Apos: They think they're real slick, don't they?
mikemoto: Simpsons did it Link
prince of peas: What happened to $400? They can't make $400?
Ambivalence: I'm thinking biodiesel bootleggers. With the price of diesel at the pump, is it any wonder they'd resort to stealing cooking oil?If not biodiesel, why would anyone get that much money for used cooking grease?
ultraholland: Grease me up, woman!
clivecusslerfan: We've started having this problem crop up in St. Louis, too. It's all about the biodiesel. The funny thing is that the thieves can be charged with a felony if they get more than a certain amount. It's on private property and not in an unsecured dumpster, so it is theft.
herrDrFarkenstein: Grease is big money. DNRTFA.
prince of peas: "It's an easy way to make a buck," Gunderson said. "They can walk out with $200, $300 or $500 worth of material."What happened to $400? They can't make $400?

It's on private property and not in an unsecured dumpster, so it is theft.I'm not sure why that's funny, it's the restaurants property, which they sell for a profit. What I find funny is that restaurants used to have to pay to have used cooking grease hauled away. The companies that took it were making money on both ends; they'd charge the restaurants to take it away, then filter it and refine it and sell it where it would eventually end up back at the same restaurants. Now it's all going towards biodiesel. I wonder what happened to those companies.
emersonbiggins: 27 posts in and no one mentions that Simpsons episode where Homer and Bart steals Willy's retirement grease from the cafeteria during a school dance? You know, the one guest starring Lisa Kudrow as the new girl in Lisa's class?Really?Fark, you are slipping.
theorellior: I understand that the people who deal with used grease are like unto the Mafia in the way they deal with competition. I used to talk with some biodiesel people in Austin a while back, they said it was getting harder to get restaurants who would sell it to them because "the grease guys" would get all hot and bothered.
wademh: [www.dvdreview.com image 220x125]dated? obscure?
FreakinB: I was in California on vacation recently. I was eating at some Thai place when a guy came in asking for the owner, saying that he would pay for their used grease. I was wondering why and now I know.
