Right, because the cartels wouldn't just move more cocaine or meth or illegals across.

At what point does Mexico become a failed state? There may come a time when the cartels are more powerful than the civil government of Mexico and the Mexican states.

I hate to say it, but Mexico needs to realize that they are fighting a rebellion or a civil war, not mere criminals. The criminal justice system is inadequate to deal with the problem. It would be like the Union trying to arrest each rebel soldier during the American Civil War - it just wouldn't work.

FTFA:More than 47,500 people have died in drug-related violence throughout the country since December 2006, when Calderon announced plans to deploy troops in efforts to combat cartels.

announced plans, yeah, that will get things done in Mexico. Just talk shyt and don't do nothing, business as usual, wait around until body parts start showing up on the steps of the courthouse,,,HAHAHAHA,,,WHAT A COUNTRY!!!

The land currently known as Mexico has a long and well-documented history or barbaric violence. It's no surprise that they're simply following the same traditions of their ancestry.

Then the dudes cutting his head off where whackin' at this cervical spine. The poor dude's hands keep raising up with every whack like it was a reflex move. Kinda sick.

To think that the simple legalization of one aspect of a multi faceted enterprise would diminish the violence is ignorant at best. This is a cultural and societal issue manifesting itself in a black market costume. Money and culture have always provided enough reason to shed blood over.

I love how these news seem to appear everywhere, but news about civil movements actually opposing the drug war, and the fact that young people are actually taking a stand against the status quot of the political political class in Mexico don't get a beep.

How hey, fark 'em, they're dirty brown people that can't behave and all they know is stealing jobs and killing people, they don't know any better!.

i wonder if detroit is having similar issues, though on a smaller scale.

2 tihngs i suppose are going on-

not much opportunity, therefore more likely for someone willing to perform illegal activities for pay in spite of the risk. i recall a dialogue elsewhere- "people that sell drugs and join gangs are stupid" responded with "imagine the only employment in reach is mcdonalds, and the only family to speak of is either in jail, at work, high, drunk, or homeless"

and

a few big cheeses in the illegal activities dept of mexico took dirt naps, so the balance of power is suject to question- so much more violence is being used ot settle that question.

2012-06-10 02:31:49 AM
But don't worry folks, if we just keep this drug war going, soon there won't be any more American's using drugs and funneling all that money to the criminals in Mexico. Also, we have to put as much political pressure on the Mexican government to keep drugs illegal on their side too!

We're almost there guys!

I came here to say that with what's going on there a serial killer could make tidy work and fly well under the radar. It could even be possible to manipulate the cartels (and police) to further violence against each other with some selective targeting, maybe a little copycatting and framing. I am starting to think that a few false flag operations (burn down towns of Zetas and blame the Sinaloa gang) may do a lot to help. Right now, those two gangs are in a war. It would be best to sit back, conduct these false flags, and watch them destroy themselves faster than their current rate.

it's one thing to hear about the violence, but it's easy to dismiss. after you watch something like that you have much more empathy and understanding. about what is actually going on. it's terrible and imo more people need to see it, like more people need to see the innocent and soldiers alike killed abroad, so they cant dismiss it and go on watching the Kardashions or some shiat. and maybe, just maybe people will start to do shiat about it.

I don't see why not. As long as it only spills slightly into the four border states they just don't care. It's much more profitable to not piss off Mexico by interfering with their 'internal affairs'. To get to the ultimate point, how would going into Mexico to take down the drug lords improve Obama's election chances? Negatively. So forget it. (I'm not Republican either, there are several good self-serving reasons for them to let this go on, too.)

Lord Dimwit:
At what point does Mexico become a failed state? There may come a time when the cartels are more powerful than the civil government of Mexico and the Mexican states.

That time has already come. I expect the average Mexican would rather break the law than defy people who would, without hesitation, torture and dismember them and their entire family. I know I would. The police are so often corrupt that I doubt people trust them at all either. If the state cannot enforce the law or protect its citizens, I'd say it's "failed".

cman:

I can't imagine any way that could go horribly, horribly awry and result in massive suffering of innocents. Let's do it!
