FrailChild: coeyagi: Ok, guess we can take away your social security then. Good to know!

Despite me paying into it my entire life (making it a program entirely different from Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, WIC, etc.) I don't expect it to be there by the time I am old enough to collect it.

I expect this program to fail, as predicted, as Bush warned when he tried to reform it during his presidency and the do-nothing party-of-no Democrats gave a standing ovation to the idea of NOT fixing social security (way to go, guys?)

So I have saved for my own retirement, privately.

I sunk all my money into Betamax. There's still hope right?

Seems like a cogent argument for not wanting to exercise your first amendment rights. Jesus, you are contending for winterwhile with your Jack Handy quips.

So that's it. It's all about challengers appearing to fill the void left by their fallen Derp Gods.

They are all going to come out from retirement in some unbridled chorus of derp around October 15th. Their greatest hits CD to be released then....

Track 1: Soshulizm Alinskyism Is Sodomizing the Country
Track 2: Whar Birf Certificate Whar
Track 3: Best Part... (Part 1)
Track 4: 3 million jobs... (Part 2)
Track 5: lost... FOREVAR! (Part 3)
Track 6: Dem-o-rats are lying LIBS!
Track 7: 5 trillion in debt increase (or how I learned to forget Bush's 2009 budget and learn to live to lie about Darkey)
Track 8: 2 years of control of congress (or how I learned to forget the Senate had a filibuster proof majority for but a fraction of that)
Track 9: Grey Poooooopon
Track 10: GITMO Blues

Good for you. What about those who don't make enough to save? fark em? Poor houses? Group homes?

Do you honestly believe it is the primary job of the government to support aging and poor individuals? This is where I think the great divide is between Republicans and Democrats.

I am of the opinion it is the family's primary responsibility (immediate & then extended) followed by the Church, followed by private charities.... the government is notoriously horrible at wasting money, being callous and inappropriately spending funds which they collect from private individuals under threat of imprisonment and then redistribute based on the most asinine schemes...

so what happens if instead of spending a couple trillion on blowing the shiat outta some desert somewhere, we cut back on military spending. Then we legalize cannabis, and use the money saved from there AND the money we save from not blowing up the desert anymore to make health care more affordable for everyone who makes less than $150k a year?

seems like a reasonable plan, don't you think?

This is such a pile of shiat. Go look at the early 1900's and you can see just how the poor lived before people decided the government should actually improve the lives of the destitute. See exactly how far the church and private charities went.

the military budget for 2011 was in the neighborhood of $663.84 billion. the war on drugs was somewhere north of $24 billion. the most horrible, politically divisive and worst case cost for Obama's health care plan is LESS than $100 billion.

so we're spending SIX TIMES MORE to kill people and break stuff than we are helping people get healthy and stay that way. that seem right to you?

I just think it's really odd for a group of people to claim they are christians and then advocate spending SIX TIMES more on killing people than they do on helping the sick and poor. Christ was pretty clear on the whole 'forgive and forget'/non-violence thing, not to mention He commanded his followers to take care of the sick and poor. While I think we can quibble on the nuts and bolts of budget spending, one thing that a christian CANNOT defend is massive military spending taking priority over helping sick and poor people.

What's really interesting about this chart to me? It shows spending exploding in the periods 1980-1992, and again in 2000-2008. It also shows a huge decline (at least in rate) during 1992-2000, and again in 2008-now. What was is about those periods? Why was the government spending wildly out of control at one time, and showing remarkable restraint in others?

(and the graph also assumes we'll go Full Reagan starting in 2013.... after four years of thrift.....)

Here's another problem for pro-corporate christians - Ayn Rand and her ideology are extremely hostile to a christian lifestyle. so they cannot use ANY of Rand's ideas in their plans for governing the country. Not without repudiating Christianity anyways....and that's the sort of thing that gets you excommunicated.

ah, but it DOES apply to them! you can't set one rule for rich people and then a completely different (and more restrictive) set of rules for everyone else. oh, well - you CAN but nobody will vote for you anymore afterwards. even lying to voters only works for so long. eventually everyone figures out you're just stealing 'em blind and then kicks you in the yambag and goes vote for the other guy(s).

Meh, simple solution. Objectivism evolved! Seriously, half of the evangelical churches preach faith in Jesus as a means to getting wealthy. The rod and the staff are no longer just good for a laugh! Follow the path of Jesus and you'll reap what you sow!

I honestly don't know how the cognitive dissonance doesn't explode in some sort of bukkake-inspired goo of ignorance all over their faces. It's god damn spiritual welfare and socialism- Jesus provides, and you don't have to do shiat but ride your hoverround around town!

But seriously, pastors are and always have been the worst people to interpret the Bible for the masses. Most of them don't know how to plunge their back-upped sinks, let alone put the Bible in it's proper context. The primary job of a pastor is to raise money for the church. Want to learn the Bible? Look for a historian with a copy written in Greek.
