God what a mess. I feel that Democrats are wrong on most issues. I also feel that Republicans are wrong on ALL issues.

While I like Obama, he has been a bit of a disappointment with his cozying up to Wall Street and a few other things.

I've often wondered if politicians wouldn't get more advertising bang for their buck if they simply took that $20 million they had earmarked for attack ads and simply divided it between Goodwill, Salvation Army, Planned Parenthood, Wallaby Relocation Fund, and NASA.

Still, "not quite good enough" should warrant a different reaction than "cozied up." That implies no attempts to regulate, but in fact increasing their power. There's got to be a more accurate way to express that you think yet more needs be done.

I would love at a debate for each man to be given a list of items, and for them to fill out what they think it reasonably costs a consumer. Common things, like milk or eggs, maybe a pair of shoes, most definitely include a visit to the ER for something like a broken bone. What a farking retard... The only way to get out of a mess is to move FORWARD, you helmet-headed window licker...

Really Republicans? This moron was the BEST you could do? At least he'll be able to get better parking for his campaign bus than Obama will, not just the size, but the Handicap Tag is a real bonus in those crowded parking lots...

To be fair, Mitt has had a lot of time on his hands since he hasn't had a real job since he lost to McCain in the last Primary. Obama hasn't quite had the same time to glad hand and talk to near empty stadiums like Mitt, so I can see how the perception could develop that a sitting President who is busy with health care, trying to stop the nose dive the economy took during the last guy's term, getting Al Qaida's leadership in a tizzy, getting troops home, trying to get our military some equality on issues of marriage, and a dozen other things, might be seen as out of touch, since he has so much on his plate already. Maybe Mitt can get him to come on down and have a beer with some of the folks with him...

Oh, wait, that's right, Mitt doesn't drink...beer...

I would love at a debate for each man to be given a list of items, and for them to fill out what they think it reasonably costs a consumer. Common things, like milk or eggs, maybe a pair of shoes, most definitely include a visit to the ER for something like a broken bone. Just to see if either of them is 'in touch' or if they have any idea what a dollar is really worth.

That doesn't really prove anything though. Obama hasn't even been able to set foot in a grocery store since 2008. The only way he knows what anything like that costs are if someone types up a brief. Romney is beyond rich. Even if he ever does any significant amount of his own shopping, it's not like that wears on his budget. Both o fthem have insurance, so they probably have no idea how much a visit to an ER costs. Hell, I don't know what milk costs (don't drink it) or what a visit to the ER costs (never been). I don't even know what my Dr. costs (though I can guess that roughly, have seen the statements a few times). Just that my Co-pay is $25 in network for the visit.

One can reasonably argue that Kenobi won the encounter on the Death Star, anyhow. He delayed Vader and allowed them to escape, and his sacrifice was relatively meaningless since he knew how to become One With the Force

Or whatever they call being a Force-Ghost.

The Republicans have been pretty open that they'd rather move the country backwards. Every policy position they have merely undoes a law that's already been passed. They want to get rid of every single law Obama's passed, repeal Roe v Wade, and undo the New Deal.

In the Republican utopia, we'd go all the way back to the Articles of Confederation.

Frankly I don't see how "The economy is getting better, but not fast enough, so vote for me and I will put back in place the same policies that almost got us into a great depression." can win independents.

I have to go against the conventional wisdom and say that if Romney goes for social issues like gay marriage and abortions (the old stand bys) he would have a better chance in the long run of winning the election.

(One) of the differences of course is that Rev Wright didn't really say "Kill Whitey". But the Mormon church did say black people were cursed and unfit to be in their church when Romney was an adult practicing member.

Let me put it another way, I have some relatives that have crazy conspiracy theories or ideas about government (science/evolution is a plot to indoctrinate our kids, fema death camps etc...). I can tolerate that even accept their beliefs so that I can interact with them without actually sharing any of their beliefs. I have other relatives that are racist and hate certain races/religions. I have trouble even associating with them.

One group comes from a place of faith or beliefs I simply don't share, the other comes from hate, ignorance and intolerance that says something about the people who choose to be around them.

"And then of course his comments that the private sector is 'doing fine' at a time when instead you've seen growth of our economy below 2 percent for the first quarter, and you have about 15 percent of Americans out of work or stopped looking for work or underemployed," the Republican presidential candidate added. "The president is really out of touch with what's happening across America."

I'm sure Rmoney is wrong about the President's description of the economy.
Why would the President want anyone to think the economy is doing fine in an election year?

2012-06-12 05:35:55 PM
What's especially dumb about the whole "Forward" slogan is that it would be a decent enough slogan to use against an incumbent, but it's just not effective being used for an incumbent. Obama's been President for nearly four years, if he can't take the country "forward" in four years, why should anyone suspect that he's do any better in eight?

Obama's problem is that he won in 2008 because he was able to run as a transformational figure and independents bought that up. Now in 2012 he can't run on his record, so he has to go on the attack against Romney. But by doing that, he becomes just another conventional politician. He can't run on his best messages because the had four years to deliver both "hope" and "change" and he failed to bring either.

The Democrats' message will be to attack the Republicans and call them names. Look at how well that strategy played out in Wisconsin. Voters want adults in charge, not more childish politicians, and the sort of crap that gets licked up by Progressive and Tolerant Liberal Farkers® alienates anyone who doesn't spend their time sniffing the glue over at The Daily Kos.

"America is a land of immigrants. Legal immigration should focus on making it easier and simpler for willing workers to come here with a temporary work visa, pay taxes, contribute to society, and fill jobs as the market demands.

As the former governor of a southern border state, I know fences and walls do not keep out illegal immigrants. Real border security means knowing who is coming here and why.

With workable employer verification systems, smarter border enforcement, and common sense, a national problem can be turned into a national benefit."

"Screw You, I got Mine" is certainly an adult philosophy. Only the most immature among us think that "Sharing the responsibility for our society from which we benefit" is a valid idea.

"Sharing the responsibility for our society from which we benefit" is, to put it bluntly, meaningless drivel. That's the high-minded cover for what the Democratic Party actually wants: to forcibly redistribute wealth based on their social designs. To take from the "haves" and give to the "have nots."

The problem with that philosophy is that it's innately tyrannical. It presupposes that there's a class of people who have the moral right to determine what "too much" wealth is and have the moral right to take from others for the "common good."

And that's the central problem with all redistributionist systems of government from modern liberalism on one end of the spectrum to communism on the other -- once you give the state the power to redistribute wealth you've given it too much power. It doesn't matter why you think expanding government is a great idea or how noble and altruistic your intentions are, it is and always will be a profoundly bad idea.

The GOP ain't perfect, by any means, but over the long run we cannot solve our social, political, and economic problems with more government. We have to have smaller, more agile, more responsive, and more responsible government.

The future will be won by those societies who best unleash the creative energies of their people, and the future will be lost for those states that decide to expand the state at the expense of their people.

And that encapsulates what's wrong with the Democratic Party's view of government right there. Making government smaller?! They don't even get the concept. Making government responsive to the people? That's practically heresy.

It's not that hard - our Framers figured out a way to do it. You distribute authority to smaller units of government that are more responsive to local needs. You keep government in check with a system of coequal branches. You sharply and clearly delineate between legitimately federal concerns and everything else through a federal government of limited enumerated powers.

This stuff ain't rocket science, but it goes against the interest of those who want to amass political power for their own benefit.

Especially when you consider that any anti-Romney attack ads he comes up with would basically consist entirely of "Get a load of THIS guy!" along with clips from the GOP primaries with all the candidates saying "Romney sucks."

And since Romney cannot run on his record (because it consists of little more than Bain Capital, the beta version of ObamaCare and putting his dog on the roof), his only hope would be that his Super PACs can flood the airwaves enough that not a single Obama commercial can air.

Try reading a history book instead, maybe you'll learn something. Because your version of history bears little resemblance to what actually happened.

The increasing federalization and centralization of power is a relatively new phenomenon - especially in the US. And in case you haven't notice, it hasn't exactly work.

Go look at the poverty rate pre- and post-LBJ's Great Society. Notice something? Poverty dropped dramatically in the 1950s through the early 1960s. Then, after LBJ expanded the federal government's role poverty basically stayed flat, rising and falling not with federal spending, but with the state of the economy.

Do that for damn near every issue and what you find is that your much-vaunted centralization of power has a pretty shiatty track record.

To paraphrase Reagan, it's not that our liberal friends are ignorant, it's that they "know" so many things that just aren't true...

If you thought the global Great Recession was fun, then stock up on canned beans and ammo, and vote Romney; the global Great Depression will be a hoot and a half.

The whole f*cking planet is on the brink of economic collapse thanks to republicans, and republicans want you to give them the reins again because 0bama hasn't fixed all the problems that republicans caused. Well, when republicans stop sabotaging the recovery and contribute something that helps fix the problem (and their tax cuts for the super rich accomplished exactly squat, so that's out) THEN they can complain.

Oh, these people should be put back into the highest office. That's wise.

Republicans shouldn't control anything bigger than an automobile until they stand for something besides soulless powerlust.

GAT_00: cameroncrazy1984: AdolfOliverPanties: his cozying up to Wall Street

The Volcker and Buffett rules are "cozying up to Wall Street"?

Yes, Obama has just been brutal on Wall Street. *roll eyes*

He's been so easy on them, its impossible to tell what he'd do that a Republican wouldn't.

Don't roll your eyes like that, they'll stick that way.

At this point, what a Republican would do is ask how much more they want to be paid to be greedy and evil, and then take it straight out of a fund for widows and orphans.

I'm pretty sure we'd be f*cked if half a dozen federal agencies disappeared, major social services cut, and the states were given the "right" to discriminate against American citizens and defer to powerful religious interests.

Just to name a few. Maybe you should Google "Ron Paul" or "Gary Johnson" with the word "criticism" in the search string.

Also, as mentioned, I don't want dangerous drugs like heroin, crack, cocaine or meth to be readily available to anyone. They should REMAIN highly controlled substances.

He couldn't do that since of course the federal government, which is the type of government that Obama controls, is shrinking in size.

But...but.... but.... deficits! Yeah Wombat, um, that doesn't mean government has grown, Mr. Nobel Laureate in Economics.

You're arguing with a marsupial that is much lower on the evolutionary scale than us placental mammals. There's no way to show it that it's wrong, because it hasn't got the brains to understand what you're saying.

um...you DO realize that the Republicans are just as authoritarian as the Democrats, right? in fact they might even be MORE authoritarian than anyone else in government.

what I don't understand is why the GOP are upset with socialism. Bush was a socialist - he used public money to bail out private companies...which is the core principal of a socialist economy. Given the hero worship the Republicans have for the Bush family...you'd think socialism would be their goal, not their fear.

nah - the best part is when someone tries to say that there will never be any negative social/political consequences of allowing over 90% of all the wealth and political power to concentrate into the hands of 1% of the population. Or even better - when the compound such an asinine claim by saying that its the religious/spiritual duty of the 99% to STFU and accept poverty and the loss of their rights and never question the rich and powerful 1%. Because being greedy assholes is wonderful for the 1%, but poor people wanting a seat at the table is socialisms.

Their goals are to repeat talking points to hear what the opposition might say in response. It's just test marketing their propaganda for free. They know all the uneducated people will believe everything they say as the gospel.

In 2008 they could white wash the Bush administration and pick a handful of positives to run with. This time, they can't talk about records because that would bring up how their party made sure Obama could do almost nothing to help the economy.

The way I see it one of two things will come of this election - both good.

1) Obama will be defeated, Obamacare repealed, and government spending decreased.
2) Obama wins because Romney is smeared up and down, particularly for being a Mormon and the nation will have some spiritual clarity about what it is exactly that Mormons teach, and many souls will be saved from the deception of Mormonism.

win/win!

a lesson in Christianity? I'm a One True Churcher by upbringing. As a result, I know more than whatever nonsense you learned at Pentecostal Jesus Camp and Bob Jones U about what JC believed.

Jesus is far more upset about starving children than them homersexuals getting their homonuptials. Jesus is far less upset about taxes going to feed babies than he is about the recognition of gay marriage. Ergo, Christian Conservatives are morans.

Jake Havechek: A Romney administration is glorified Nazism.

Nah, not really; Romney's a Randian Republican, not a Christian Conservative Republican. Sure, he's willing to pay lip service to them, because he'd suck his own father's rotting corpse-balls if it earned him one extra vote, but it wouldn't last. Now, a Santorum or other Tea Party administration, abso-farking-lutely. I'm pretty sure that the Teabaggers consider Hitler to be a RINO.

Or because Obama's a socialist monster who is crushing the private sector and making sure that nobody can get a job? I just want to know what this week's talking point is.

They didn't have jobs because they were largely trust fund babies attending a college their parents are paying for getting a degree in "women's studies" or "film" or "art history" which will well prepare them for NOT getting a job in a field that's actually hiring, which would condemn them to a life of sucking off the government teat if (heaven forbid) their daddy's money ever runs out.

Well, you obviously don't get YOUR ideas from the Bible if your take on Christ's teachings was that he told you to help the poor and sacrifice your own resources AND not to let the government do it.

Guess you missed this one: (Mark 12:14)

14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it.

16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar's.

17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. And they marvelled at him.

But I still don't see what this has to do with turning government into a charity.

Despite me paying into it my entire life (making it a program entirely different from Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, WIC, etc.) I don't expect it to be there by the time I am old enough to collect it.

I expect this program to fail, as predicted, as Bush warned when he tried to reform it during his presidency and the do-nothing party-of-no Democrats gave a standing ovation to the idea of NOT fixing social security (way to go, guys?)

So I have saved for my own retirement, privately.

Do you honestly believe it is the primary job of the government to support aging and poor individuals? This is where I think the great divide is between Republicans and Democrats.

I am of the opinion it is the family's primary responsibility (immediate & then extended) followed by the Church, followed by private charities.... the government is notoriously horrible at wasting money, being callous and inappropriately spending funds which they collect from private individuals under threat of imprisonment and then redistribute based on the most asinine schemes...

so what happens if instead of spending a couple trillion on blowing the shiat outta some desert somewhere, we cut back on military spending. Then we legalize cannabis, and use the money saved from there AND the money we save from not blowing up the desert anymore to make health care more affordable for everyone who makes less than $150k a year?

seems like a reasonable plan, don't you think?

This is such a pile of shiat. Go look at the early 1900's and you can see just how the poor lived before people decided the government should actually improve the lives of the destitute. See exactly how far the church and private charities went.

the military budget for 2011 was in the neighborhood of $663.84 billion. the war on drugs was somewhere north of $24 billion. the most horrible, politically divisive and worst case cost for Obama's health care plan is LESS than $100 billion.

I just think it's really odd for a group of people to claim they are christians and then advocate spending SIX TIMES more on killing people than they do on helping the sick and poor. Christ was pretty clear on the whole 'forgive and forget'/non-violence thing, not to mention He commanded his followers to take care of the sick and poor. While I think we can quibble on the nuts and bolts of budget spending, one thing that a christian CANNOT defend is massive military spending taking priority over helping sick and poor people.

What's really interesting about this chart to me? It shows spending exploding in the periods 1980-1992, and again in 2000-2008. It also shows a huge decline (at least in rate) during 1992-2000, and again in 2008-now. What was is about those periods? Why was the government spending wildly out of control at one time, and showing remarkable restraint in others?

(and the graph also assumes we'll go Full Reagan starting in 2013.... after four years of thrift.....)

Meh, simple solution. Objectivism evolved! Seriously, half of the evangelical churches preach faith in Jesus as a means to getting wealthy. The rod and the staff are no longer just good for a laugh! Follow the path of Jesus and you'll reap what you sow!

I honestly don't know how the cognitive dissonance doesn't explode in some sort of bukkake-inspired goo of ignorance all over their faces. It's god damn spiritual welfare and socialism- Jesus provides, and you don't have to do shiat but ride your hoverround around town!

If you can't read the Bible in it's 'original' Greek, you might as well make up shiat on the sly.

But seriously, pastors are and always have been the worst people to interpret the Bible for the masses. Most of them don't know how to plunge their back-upped sinks, let alone put the Bible in it's proper context. The primary job of a pastor is to raise money for the church. Want to learn the Bible? Look for a historian with a copy written in Greek.

Coelacanth: gimmegimme: Wait a minute...are you saying that every "holy" book is made up?

If you can't read the Bible in it's 'original' Greek, you might as well make up shiat on the sly.

But seriously, pastors are and always have been the worst people to interpret the Bible for the masses. Most of them don't know how to plunge their back-upped sinks, let alone put the Bible in it's proper context. The primary job of a pastor is to raise money for the church. Want to learn the Bible? Look for a historian with a copy written in Greek.

Sooo...did Jesus really tell slaves to be acquiescent? Are fathers really ordered to sell their raped daughters to the men who raped them? Did Yahweh really kill all but one family because they used the free will he gave them?

Maybe I've been reading it all wrong...

No. It captured pretty much what voters were thinking, that we were sick of Bush's failures and wanted a better attitude in Washington. Which we got.

Long face? Is this some sort of projection? Obama is going to win hand over fist next November.

And it takes a really myopic personage not to realize that Bush f*cked this country and we're going to be paying for it FOR decades. Obama did his best to instill both hope and change, and for many of us, we are grateful for this administration's accomplishments.

You're the one going to be whining when we overwhelmingly re-elect him, I'm satisfied with the job he's done.

Dooku Beat Anakin in Ep. 2, so I'm not sure the comparison works =^D
I think the lesson there is, Anakin Skywalker sucks.

And Obi-Wan beat Darth Vader, not Anakin Skywalker. Then Vader beat Obi-Wan years later.

What's lost in all this is that Mace Windu got knocked out a farking window.

And, had Palpatine at his mercy.

Beat the most bad-ass Sith the universe had ever known.

QU!RK1019: As if there was a single possible slogan within the entire lexicon of human speech that Republicans wouldn't deride...

"I'm a shiatty president. Vote for the Other Guy with an R next to his name (c)"

"
Obama 2012.
Onerous, Black, Anti-Marriage "American"
"

Some trials. I'm not sure you're wrong. But the entire lexicon of human speech is a deep trough, rich with mean things to say about minorities.

Aldon: Frankly I don't see how "The economy is getting better, but not fast enough, so vote for me and I will put back in place the same policies that almost got us into a great depression." can win independents.

I have to go against the conventional wisdom and say that if Romney goes for social issues like gay marriage and abortions (the old stand bys) he would have a better chance in the long run of winning the election.

An independent I work with hates "Obama's high inflation" and thinks inflation should be "set at zero".

people are farking morons, and there isn't much to be done about it. I wish they weren't succeeding in lowering education for the next generation though.

I've noticed something. When I see a comment that's full of spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors; duplicated or missing words; or just syntax that makes me go 'What is he even trying to say here? That makes no sense." 99% of the time the poster is a Republican, conservative, Libertarian and/or teabagger. Kind of says something about their base membership, donut?

/Real salt of the earth types.
//You know: morons.

whidbey: Says the guy who supporting a right-winger who wants to balance the federal budget "immediately" and wants boots on the ground to deal with the immigration question.

As a smug, sneering Lib, I have no problem with either of these two things.

Yep, I found that one while dragging myself through the mire of another thread he'd oozed in, and I was just totally WTBBQ'dF all over the place.
