Eh, they aren't the worst I've heard and if I need some blander rock to listen to, they fit the bill.

Had a few friends that went to one of their concerts. Free tickets, what the hey, might as well go. They said they actually had a pretty decent time at their concert.

If you are wanting more rebellious cutting edge rock, Nickleback isn't what you listen to or go to see. They have a niche for what they produce. Easy on the ears for a lot of folks in the main stream.

Not really defending them, but the foaming at the mouth hate and rage over how much they suck does get a little old. Listen to what you want, let others listen to what they want. Pretty simple.

Rock was fully commercialized well, well before the Kroeger bros. decided to form a band.

Journey was a fusion band, but they decided they wanted to sell more records and hired Steve Perry. Fleetwood Mac was a straight up blues-rock band in the late 60s, until they morphed into soft rock and adult contemporary. Styx has always been over the top, pompous and commercial.

I agree that in retrospect, alternative rock wasn't all that alternative to everything else. They had the same barre chords, 4/4 rhythm patterns, leather and denim everywhere, drank and did drugs a lot, had guitar solos, and pretty much everything else that typefied rock music. Besides all the grunge guys listened to old metal bands like Black Sabbath and punk bands like the Clash. You know what Motley Crue listened to as kids? I still maintain that Limp Bizkit is probably the worst band ever. Nickelback is bad, but in a very generic sense. Fred Durst pretty much goads you into hating him and his music. Nickleback is this generation's Night Ranger and nothing more.

My sister had tickets for a Nickleback show and got stood up, so I went with her (mostly because Buck Cherry was opening). I was surprised at the show they put on. They're not bad live; they know how to work the crowd and they sounded pretty good.

Oasis isn't really that bad if you can separate the ego from the music; though I don't really care for them otherwise. Papa Roach is pretty bad, but I don't actively hate any of them like I do Fred Durst. fark that guy.


Nickleback, along with Creed, aren't so much bad as they are overplayed.They're fairly generic otherwise. Limp Bizkit is basically a group full of douchebags (or at least Fred Durst) who make shiatty music for other douchebags and they were overplayed in their heyday.

Nickelback is kinda bland, but popular. Just perfect for hipster haters. Their music really isn't that bad, just nothing I would go out of the way to see.

I just saw Nickelback live this past Tuesday, so I'm really getting a kick... In my defense, I went because Seether and Bush were opening. Seether was disappointing, but holy shiat, Bush puts on an EPIC show.

Nickelback's stage design was really cool.

And I will say this for Chad Kroeger: He knows his audience is mostly white trash and he definitely plays to their sensibilities.

I don't care for Nickelback, but I really don't care if you like them. As long as you don't blast their music loud enough to keep me awake, I really do not care.

Nickelback are musicians as much as Carlos Mencia is a comedian.

I fear that Nickelback will break up and fade away, and then we'll never know what the hell was on Joey's head.

Much worse than Nickleback or just about anybody else for that matter.

El Freak: Rock and roll stopped being rebellious and turned into mostly corporate shiat about 40 years ago.

Even the shiat that was "real" wasn't any good. At my last job -- working with outside sales -- I got to share a lot of windshield time with some Baby Boomers who grew up during the "rock" era they're so proud of. So instead of the same old two dozen actually good songs you hear on the radio, I got to listen a lot of the stuff that didn't make it through the nostalgia filter.

It's crap.

What's more unbelievable is how these old folks will gush about how "great" these bands are for writing these songs on the fly, often drunk, hung over or stoned to the ceiling. Except most of the music does sound like it was written in ten minutes by a junkie. Even the great ye olde bands were crap 90% of the time. Very little musical depth. They did come up with the occasional sample that got immortalized, but this was only by throwing a LOT of shiat against the wall. In many cases it was a sheer collective volume issue. If a hundred bands of drunks wrote ten songs a year (a very pedestrian pace) for a decade, that's 10,000 songs. If only 1% of them were great, well, that's 100 great songs.

There are no great musical eras; just great music. If a pack of alcoholics come up with something catchy, more power to them, but the only pattern at work here is that people tend to fondly remember the favorite tunes they grew up with and forget that they (or the industry) had already picked the needles out of the haystack. Nickleback sucks but an industry band spewing mediocre music is more the rule than the exception.
