Gay marriage will be the subject of several ballot measures in November's election

Really? There's nothing more important going on?

Oh man the tolerant, loving, so much in the majority Christians are just going to savage her, which sucks because I have respect for anyone who can manage to sing Alone properly. Plus that one song about her farking up the BF's car is pretty funny.

2012-06-10 09:32:15 PM
Given where she came from, this is pretty gutsy.

Just in case people forgot about 2003.
So what on earth are they going to do with a willful kid like Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks? Maines, a native of Lubbock, Texas, got herself into trouble last week when she told a London audience, "Just so you know, we're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas." The London papers barely blinked an eye, but the American media caught on fast. A Nashville radio station was deluged with phone calls on Thursday, some of those callers demanding a boycott of the Dixie Chicks' music. Two radio stations in Dallas reportedly stopped playing Dixie Chicks' music - for that day, at least. (The group's latest LP, "Home," took three Grammys last month and has been lodged firmly in the No. 1 slot on the Billboard country charts for the past 28 weeks.)

Maines didn't even rush to clean up the damage. "I feel the president is ignoring the opinion of many in the U.S. and alienating the rest of the world," she said on Thursday. "My comments were made in frustration, and one of the privileges of being an American is you are free to voice your own point of view."

Apparently that's not a privilege afforded to Grammy-winning singers with top-10 records. By Friday the suits at Sony, the group's record label, must have gotten to Maines. In a "Manchurian Candidate" style "I hear and I obey" statement - the sort of thing you might hear from someone with electrodes affixed to her temples - she said, "As a concerned American citizen, I apologize to President Bush because my remark was disrespectful. I feel that whoever holds that office should be treated with the utmost respect."

Think about the GOP distancing of Bush and the accepted criticism of the presidency by the "right" during the present day.

Mentat: Given where she came from, this is pretty gutsy.

Kinda sucks hockey season is over. Getting booed at a Preds game could have given a reference point to how much this pissed people off.

For those who don't know, her husband is Preds forward Mike Fisher.

it's how republicans focus on jobs. by stripping rights from a group of americans.

Aside from the seeming silliness of it all, people CAN think about more than one thing at a time.

It's an issue to get the conservative base out to the polls.

Dolly Parton is a gay icon. Carrie Underwood not so much but well...

They'll get over it.

2012-06-10 10:34:10 PM
Is that Dixie Chicks or chicks without dicks?

2012-06-10 10:37:23 PM
I would support Carrie Underwood's marriage to an equally hot chick.

2012-06-10 10:37:26 PM
Since nobody has pointed it out yet, I'd like to take the opportunity to remind the class that Carrie Underwood is goddamn gorgeous.

Carrie Underwood goes full Dixie Chicks

She got fat and biatchy?

2012-06-10 10:45:57 PM
She's blond, so it's not like she's smart or anything.

/regardless, I'd still do her, in a hetrosexual way of course.

2012-06-10 10:50:14 PM
Shut up and sing!

Actually I wouldn't listen to her bubble gum music but it is highly encouraging and interesting for her to say this. Maybe she figures that she's got enough money and now she has a man so when the knuckle draggers stop buying her music she won't go hungry.

The Dixie Cicks had more talent, naive as they may be. I don't think this will hurt Underwood as bad. Gay marriage is the Democrats' red herring to distract from the economy. Plenty of people don't care about it.

2012-06-10 10:59:04 PM
Also, the Dixie Chicks went on to have a Grammy winning Rick Rubin produced tour and a sold out arena tour.

2012-06-10 10:59:25 PM
It's always about the gay marriage....does she support gay divorce?

2012-06-10 10:59:32 PM
Good for her. The thumpers will get over it, they listen to christian music anyway.

2012-06-10 11:01:44 PM
People burned Dixie Chicks CD's outside their churches after they spoke their politics publicly. I expect an immediate, similar response by at least somebody. The toothless angry impotent Southerner crowd will eventually be left with only their Prussian Blue albums to play over and over again.

2012-06-10 11:03:15 PM
Marrying a Canadian didn't hurt Carrie but this will.

Her and Mike Fisher are very religious people.. but it sounds like they actually pay attention to the love and don't criticize part of religion. Good on them. More Christians need to be like them.

Yeah, I wish the Democrats would stop wasting time with wedge issues like civil rights.

Dixie Chicks were talented but so is Carrie in her own right.

As opposed to chicks with dicks?

I might even have given a thumbs up if it had used a HERO tag for that reason. I'd see both sides of it, but I'd be willing to accept a HERO tag for this.

Yeah, State's often try to change their Constitutions on issues that people don't care about.

Oh for crap's sake, fellow non-liberals! Get the hell over this asinine obsession with being afraid or pissed or whatever about a couple of gals or a couple of guys that want to go down to the local courthouse and let it be made official that they dig eachother as much as we Heteroes are able. Sheesh.

2012-06-10 11:19:51 PM
I agree with President Obama, that this issue is one for individual states to decide as they see fit.

Mildot: She's blond, so it's not like she's smart or anything.

"As a married person myself, I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love, and want to marry," she said. "I can't imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love."

She sounds more articulate than you.

FTA: "She is the musical darling of American conservatives: a God-fearing farm girl from Oklahoma..."

She is required to fear this God? That doesn't sound like a very healthy relationship.

And righties: keep coming out on the wrong side of history:

Keep farking that chicken, conservatives.

As for the gay marriage votes this November :

Human rights shouldn't be something that's up for a vote.

GAT_00: Plus that one song about her farking up the BF's car is pretty funny.

I will admit that that song serves a purpose as a warning indicator: If a girl likes it, keep your distance.

2012-06-11 12:05:04 AM
She is very naughty for having such an opinion. I think a spanking is in order. Have her brought to my chambers.

2012-06-11 12:06:32 AM
Are we going to get to see her naked on the cover of Entertainment Weekly?

2012-06-11 12:11:33 AM
I'd carry her under wood. Wait I mean

2012-06-11 12:27:20 AM
Well, that's nice, Carrie. Thanks for your input.

Now do the world a favor and stop making saccharin, canned, pop-country bullshiat for the Walmart crowd.

Trackball: Because the democrats have NEVER sought to strip rights from groups of americans.

1964 Civil Rights Act, Richard Nixon's Southern Strategy, Dixiecrats.
Look them up.

The sticking point is always that word that incites so many emotions, good and bad. No, I'm not talking about gay, I'm talking about the word marriage. The federal government, to borrow a conservative talking point, "shouldn't be in the business of" marriage.

Civil unions. For ALL. Gay, lesbian, transgendered, heterosexual, whatever. One term, civil union. Same tax benefits, insurance, hospital visitation rights for all.

Marriage is a religious term, leave that in the hands of the churches.

STRYPERSWINE: Gay marriage is the Democrats' red herring to distract from the economy.

More like Republicans who keep bringing up social issues to rally their ignorant base because they have admitted in the past to obstruct any laws and policies that would help the economy to prevent Obama from being re-elected?

History fail. Democrats of old are Republicans of today.

I don't think Carrie Underwood will get the blow back like the Ditzy Chicks did.

What got the Ditzy Chicks in trouble was that they did what they did during the middle of a war. Even people not supportive of Bush or the war did not like the attack on our troops, or the smugness of Natalie Maines (the one who actually made the comment)

Also, the Ditzy Chicks decided to have a big feud with Toby Keith...and that pretty much sealed the Chicks fate. Keith at the time was as popular as the Chicks...and fans of both sided w Keith on that one

So when would be a more convenient time to speak out?

DancingElkCondor: Even people not supportive of Bush or the war did not like the attack on our troops,

Funny, I don't remember any attack on our troops, just the President at the time. Or is the President part of "the troops" because he's the Commander-in-Chief?

DancingElkCondor: or the smugness of Natalie Maines (the one who actually made the comment)

Funny, I also don't remember any smugness, just someone who had more balls than the hicks that listened to her music.

DancingElkCondor: Also, the Ditzy Chicks decided to have a big feud with Toby Keith...and that pretty much sealed the Chicks fate. Keith at the time was as popular as the Chicks...and fans of both sided w Keith on that one

Toby Keith is a pandering fool who will do anything to make a buck. One minute his smokin' weed with Willie again, the next he's singing about putting a boot in your ass if you disagree with him. Maines had more balls than him, too.

That's when people usually speak out against war.
