Just like in the books/show, it seems like the only winning move in the board game is to not play at all.

/video could've had more potential
//thimble joke made me laugh

I noticed a disturbing lack of doggy style in the board game.

So its only slightly less involved than Talisman?

Cracked has their own videos now? Is this some growing thing in websites where at some point they must launch some hackish video/tv channel? It needs a name, like Jumping the Shark or 'Did you see Cracked finally had a Cuervo Moment?'

Wha? I would have accepted "Agricola", "Warhammer", or any classic Avalon Hill game... Talisman is about as simple as a game gets.

They've been putting out videos for a couple years now. This one wasn't amazing, but most anything with Swaim is usually guaranteed to be funny.

So it's like Sid Meier's Civilization the boardgame?

And Talisman was slightly less involved than not drooling on yourself...

Slight point of clarification, for my group a typical game of Talisman ran for 10+ hours due to the nature of how we played. We had a room set aside for our games when they spanned multiple days of playing.

I've played Avalon Hill, War Hammer, D&D and several other games and systems over the years. and none of them had the investment in time as Talisman had.

/Record was 74 hours for one game of Talisman
//Lost because of one craft
/// Good times, but too much an inside joke it seems.

I love Second Edition, but the newest one allows for craft improvement by turning in craft monsters.
I, personally, liked the old version better... but only slightly. Also, the new one is starting to suffer from power inflation. The new classes are stupid strong (Sprite, I am looking at you).

Sprite ALWAYS has two spells ..and that is just silly ...you manage to piss off ALL of the other players. Keeping spells for any reason is just dumb, you just cast em off as fast as you can.

FTFY

/WoWtBG with the two expansions will run you 6-8 hours for a 2 player game. A full 6 player game takes days.
//Not to be confused with the vastly inferior World of Warcraft: The Adventure Game

Sigh. I can't believe nobody has posted this yet. There really is a Game of Thrones board game. It predates the TV Show even.

It's a lot of fun too. I've only played it twice but each time it was full of cutthroat action. We never finished the second game because we got too drunk, but the first game I barely won on the third (and extremely rare) tiebreaker.

It is really fun but i prefer the Battle of Westeros game. It works better with 2 players.

I'm kind of torn on whether or not to get Battles of Westeros. I already have BattleLore, which I love, so I know I would like it, but if it's too similar to BattleLore I can't really justify spending $60+ on something I essentially already have.

We saw that game at a friend's house once and decided we should play it.... after starting to read the rulebook and trying to sort hundreds of game pieces we quickly gave up.

Yeah, I'll give you that. I love the game, but it does take 30-45 minutes to get setup.

They are some differences that they talk about them here. If you aren't a huge Game of Thrones fan and already have battle lore I don't really think it is worth it.

Thank you for that link. From what I'm reading, there's enough differences to make it an interesting departure from BattleLore, but not enough to make it worth the money to me.

I have no idea how yours takes days. We've done full 6 players in my gaming group, and finish in under 5 hours, including setup.

Now if you want a game that can take days, you need you some Twilight Imperium! The set-up alone can take upwards of 45 min and is part of the game itself so you can't set up the board in advance. Still fun as hell, though.

No need to feel bad. "Shoots and Ladders" was the inner-city version back in the 70s. It's been dropped now, since it wasn't PC by today's standards.

They've had multiple surprisingly high budget and well acted video series for years. One particular series (After Hours) is one of the most reliably funny things on the internet.

Also, the real Game of Thrones boardgame is unbelievably fun. And as painful as a faceful of molten metal when you get within one castle of victory and all five other players immediately put aside their differences to stomp on you.

This. "After Hours" has caused many laughs.
