A moment of silence to mourn what might have been......

Moment over. Dibs on the bike!

I miss Terra Nova.

/In advance: haters gonna hate.

One thing I could never understand was why the hell the cars had no doors if they were going into dangerous territory?

2012-06-10 06:46:17 PM
Worst show ever!

2012-06-10 06:49:46 PM
Terra Nova had so much potential to be something interesting and good. The budget for the pilot alone was $14 million, making it the most expensive pilot ever made. The previous record-holder was ABC's Lost in 2004. We all know how that turned out.

Yes, it went downhill quickly. Not as quickly as Terra Nova, but down it did go.

Range Rovers and Landcruisers.

In the wild areas of Australia, those are considered low end work vehicles for dealing with the dangerous fauna. Hell, you can't drive a suburban street without seeing vehicles like those in every other driveway.

I just don't know why the dinosaurs had to look so crappy, especially with Spielberg at the helm. I understand that Jurassic Park was a big budget feature and not a TV show but it was also almost two decades ago. Anyway none of that would matter if any of the characters were worth caring about. And the father/son histrionics, again, Spielberg? Really?

2012-06-10 07:11:30 PM
Why oh why did they have to make it a family drama.

Why do they think we want to see whinny teenagers in our Scifi?

Morn what could have been? It was a show on Fox...just a matter of time...

2012-06-10 07:13:12 PM
Yes, it was a very good show. It sucks that it was cancled. I would have watched it next year. At least Falling Skies is coming back next week. Opposite True Blood. Thank God the DVR can record two shows at once. I am also happy it is not on the air the same time as Family Guy. Whew.. Am I right?

I'm betting the dinosaurs looked crappy more due to time constraints than budget. They were dealing with a weekily show vs something like District 9 which proved you can get good CGI on a budget.

I like the show, but I hate getting invested in a story line only to be left hanging on a cliff.

anyone know if SyFy is going to auction off this?

If it had been even a third as compelling as advertised,it might have escaped cancellation for at least two years (see Fringe). Obviously, that wasn't the case.

Those things came from a contemporary show? They look like vehicles from a straight-to-video 80's movie.

They aren't. I already called dibs.

r1chard3: Why oh why did they have to make it a family drama.

I know. It was a show about time travel, colonizing an alien planet, a dystopian future, and dangerous government conspiracies and they still felt the need to include angsty parent-teen relationships. No one will want to watch the show unless there's people doing stupid things and whining for no reason.

I just wanted the show up to wrap up the end cliffhanger

2012-06-10 08:06:08 PM
Suspension of disbelief only goes so far.

1. Large Population of known EatYourAssasauruses are in the general vicinity. This is a known prior to mission inception.

2. No proper protections were employed to protect yourselves from EatYourAssasauruses.
examples:

a. Vehicles have no enclosed protection from either large or small EatYourAssasauruses.
b. Perimeter of living area made of logs that have gaps offering no protection from small dog or (fer christ sake) even komodo dragon sized EatYourAssasauruses. Also, no aerial cover from flying EatYourAssasauruses which can fly in and.....well....eat your ass.
c. Teenagers are able to breach your perimeter with impunity, venturing to and fro, willy nilly at all hours of the day or night due to the fact that they somehow didn't realize any EatYourAssasaurus the size of a teenager of commensurate size, also has unfettered access into your compound.
d. Too soon after Avatar for Stephen Lang to play a similar character except have him be good
e. Oh......just keep the list going for me while I get a beer......tks.

I never watched it, and I bet most people out there haven't watched it either...

// and i'm a sci-fi nerd as well, nothing about the previews for this show interested me...

Forbidden Doughnut: I never watched it, and I bet most people out there haven't watched it either...

I don't watch much TV at all and I tried to watch it. The Spielbergian son-angry-at-his-dad thing turned me off more than the poorly rendered dinos.

That bothered me too. You would think you would go equipped with weapons capable of taking down a T-Rex.

The premise reminded me a little of Earth 2. And she was the only reason I watched a couple of episodes of that show.

But would I have seen them in anything?

This... I figured they'd totally be telegraphing some nasty totalitarian aspirations or something, for once the dinos got too routine or expensive.

What does it cost to have one of these cars shipped to the Americas, and what would the import duty be like to the USA?

No calls for 5 seasons and a movie?

Huh. I thought every Fox SF show spawned such devotion.

Maybe if they'd employed a member of the Murdoch family it would have lasted
a bit longer.

Or space strippers and the idea that a strong female character is life-support-for-tits with two guns instead of one.

Have you seen it? It was pretty damn bad. It's not really surprising nobody is sad to see it go.

rhiannon: The budget for the pilot alone was $14 million, making it the most expensive pilot ever made

I gotta figure some exec blew most of that on coke, because the show looked pretty damn cheap compared to most other recent Sci Fi shows (BS:G, for example). 90% of the show was filmed on some rented-out holiday bungalows in an Australian rainforest, the dinosaurs were rendered on a 486, the future-cars are just Range Rovers with bits of plastic stuck to them and the guns were Nerf toys with a coat of black paint. Oh, and nobody has heard of any of the actors other than that one dude from Avatar.

Whitney actually holds that title, but this is a close runner-up.

TN had such a cool concept for the 1st 10 mins of the 1st episode.

Then they landed in the new locale and decided that family/relationship drama was a good idea.
What a waste of time.

If they'd only put in some animated ponies it would have been a hit with the college kids and become popular.

Terra Nova isn't any worse than Falling Skies. And that hasn't been canceled. Both are really bad actually. Stop having whiny douchebag kids in dramas.

To be fair, a ton of shows have been doing that forever. You notice it a lot if you know nerf.

Falling Skies wasnt too bad until the ridiculousness of the season finale.

At least we can all agree that The Event sucked.

/and the V remake, but that had hot chicks at least

None of the Terra Nova production heads or writers should ever work again.

Ah yes SG:U because the strength go SG:1 and Atlantis being likeable occasionally funny characters with generally lighthearted stories always makes me want a show more depressing than battle star galactica...

Spielberg hasn't done anything worthwhile in years. Then he involved branon bragga. This show had no chance.
