It's obvious it was fixed. There was no next fight for Manny since the Mayweather fight won't happen. So they needed a 3-fight series to make money.

So it'll be Manny vs Bradley II and Manny will win, and then the rubber match.

I don't know why he would be, UFC has their own problems with ridiculous judging and judging errors too. In fact, Friday night they had a rematch of a fight because someone f'd up simple math, so a fight that was originally announced as a victory for one guy in the ring was changed 20 minutes later to a draw, and since the fight was the semifinals of a tournament to decide the new flyweight champ, they had to re-do the fight (rules called for a fourth round if it were tied after 3, but since they botched the math they didn't get a chance).

As for this robbery, I've seen references to the Marquez fights but at least in those cases they were close fights and the decisions were defensible, with people in the media usually splitting on who the winner was on their unofficial scorecards (even though personally I think Marquez won the last one and I think that's the majority opinion). But this one wasn't close. Everyone had this as at least an 8-4 clear Pacquiao win. I haven't seen anyone of repute have it any closer than that. Except, somehow, the judges. There have been several utterly mind-boggling boxing decisions in fights of note this year too, this fight is just the most high-profile.

2012-06-10 11:37:37 AM
UFC and Dana White himself have a saying... and it's the same in boxing. If you want a guaranteed win, don't let it go to the judges.

It's been happening since human beings judged anything... judging is based on opinion, and it's never without bias.

meh. boxing has been corrupt forever. i never followed it anywhere else other than the headlines after the fight. the last real theater i got out of boxing was from Tyson in the 80s and 90s and even then it was just theater. I'm too young to have first hand memories of boxing's various heydays. I'm so dis-enthused about boxing that even this poutrage is boring. So meh again.

Meh...there has never been a time when boxing was not fixed. This is not at all surprising, nor should it be. Arum knows that there will never be a Mayweather/Pacquaio fight, and he needed a way to get past it that makes it look like it isn't his fault that it never happened.

MMA FTW.

the ESPN video on the fight suggested that Packy wasnt going to renew his contract which was expiring this year so they went ahead and gave it to Bradley who is still signed for a little while. That way they dont have to deal with a title-less crown or some such.

2012-06-10 11:56:17 AM
Bradley told Arum before the decision he thought he lost. He told Kellerman after the decision he needed to see the tape to see if he won.

Bradley's manager said he had it scored 8-4 Pacquiao.

Bradley's people went to HBO during the fight to explain that the reason he was losing was the turned ankle.

In short, everyone on Bradly's side knows they lost.

noblehammer16: I just witnessed the death of boxing.

The death of boxing was going to happen soon enough. Pacquiao/Mayweather would have been the last great fight, and Mayweather being a coward put that to rest.

But even if that happened... and it would have been huge- even to non-boxing fans... the sport would have died silently afterwards.

Do any boxing fans want to explain to this MMA fanboi why it is just assumed that every 12 round match is EXPECTED not to finish. Twelve. Farking. Rounds. Of nothing happening. Even when discussing the mythical sport saving bout of Manny vs Floyd nobody is even talking about it actually finishing decisively.

As to why championship fights are 12 rounds, it's because it's supposed to be a test of conditioning and resilience, as well as technique and power. It used to be 15, but they started worrying that too many people were getting beat to death. Some guys aren't very interesting to watch. Ward, Dawson, Hopkins, Tim Bradley to some extent... Some people don't have the power to finish fights short of 12, like Bradley, and the most glaring example in modern boxing, Paulie Malignaggi. There are good fights, and even fair decisions when they go to the cards, but far too many of the high profile ones of late have sucked and/or had questionable judging. Froch vs. Bute wasn't bad to watch, the underdog Froch got a decisive KO in 5 rounds. Most of Froch's fights are decent, although Ward made him look like a pile of shiat, which Ward does to pretty much everyone, without looking all that wonderful himself. You just have to wade through an awful lot of crap to get to good stuff these days.

That'll never catch on.

I'd rather see a fist fight than dudes rolling around of the ground for a round or two, that shiat sucks. I think kickboxing should have been the boxing replacement, I don't like watching UFC.

Don't worry, popping a boner during that round or two while they are "rolling around on the ground" is normal for about 1/7 guys.

We won't hate you, but Pac Man will.

I wish Muay Thai would catch on in the US. The fights are brutal and the clinch doesn't end up with two guys rolling on each other for 4 minutes.

Try 12 rounds of throwing 40 punches a round, and getting hit 20 times a round, and tell me how nothing is happening. That's not even a crazy pace.

Nothing DECISIVE is happening. After all that it still has to go to the judges (who then fark it up) and the fans just take it in stride that every big name fight will end this way. Boxing might as well be point sparring by now.

The entire mindset of that sport has changed from "win the fight" to "last the full 12 rounds and hope your check to the judges clears". It's all foreplay.

2012-06-10 02:29:05 PM
"I thought I won the fight," Bradley said. "I didn't think he was as good as everyone says he was. I didn't feel his power."

So Bradley went from "I have to watch the tape to see if I won" to "holy shiat I whipped that ass I am the shiat and Pacquaio sucks motherfarker" in less than 24 hours

2012-06-10 02:53:08 PM
Watch the last round and the decision on YouTube. Jesus the announcers were saying "don't be surprised if Bradley wins" etc. They already knew who was going to win and were pumping the viewers to make sure they didn't get too upset about the decision.

I'll throw in my 2 cents for what its worth.

I have never watched boxing before, but I caught the 24/7 special on HBO, and it got me really interested. Interested enough that I actually watched a fight for the first time.

I really enjoyed the fight and could see myself watching more boxing, but the decision at the end really turned me off. Sorry boxing, you had the chance to win another fan, but I'm not going to waste time with manufactured controversies and corruption.

I would say 8 not 10, Bradly defiantly won 9,10, 11, and I think 8 could be called for him also.

A few years back they had The Contender Asia, with the same concept as the Stallone TV series except with Muay Thai. It had a good mix of Europeans, Asians, some Australians, etc.

It was on Versus so it probably didn't get a lot of viewers (in fact, I think I had to downoad the last 3 episodes because they stopped airing it here!) but it definitely had me interested in watching more Muay Thai. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where I would be able to watch any matches other than trying to track them down on the internet.

HDnet does show some K1 tournaments from time to time so at least there is an alternative to the mostly MMA stuff. And with boxing I can't see myself paying $55 (or is it $65 just to see it in HD still?) when I could be spending that $55 on a whole lot of beer and chicken wings or just skipping the fight completely.

Sounds like Black Racism has really killed boxing

Look at that vagina Floyd Mayweather...who is major chicken shiat to fight Pacquiao. The "Pacquiao is on steroids" crap is major BS. If anyone was on roids last nite...it was Bradley

Notice that blacks, blacks in the media, are always hesitant to give Manny his due. They hate it that an Asian is a world champion...they hate it that an Asian is champ moreso than it was a Hispanic

Boxing is fixed, it is racist (esp Black Racist), and most of the white audience is now watching MMA.

This is about money and corruption, not race. At best, incompetence. And I seriously doubt your contention that black people in media move in lock step. Hell, I just listened to two black sports radio dudes (Lincoln Kennedy and I forget the other guys name but it was espn) say pacquiano got jobbed and it was obvious.

Mayweather won that fight.

Maybe these judges were watching the last Pacquio Marquez fight as that how that one should have been scored. I can't see how all three judes (especially the two who had Bradlley winning) got it so wrong.
