Cannabis is not a cure for prostate or any type of cancer.

It may be beneficial in an overall treatment plan including chemotherapy, but you can smoke all the pot in California and your prostate cancer won't get any better.

Don't take medical advice from celebrities, or for that matter anyone in California.

I've never heard anyone claim weed cures cancer, just that it helps with the nasty effects of treatment. Where did you hear someone claim otherwise?

What the hell are you talking about? It helps with nausea, increases appetite, and has some painkilling qualities. If it cured cancer, possession would be punishable by firing squad.

He went 8 years before he got it actually diagnosed. It sounds like he is trying to treat it with pot, which is a mistake.

FTFA "So I know it had nothing to do with cannabis," he said. "Cannabis is a cure."

Yeah, it does all that stuff, I agree completely but Chong said in the linked article it was a cure.

That's all people are hoping for. Chemotherapy basically poisons all of your cells including the cancerous ones. It is a system-wide death. The side effects make people wonder if the cure is worse than the disease. It leaves you weak and with no appetite whatsoever. Not eating makes you even more weak. Et cetera. Cannabis often provides a cheap and effective way for very sick people to get enough nutrition to survive.

But a drug company can't make billions off of that so they fight it. They will probably win.

There is a liqui-gel form of THC available by prescription, Marinol. It is still one of the few medications which is pill form (completely round, most medicines are tablets, or capsules)

I have absolutely no problem with people using marijuana for medical purposes, actually I have no problem with them using it recreationally. My elected representatives have been told of my opinion on decriminalization.

That is actually the new thing with prostate cancer, if the patient has a low Gleason sum watchful waiting is often recommended rather than more agressive treatment. Survival rates of Gleason sum of 2 to 4 are twenty years plus.

Sounds like he's going for the kook treatment rather than doing anything that might actually help his cancer. You're free to do whatever you want, but don't go around trying to claim that weed and snake oil is going to do anything at all for your cancer, there's a lot of stupid people out there that might be listening. I don't know which is worse, the homeopathy nutjobs, or the knuckleheads that think weed is going to cure anything more than an appetite.

I just hope he gets better, without the retarded argument about pot. And no, I'm not going to say where I am on that issue (and the truth may surprise you). Tommy is a sweet man and a talent - I just want him to get better. Let's wish him well without bringing contentious issues up. Whaddya think?

It is prostate cancer, stage 1. It is just an excuse to smoke pot. He probably already had a prescription for stress.

Having first noticed symptoms about eight years ago while incarcerated for selling drug paraphernalia, Chong said he was diagnosed "about a month ago."

That can't be good at all. If you ever notice symptoms of any type of cancer go to a doctor immediately, do not hesitate for one day. Treating it with marijuana is completely pointless too. I wish him all the best though and hope he beats it but he needs to get proper treatment.

Actually most of the time the treatment for prostate cancer is do nothing. Something else will kill you much earlier than the cancer.

There are studies that have found cannabis to decrease the growth rate of cancerous tumors. I'm not a doctor, or even an amateur stoner/homeopathic nut job; but I've read it.

If this is still a stage 1 cancer after eight years of symptoms, it's not going anywhere for a few more decades. He'll die with prostate cancer, not of it.

But yeah, he's wrong about cannabis being a cure.

Yeah, a lot of old dudes get prostate cancer. They usually die from something else. If they toke up that is cool but the fake excuses don't help.

A quick search shows mixed results. Some studies show that cannabinoids reduce tumor size and/or tumor formation for certain types of cancer, while other studies show that they can actually increase the risk of other types of cancer. The first group appears to outnumber the second.

Either way, Chong is just trying to get high. I don't care if he does and I think he (and everybody else) should be allowed to and the war on drugs should be shut down immediately but he is shiatting us with this.

I agree that this sort of testimonial ultimately does more harm than good; but if he's shiatting with us, he's deluding himself as well. Hemp oil (which is what he says he's taking) is virtually cannabinoid-free; the health benefits come from a favorable mixture of essential fatty acids.

I'm not sure that ingesting hemp oil without igniting or vaping it would actually get you very high. Wouldn't it typically need to be heat activated and absorbed into some kind of fat?

Hemp oil won't get you high at all. It's pressed from seeds and contains no THC unless some stray leaves or flowers get mixed in.

The real problem with prostate and colon cancers is that it moves around. Once it hits the liver, brain, lungs, heart, pancreas, it's curtains.
Having your prostate removed won't kill you. It's when the cancer shows up elsewhere in your body.

/at least that is my understanding.
