CheatCommando: lewismarktwo: All the comics he listed as stolen are now removed... I hope he documented some of those... might have been a bad move.

Yeah, because swearing under oath that you didn't pull them out after the announcement is going to go over real well in a court. As soon as they bring up the Wayback, or even better subpoena the server backups from his ISP (at his expense) during discovery, the perjury and contempt charges will rain down like the fist of an angry god.

No, the discovery will likely be paid for by theOatmeal FIRST. And electronic discovery can be (not in this circumstance, but certainly with multiple databases) very expensive. FunnyJunk would pay for it later.

hockeychick: But it's not a suit. It's a threat of a suit, unless The Oatmeal pulls all references of funnyjunk AND pays $20,000. There is no suit at this time.

Ah. Missed that.

Dear Dabble Tech:

I am [not] a lawyer [not] representing AT&T. You have used our copper cables to transmit a joke. We demand a share of the proceeds. Send $20,000 by Western Union tomorrow morning or you will be wedgied in front of a Federal Court Building.

Sincerely,
[Not] Funny Junk's Lawyer.

Good luck.

Based on what we've seen so far, do you think Inman would actually have to pay out of pocket for anything?

No. His fans would likely donate to cover the bill.

Why would they do that? Because fark funnyjunk, that's why.

AngryJailhouseFistfark: hbomb1129: That is some really hilarious work on The Oatmeal. Faved for seconds and thirds

New total $113,457. Well played.

Which is all well and good but if the FunnyJunk lawyer filed a case against Oatmeal and Oatmeal doesn't respond, he loses. The Judge doesn't just say, "FunnyJunk's a prick and it's obvious that The People just adore The Oatmeal so I'll ignore the fact that he failed to respond to the complaint and dismiss the whole thing."

Huh? Any Jailhouse/Internet Lawyers care to comment?

He DIDN'T file a complaint, he sent a deamnd letter carefully worded to seem like he's filed a compalint. Old shyster trick

Also, according to the article I read today, he did respond conventionally with a lawyer. Link

I like how FJ's lawyer tried to direct attention to the internet reaction rather than explain how FJ is in the right.

"Mr FunnyJunk is lucky not to be on the wrong end of a santorum-grade Google Bomb."

This might happen sooner than you think.

Snarfangel: The GayRoller halfway down the page made me laugh.

Haha, yeah the GayRoller is awesome. :) Actually, that whole comic is pretty great (one of my friends and I now say "I possess your spine, bro!" on a regular basis). Gotta love The Oatmeal. :)
