No kidding. For that kind of money, I can buy a full-on officially licensed Star Trek 3-D chess set.

Given that it takes a week to make each set, and it's probably $25 in materials... he's pulling in maybe $12-24 an hour depending on how long it takes. Not all that bad, especially since he has to spend time and gas collecting the used spark plugs.

If you were a chess collector and wanted something for your collection which your fellow chess collectors wouldn't have, $275 seems fair. Besides, they may like the bathos of the blue-collar materials meeting the ultimate "smart people" game.

Working in the spark plug industry i checked to see the brand he was using. Those plugs dont have motorcraft/autolite or AC rings so this article has no relevance to me.

Why not? He's trying to sell the sets. Don't imagine they have a big problem with chess set rustling in Helena.

King jumps queen

If by "sweet" you mean "retarded". Look at the queen. Shouldn't she have something like a crown impression to her top, instead of some bulbous, nebulous nothingness?

I have an idea for chess-set...randomly shaped rocks. Bargain price of $269.

They look ill balanced and likely to fall over -knocking other pieces out of position. My $12 triple weighted set would work better.

Why did I read this as Swiss cheese set?

Which is probably a good thing. Just got done changing the plugs in my Ford 3v over the weekend, and I got to experience the joy of having one snap off down in the head. I'm told they've been redesigned now so it won't happen again, guess I'll find out in another 100,000 miles

That's very post-apocalyptic of him. Too expensive, though.

Yeah, I'm kinda at a stalemate with this. Do I take the gambit and get a set, or will I just end up pawning it later. I could leave it in my breakfast rook, but some queen Bishop might capture it in the knight. And as the king of my castle, I think it looks a little en passe.

Why the hell did I post this? I'm becoming some sort of AW.

I wonder if he can make a full Jetan set?

But will it go up in value like my franklin mint chess set?

StrangeQ: Just got done changing the plugs in my Ford 3v over the weekend, and I got to experience the joy of having one snap off down in the head...

Years ago I always changed my own plugs, but the newer 100K wonders scare me--I just paid the dealer to take care of it. It hurt a bit to write the check, but I'm happy to have avoided the downside.

/If the Montana guy in TFA can get $275 for these, more power to him!

It seemed more relevant once I Tineye-ed a version that was actually legible. ;)
