(YouTube)   This week's SHMHC features a live performance from metal legends Candlemass, shot by a fan with the most amazing camera phone in the world. I mean seriously, it's practically a steadicam plugged into the soundboard (video starts at 1:38)   (youtube.com) divider line 33

Subby is correct, the video quality is awesome for a phone. Or my phone's video quality is crap, which, to be honest, is more likely.

The video quality is good...but I'm more impressed with the audio! Very nice!

it may not have been recorded with a phone. it could have been captured with one of them tiny little video-ma-call-its with an external microphonator attachmented to it.

Not difficult; I have a handful of shows of equal quality shot with my phone; I have an entire In Flames show shot with slightly better quality. Still, impressive.

HighZoolander: a few good things this week -

Goatpenis - Homo Homini Lupus (war)

Goat Semen - Warfare Noise (war; probably NSFW pictures in video)

Mighty Goat Obscenity - 666 Positions for farking Mary (black; really damn NSFW pictures)

Decay - Armies of the Dead (death/thrash)

Nordor - Purification (excellent death metal from Greece)

Nordor - The Invocation of the Four Gates (death; sung in Sanskrit, obviously)

Besatt - Seals of Hate (black; worth listening all the way through)

Bane - Pandemonium (melodic black/death)

Night biatch - Chainmaker (Danzig-esque trad metal)

Witch Mountain - Beekeeper (stoner/doom)

Coffins - Till Dawn of the Dooms Day (superb death/doom from Japan)

/I got into goats a little this week
//new Candlemass album is most excellent - not as good for me yet as Death Magic Doom, but a worthy successor for sure, and I've only listened to it 5-10 times so far, so my opinion may change...

I find your predilection for goats, um, disturbing.

...and yet concert venues still have "no cameras/camcorders/sound recording equipment" restrictions in place. I suppose the record companies have something to do with it, but then what's the farking point of having those restrictions when you can create average or above-average quality bootlegs with a smartphone?

YES.

I must have listened to that album 200 times between mid & high school.
It's great to see Candlemass getting some love here on Fark.

Well, it's more of a post-dilection now, if that helps?

Leven is a great singer, they should just keep him IMO

I miss the days when I could watch a concert without every other asshat in the venue whipping out their cell phone to make some shiatty recording to upload to their youtube account. Put down the phone, enjoy the show and let others do the same. No one wants watch the stage through your LCD screen.

Listen to:
Aquilus (blackened neoclassical folk - one man band)
New Charlemagne sample (Christopher Lee. Yes, that Christopher Lee)
Free Nelson Mandoomjazz (doom jazz)

Speaking of heavy metal, I've spent the last few days enjoying "The Electric Age", the new album by East Coast thrash metal legends Overkill.

Seriously kickass album if you're a fan of old-school thrash. I highly recommend it.

Apparently not since, according to Metal Archives at least, he was kicked out of the band for "poor live performances".

Of the over 600 shows I've been to, I've only had an issue one time. Can't explain it; sometimes the artist is the reason, sometimes the venue is- I've had arguments with venues before when they weren't cool with it but the artist was. Of course, I'm also not busting out a full fledged video camera either.

Just got the new Mammoth Mammoth (NSFW images; streams of new songs are at bottom of page). Any fans of Red Fang, Svölk, or stoner hard rock/metal should definitely give these guys a listen.
