FTA: The agreement she signed with Omaha states that the contract could be canceled "at any time" for such things as unprofessional conduct, immorality and "other conduct which interferes substantially with the continued performance of duties."

So that's vague enough to mean just about anything. Why not "Don't use district computers/district e-mail systems to send sexually-explicit e-mails"?

Then again, perhaps someone dumb enough to do this is not really smart enough for the job anyway.

Point taken - their job, so far as I understand, is to keep teachers from, like, teaching.

No need to bring morals into it.. In most professional jobs you just have a clause about not using company resources for personal business. Sending nasty sexy emails to that special someone would fall under that wording. So you could be summarily terminated for it, without all the touchy feely morality standards.

Yeah, an Omaha World-Herald public records request started all of this last month. Here's an article that pretty much explains the whole situation: Link

OPS was going to pay her $275k, a $38k tax-sheltered annuity and a $12k car allowance. Apparently they spent about $50k to pay a search firm to hire her in the first place. You'd think her sudden resignation in Iowa would have raised some red flags with OPS or the search firm...

The average School official has the IQ of a turnip so the question should be "are you too smart to be a school board member?"

ZERO TOLERANCE!! ZERO TOLERANCE!! for you and me!!

No, but it means that when you do the dumb shiat, you don't have a case for wrongful termination under the "nobody told me I couldn't talk about assfarking on company email" defense.

2012-06-10 03:35:59 PM
I'ts hilarious when that happens. I worked somewhere once, where a lady downloaded the beheading video of Daniel Perl (back when we'd just invaded Iraq) at work and it disturbed her so badly she threw up in her trashcan and left for the day.

Was she fired? Hell no. But EVERYONE had to read and sign "terms of use" notices about proper use of work computer/internet.

She did crazy shiat like this 2 more times before she finally got sacked. And every time she did, we'd all have to read and sign "terms of use" notices.

Yes, but school officials enjoy branching into private lives and morality as often as possible. Few administrators I have known have wanted the position to assist teachers and instead want to manage a school and education based on personal beliefs, such as school as a business. Those people happen to have ridiculous and often hypocritical moral standards.

It's very simple. Talk about all that stuff on your private gmail account and using a personal device. Problem solved.

This woman's email only was opened because the media wanted to see when she started thinking about the Omaha job. The "I heart your cock" stuff was just a neat little pretend scandal.

This woman cost herself millions of dollars over her lifetime because she was too lazy to learn to text.

You know, my IQ is 132. Only slightly above average. I'd guess (and bet) most "school officials" have a higher one. Whether or not that leads to dumb decision-making ability is a different conversation. You don't get stories about great decisions though, only stupid ones.

132 is waaaaaaay above average - 2 standard deviations. About 3% of people have an IQ that high.

Who gets to decide what constitutes morality? Because if it's the usual suspects, that can only lead to trouble.

A hundred years ago, "moral" thinking led to the rule that a female schoolteacher wasn't allowed to be married (or even date), because married women have sex, and any woman who's had sex is a filthy whore who shouldn't be allowed children.

Lady Whiteadder: Don't call me "Auntie." Aunt is a relative and relatives are evidence of sex. Which is hardly a fitting conversation for the dinner table.

Same idiotic puritan reasoning.

Why does anyone care whether the school superintendent sends sexually-explicit e-mails? Why, when it was discovered that this particular superintendent had, didn't a rep for the school district simply say: "We employ humans and they're allowed to have feelings"?

I just don't get it. I don't even care that she used her work e-mail. 99% of employees send e-mails that aren't related to their jobs from their work e-mail accounts. Receiving a paycheck doesn't mean that you have to stop being a human being for eight hours every day.

Dammit! Clearly I'm thinking too much...or possibly not enough. I have the weirdest blind spot with ending-conjugations. I'll swap -ed for -ing or just leave them out when they're needed. I was tempted to blame Word and/or OpenOrifice for completing the words wrong, but Fark's textboxes don't have that feature. New hypothesis is that I focus on the start of the word and then jump to the next one before I'm done, and my fingers finished it off in whatever screwed-up manner they see fit.

Sure. A morality clause works every time. It is extremely effective at preventing poor morals but is not as effective as a chastity pledge for teenagers.

And it would have worked for Nancy Sebring had she had one, but somehow they got rid of her without one.

So it's just bullshiat politics and posturing on the part of some tight-asses on the school board (who are likely farking the babysitter or the dog).
