Hey, why don't they have a better team? I mean, I always held the impression that Ireland was fanatical about football/soccer, and all the athletic kids flocked only to that. They have the interest, they have a sizable population, they should have something soccerwise to show for it, no?

Ireland's always been playing catchup because back in the day the local authorities were adamant about promoting Gaelic sports, and soccer was the product of those dirty filthy English.
