It's funny because Fred Durst has always looked like a douchebag.

2012-06-11 09:37:27 AM
And apparently, Steven Tyler was The Joker.

Excuse me, Maynard was never a 'nerd.' Maynard was always the epitome of absolute cool and awesomeness.

Who is this "Marilyn Manson" guy? Where's Brian Warner?

2012-06-11 10:04:32 AM
WTF is wrong with Steven Tylers head?

2012-06-11 10:06:43 AM
farked?

2012-06-11 10:08:30 AM
Subby, these guys became rock stars as a direct result of being dorks. They weren't getting laid for their looks, so they had to find a way to get chicks' attention, and in their case, their way was picking up a guitar.

2012-06-11 10:10:48 AM
FARK'd for me.

RexTalionis: And apparently, Steven Tyler was The Joker.

He looked even more like the Joker then than he does now.

2012-06-11 10:13:31 AM
Really subby? You don't think any of the "guy with long scraggly hair who loves pot" looks couldn't become rock stars? If this were a series of photos of nerds with pocket protectors in a chem lab, you'd have a point.

You might have to magnify the skinny strip on the left side of the browser window in order to see anything.

/LMAO Jon Bon Jovi

Mike Patton looks like he could count to potato.

Maybe subby can't tell who was going to be a rock star by these photos, but anyone who was around these guys at the time these were taken knew several of them were going to do something HUGE. You can tell just by LOOKING at these dudes:

Eddie Van Halen
James Hetfield
Randy Rhoads
Slash
Dimebag
Kirk Hammett
Zakk Wylde

These guys were "those kids who are always playing guitar", and they all kicked major ass THEN. They were the ones who were playing all the parties and clubs, and blowing people away when they were 13 years old. Today, that's not such a big deal. Back then, to be playing at such a high level was unheard of.

I never saw Hetfield in that lens but you can tell from the picture that far from being a dork, he was a biatchin' dude.

I like that Kirk Hammet actually got an extra little (haha). I'd say he winds this round.

I don't know, but hes got a little Eli Manning in him there

James Hetfield looks exactly like he did in the early Metallica pictures. That's just what metalheads looked like.

The Patton one cracks me up. As does the Danzig one.

Man, Kurt Cobain just looks flat out wholesome in that pic.

Eddie Van Halen = Joseph Gribble/Redcorn. Cannot be unseen.

Kirk Hammet was a black chick in high school?

Seems kinda pale for Joseph Gribble. Take Kirk Hammet's glasses away and he looks exactly like I imagined a live action Joseph Gribble to look like.

They mostly look like early 80's stoners to me. Comb with a handle sticking out of their back pocket and riding a 10 speed with the handle bars turned up.

And apparently Saul Hudson led a double life as Slash AND El DeBarge in the eighties. My hat's off to your masterful turn at subterfuge, sir.

i read a quote from slash about being both black and british in the american metal scene...even though i know he's half black and originally from england i just never even think of anything but long curly hair covering 90% of his face with a top hat sticking up, and incredible guitar playing...and an animated role on a much-too-short-lived cartoon "kid notorious".

thanks to your comment i now also think of his singing r&b-pop hits in the mid-80s

Also, if I can get "Who's Johnny?" stuck in your head on a never-ending loop today, I will have considered my job done.
