Real wasabi does not keep well and is pricy if your lucky enough to get it. Most wasabi that americans have had is just dyed horseradish.

The wasabi goes good with the fish smell, kinda like eating sushi with the miso horny soup.

Was it because she smelled like fish?

MindStalker: Most wasabi is just horseradish and mustard though

No, it's not. It's Wasabia japonica, which is in the same family of plants as mustard and horseradish (Brassicaceae). If someone is selling you horseradish and mustard and calling it wasabi, slap them hard.

Maybe what he's referring to is that most of the wasabi in those little packets that you get with cheap sushi are in fact horseradish with green food coloring.

My sushi-ya knows I want the grated root, not the green mystery paste all the other gaijins get. Ask for it. If the restaurant doesn't have it, find another sushi place.

Boys and girls, he's an actor, not a chef.
And I kind of chuckle at the Kung Fu sound effects. Plus, he's not trying any "moves", he's just pointing, or moving his head. It's poking fun at Kung Fu movies, which I think is fine (because I've seen maybe one in my life, and think they're terrible).

/He's actually pretty self-deprecating other times I've seen him.

He didn't do too bad playing Eric Draven in the short lived The Crow series...but yeah, he's annoying as hell on Iron Chef.

Mark Alan Dacascos (born February 26, 1964) is an American actor and martial artist.[1] He won numerous karate and various styles of kung fu championships between the ages of 7 and 18.[2]

Beginning in January 2005, Dacascos has portrayed the Chairman on Food Network's television series Iron Chef America. This role was previously played by Takeshi Kaga in the original Japanese Iron Chef, and Dacascos' character is presented as Kaga's nephew, though the actors are not related.

In the US, most wasabi served is horseradish. It is uncommon to be served wasabi from the actual wasabi root, as it does not grow well domestically (I think maybe one place in portland has the right combination of factors)

Right before the text came in, they were driving home from a bar, she wasn't wearing pants, and he had enough wasabi to 'douse' a pair of jeans....

After the text at some point, she stumbled to his place without pants because she either got out of the car or he kicked her out and he went back and picked up her jeans off the side of the road...

/I know, she probably took the jeans off after he 'doused' them, but I like my version better.

This. I love sushi, and have it quite often--I think I've had real wasabi once, ever. Even in Japan it's a pain in the ass to find places that use the real stuff (it was also hard to tell since I've had it so few times, and rarely is anyone honest about what they're using).

Barnstable includes Hyannisport and several other pricey residential areas. Also, IIRC the population of Hyannis alone recently hit 50,000 which qualifies it as a small city.

I'm too lazy to read other replies. I'll just say that most sushi places just serve prepared horseradish (dyed green, mixed with whatever else to make it taste right). The times I've had real wasabi it wasn't such a bright green color.
