Billy who? Wait, the pumpkin head guy?

Billy, you pompous prick. Don't you have a bandmate's track to micromanage and re-record?

kingoomieiii: Billy, you pompous prick. Don't you have a bandmate's track to micromanage and re-record?

By the way, the answer is no, because he's spent the twilight years of his career driving away people who 'compromise his vision.' Which is everyone.

2012-06-12 11:04:45 AM
He still insists on calling the band 'Smashing' without Jimmy Chamberlin on the skins?

Washed up 90s guitarist is jealous that another guitarist from the 90s is still relevant.

Film at 11.

It's interesting he would pick as his benchmark Ritchie Blackmore, another insufferable douche who drove everyone away.

Other than that I see zero basis for the comparison he is trying to make.

90's douchebag cat fight!

I don't feel qualified to discuss the musicianship of either party involved, because admittedly I've never listened to much in the way of Smashing Pumpkins or Radiohead.

But in this article, Billy Corgan compared himself to one "Weird Al" Yankovic.

No. Just no. Fark you, Billy.

Smashing Pumpkins are REO Speedwagon (stylistically appropriate for the current college party scene, but ultimately insignificant)

Go back to the 90s, douchebag!

/Bought the first 2 CDs and liked them, then Corgan insulted us in the audience who bought tickets to see his band, have not listened to the Pumpkins since.

2012-06-12 01:12:21 PM
The Smashing Pumpkins were never good. His voice is like the male version of Fran Drescher. Go do the play-by-play for the cubs like a good like farker.

It is almost like Billy has something to promote right now and needs to make some headlines.

Listen to what they play, not to what they say.

I grew up during the whole grunge thing, and he wrote some decent songs but is a pompous idiot. When I saw them live years ago he was terrible. He seemed to be able to play decently (not great but passable) or sing but he couldn't do both at the same time. When he was singing and playing either one or the other was crap. Also people were moshing and crowd surfing to some of the heavier stuff and he got all uppity about it and tried to tell people to stop. If I were him I would be glad people showed up to listen to my crappy music and not try to micromanage what each person in the crowd was doing. He seemed to have an ego problem

/still don't mind a few of their songs. Disarm is really good.

I guess I'd be pissed too if I saw another 90's band that is still relevant today, and I am not. But he's reaching Morrissey level doucheiness at this point.

2012-06-12 01:34:47 PM
Pompous jerk that he is Billy Corgan is still a better guitarist than Jonny Greenwood.

Greenwood is overrated. He's 90% reverb.

2012-06-12 01:36:35 PM
I don't think Radiohead has made a really good album in over a decade. That said, Jonny Greenwood is an extremely talented guitarist.

2012-06-12 01:39:49 PM
From my point of view...I didn't even know the guitarist's name until now. I have never seen any Farker rave or recommend this guitarist in any of the "guitar god" threads....so how can he be over rated...he doesn't even seem rated.

But as said, get some publicity so we know about your most likely sh*tty album coming out.

I will check it out...but I have absolutely no expectations of liking it.

/but some old pumpkins still sound good...in single song doses every couple months.

hahahah of course...the post before my post gives him praise.

just perfect.

I'm glad Billy Corgan is making a stand against pompous rock stars.

"The first physical EP, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs for a Sailor, consisting of a wooden box with the 4-song CD, a 7" vinyl record with one additional song, and a hand-carved stone obelisk, was released May 25 by Rocket Science Music.[3][4] The second, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, Vol. 2: The Solstice Bare, was released on November 23, 2010 in the form of a cardboard box with the 4-song CD in a letterpressed sleeve and a 12" vinyl picture disc with all four EP tracks and a b-side.[23] Two more tracks, "Lightning Strikes" and "Owata", were released as downloads but have not, as of yet, been released as a physical product."

Billy is an amazing guitarist. LIke Prince, you don't hear it on the records... you have to see it live. Now, he doesn't help his cause by being overbearing. He knows that, you know that. Dude is speaking his mind. Same EXACT thing all of you are doing in every thread. The diff being that the Associated Press doesn't pick up your comments.

I think Siamese Dream is a five star masterpiece. Now, it came into my life at 18 years old... just when you need BIlly's music. I am sure if you played it for me now it wouldn't do much... but for it's time, and my time, BIlly Corgan is a master.

I like his music so much that I bought his shiatty poetry book just so I could meet the man.

carry on...

2012-06-12 01:48:11 PM
Well, let's break it down:

Debut Album:
Gish > Pablo Honey (Aside from "Creep", that album sucks)
WINNER: Pumpkins

Glory Days:
Siamese Dream > The Bends (I love The Bends, but SD is the shiat)
MCATIS =/= OK Computer (Can't pick)
WINNER (by a nose, but still): Pumpkins

The weird "album of experimental s**t to ptove that we're serious artists that nobody liked even though pretentious douchebags pretend to" phase:
Adore > Kid A (Adore wasn't great, but Kid A was a joke)

WINNER: Pumpkins

The "OK, we got it out of our system and we're going to do the stuff you used to like but we kinda forgot how so it won't be as good" phase:

Machina =/= In Rainbows (Both back to 'normal' but not quite right)
WINNER: nobody. Once you release the 'weird' album it's all over.

Pumkins win 3-0. So maybe Billy has a Point,

I was just listening to MCATIS in the car for a couple hours yesterday. There's a lot of good music on those two CD's. Kind of a lot to digest all at once, but I wish I had something like that to show for my 30-plus years on this planet.

His vision sucks too, cannot stand that band. And the radio around here loves to play them. Every time they do, I immediately change the station.

I disagree with your opinion.

Gish > PH (Agreed)
Siamese Dream MCATIS Adore Machina =/= In Rainbows (I love In rainbows and haven't heard Machina, so I'll defer here)

I'm scoring it 3-1-1 for RH. I'll wait for one of the Pacquiao/Bradley judges to come in with the final verdict.

Plus, Radiohead is a band you can actually listen to live, unlike the Pumpkins.

2012-06-12 02:19:36 PM
I didn't know the Radiohead's guitarist was even "rated", as I thought they were best known for 10 minute droning songs about how their mommy didn't hug them enough as a child and/or how shallow consumerist culture makes them sick (please pick up your tickets for $85 plus surcharges at Ticketmaster.com). Did a quick Youtube search for some of his guitar solos it sounds like a real life "shred" parody. If he's held in any esteem or high regard then Corgan is likely correct.

This.

But really, all the proof that Corgan is the superior guitarist is in the fact that he played lead guitar on Geek U.S.A. and Soma, and Jonny Greenwood didn't.

2012-06-12 02:29:21 PM
One spin through Pisces Iscariot and Billy's guitar god cred is established. There's more guitar flash and subtlety in that disc than there is in the entire Radiohead catalog.

SD, Gish, MCIS and Adore just add to the awesomeness.

/ Still think he's a pretentious douche, but you can't discount his musical chops.

I was trying to find his quote about the Pixies, and I came across this small collection of Steve's musings on landmark albums he produced. I lol'd at a lot of these...maybe you will, too!!

Radiohead has two good songs: Creep and Karma Police, neither of which would make the B-Side cut of Siamese Dream.
