessed are you all whom are loved perfectly in imperfection. Welcome your lost brother and rejoice. I am just saying, without any chance of real efficacy here, that bigots, once they realize the extreme error in their ways, should end their own lives and make the world a better place.

So.. try again?

I wonder if she is a republican or a democrat.
I suppose I should RTFA. But I think I can reasonably guess which.

Fuggin Bizzy: coeyagi: Actually, if you read the f*cking thread, it was mentioned several times. That being said... regardless of whether or not she outed her son... SHE IS STILL A DUMB, BIGOTED coont.

If she gave a f*ck about her son and his life, she'd abandon her anti-gay stances... or maybe kill herself for being such a two-faced whore for saying she loves her son while actively pursuing ways to skullf*ck his life raw.

Oh, it's you. Hi coeyagi.

"Bigots should consider committing suicide," said the non-bigot, without any irony whatsoever.

Furthermore... are you upset that I called you out for being wrong in that you didn't read the thread and realize the issue of Looper not actually outing her son was covered prior to your snarky post? Dude, relax, and stop deflecting.

coeyagi: "I love you, son / daughter, but I don't want you to be happy because of some bullshiat in a book that some moron on a pulpit takes literally. I would like you to be happy, but I can't think for myself."

Now don't you feel silly?

Not at all, why would I?

People all around the world have strong religious beliefs, and live their lives accordingly. You disagree obviously as you want them dead. Either way, I have no clue what their relationship is like. I can still disagree with her stance on civil unions and think she loves her son.

HellRaisingHoosier: I in no way believe the Representative loves her own son. I believe she has a strong bond with him and cares for him, but I sense no love in her heart.

Because how could love flourish when there is so much hate and sadness.

In my personal experience with this type of cognative parental disonance, the parent says they love their child to convince themselves they're parenting well. These types of phrases aren't meant for the child but are what the parent uses to prove they're good parents.

coeyagi: Blame the admins who keep greening blatantly false headlines.
