A GDT-helmed Pinocchio? Awesome!

Hellboy 2.

But Pan's Labyrinth and The Orphanage make up for it. Stop motion? Yes, please.

I can't wait to see how he pulls off a stop-motion, pulsating, engorged whale blob thing.

Isn't Tim Burton also working a Pinocchio movie?

I don't get Hellboy 2 hate at all. I think it's great. The only Hellboy adaptation I've never liked was a full-on novel with which Mike Mignola clearly had no involvement.

I hadn't heard that. I do know his Frankenweenie flick will be in theaters soon.

Shush you. Hellboy 2 was fun as all get out.

To be fair, what del Toro needs is a Brutus the Gorilla and the disembodied head of von Klempt riding T-rexes with machine guns strapped to their heads. And MOAR Baba Yaga.

The thing with Hellboy, is that there is no such things as over the top. The series is based in a pulp fiction sort of universe, with nice quiet moments of Victorian horror interspersed with punching an avatar of Hecate in the mug, or b*tch slapping Tengu and Gaki and back to moments of Creeping Horror in moments. del Toro is a guy who understands those beats. Calm before the storm. Not afraid to drop back the pace down, and then ramp it back up.

Yes, I even enjoyed how he did things in Blade 2. He took moments, he let the characters be who they were. He let you see it, he brought you in a bit, and then their heads split open like lampreys with gingivitus...

Yes and it will have Johnny Depp as a crazy, pancake makeup wearing Geppetto, a nebbish waif as the love interest, Helena Bonham Carter in an ugly outfit, and Danny Elfman doing the music.

You're right. It was fun, but it certainly wasn't as good as the first. I can't get over the scene with the skinny arms.

I think the whole film just felt rushed. Maybe I should give it another watch.

The thing that turned me off was the whole boy-girl twins thing that he recycled from Blade 2 (okay, they weren't twins in Blade, but still, you kinda knew their fate immediately).

Still. It's GDT. I'm in.

That, too. It has been done many times before. Hell, it was used in Fatal Fury.

GDT has got to be one of my favorite directors of the present time. Love how he told Paramount to go fark themselves when they wanted At the Mountains of Madness to be PG-13.

Compared to Hellboy 1, Hellboy Two had zero pacing. Holy fark, I never felt more rushed past and through scenery and events in my life. It was like the studio gave him an exact length of film that, when filled, would be the end. Just when you were getting into something it'd be no no no c'mon next scene BAM. Like the editor was coked to oblivion.

Ask Snow White and Sherlock Holmes. They're free for Hollywood to use, you know. Behold the power of the Public Domain

Looks too Tim Burton-y.

Damn you, Ridley Scott, for derailing Del Toro's version of AT THE MOUNTAINS
OF MADNESS, in favor of this crap.

"the Jim Henson Company-produced movie" along with Guillermo, gives me a bit of excitement that it might turn out something like Labyrinth or Dark Crystal. I'll keep my eye on this and hopefully it does well so Guillermo can do some more watery pursufawaarrgghbluurrga

I loved Hellboy 2. The market sequence was worth the admission by itself...
Perhaps an example of the guy not being awesome was him flaking out on the LotR movies, but then again, i'm glad he did.

Truth be told, it was partly because Peter Jackson wanted full control.
