Damn it's awful to send underage girls to state prison for posting a bunch of notes

they must have the stupidest janitors in the world at that place... Let in a bunch of students after hours and help them put up post its? Not worried about having to clean up after these people? WTF?

FTA: The students involved in the Post-It incident posted a YouTube video of their antics, which listed their names. Students are seen plastering lockers with the notes, leaping down stairwells and pulling down their pants to show off their underwear.

Depending on genders, this may be relevant to my interests.

I remember my Senior prank. The plan was to break the gas pipe, causing the school administrators to go looking for the source of the gas smell, and there they'd find a bunch of lit candles spelling my name and the word 'rules'.

School administrators, teachers, burn victims, just can't take a joke.

Suspension.

If you are a school official of some kind, it's a perfect way to compensate for your tiny penis, receding hairline or any other general feelings of incompetence.

There should be an actual website dedicated to the brainless antics of these overpaid seat-warmers. Sorta like "people of Walmart" where they are endlessly ridiculed.

The year I graduated, during the school-wide "moving up day" ceremony, someone opened a bag filled with 3000 crickets in the darkened auditorium where the entire school was gathered. I was sitting sort of in the middle of the senior section, and all of the sudden I started to see the people in the rows in front of me jumping out of their seats, row by row like a wave. Then the underclassmen at either side of the auditorium started jumping out of their seats. Soon the entire auditorium was up out of their seats, jumping around, waving their hands and shrieking as they tried to brush the crickets off themselves. The teachers and staff were trying to usher everyone out of the auditorium and get them back to their homerooms, and as folks poured out of the auditorium the crickets did too, there was live crickets, dead crickets, cricket slime every where.

After the ruckus died down we were able to go back to the auditorium to collect our yearbooks (they had to let us back in through one of the back stage doors). When all was said and done, at least 1 person was arrested and a few kids were banned from graduation over the stunt. Now, THAT is a senior prank. It made front page news in the same newspaper from TFA, above the fold (because back then the internet was young). Must have been a slow news day.

This is hilarious. A lame prank which the kids come in early the next day to clean up so as not to disrupt school.

They get suspended and the leader or the lame-prank-pack bends over and says "yes sir, can I have some more sir!"

The drones are fully formed and ready for placement in their crappy service industry jobs.

As eager as I would be to jump on the "Administrators are idiots" bandwagon, I have to side with the principal on this one. The students were not punished for the senior prank. They were punished for being on school after-hours, and the punishment would have been the same for any other day of the year. This is one of those "Enforce the rules or lose your job" situations. If he doesn't enforce the rule here, then the next group of students caught after-hours on campus can say "Well the seniors who did the prank didn't get punished."

Elsewhere in the article, mentioning a previous prank, fire extinguishers on 38 buses costing $60,000 in clean-up costs... wait... *math*... Over fifteen hundred dollars per bus to clean up fire extinguisher residue?

That'd be all fine and dandy... except that it was (adult) school workers who let the students in. They didn't break in. The doors were unlocked for them and they were invited inside.

Actually, normally I would be sad and demoralized that the seniors who did the prank were such suck-ups about it. But the economy sucks ass. They have learned one of the primary job qualifications in the new economy. They can worry about human dignity after they've secured bare survival for awhile.

Seriously, I don't actually have a problem with how the kids handled the suspension. It was very adult of them. A kid faced with punishment reacts like it's the worst thing in the world and constrains what he can and can't do--not always, but more or less.

The big distinction between a kid and an adult is that an adult is like Dorothy and the gang after they get to Oz and see the man behind the curtain. An adult can look at a punishment, can evaluate how much power you have and what you can actually do or not do--what the price is for what he wants to do--and then decide for himself whether he's going to do it anyway. And then an adult can and will decide for himself whether he's going to cooperate with punishment, too.

The perfect "adult" moment---Dumbledore when Cornelius Fudge orders his arrest, "I thought we might hit this little snag. You appear to think I'm going to come along quietly."

I see going in and cleaning the post-its back up as an act of defiance. They didn't wait around to be ordered about what to do. It was their show. They handled it their way---start to finish. Administration didn't get to decide whether to order them to clean it up or to shame them by making a big deal about how the janitorial staff who let them in was having to do so much extra work cleaning it all up. And it didn't get to count up the hours it took to clean it up and make an inflated count of the alleged "costs of cleanup."

I wonder if we'll ever get a sense of humor back?

Hey! They mentioned my high school down at the bottom! My senior year at Guilderland some of my friends planned to steal the Greulich's Cow (big ceramic cow on top of Greulich's Market). They got up on the roof, loosened all the bolts and were all set to make off with it when they heard someone coming. They ran off and when they came back someone else had stolen it. (Or at least that's what they told me.) The cow was found a few weeks later, standing in the middle of a field with real cows.

I would be happy to superglue the locks for them...that way nobody will be there after hours.
