I've always wanted to host a dinner of prominent preachers with Jesus as the honored guest and the topic for discussion would be "You did what in My name?"

The other day when there was that guy telling his students at their graduation that they're not special and Fark had a headline about the snowflakes finally getting what they deserved, I wrote that I had never seen a world where children are treated with too much kindness or given too much attention. This is what I was talking about. I had parents who never abused me, but in the town I grew up in as a kid, parents were just awful. It was commonplace to hear about kids being beaten with belts, kids having to cover for their drunken parents, etc. Basically, the town I grew up in was full of parents like this guy. Maybe there are some snowflake suburbs, but I think in general we have a long way to go in terms of ensuring the safety of children. We could start by closing the loopholes added to battery and assault laws that allow parents to hit their children and ending corporal punishment in schools. The fact that we are arguing about degree, in terms of how hard and with which implements should we be allowed to hit children and what color bruise can we leave, creates this ambiguousness in which children are commonly hit and commonly hit in erogenous zones at old ages (especially in schools and in the South) fairly hard. I don't see room for debate about degree. We don't need laws that make it OK for adults to hit each other as long as there's good cause or it's not too hard. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue if we did? If you could just punch someone in the face lightly because they got your burger order wrong? Insanity.

The AJC is not identifying the girl because she is a minor.

Thank GOD they are not identifying the fifteen year old daughter of Creflo A. Dollar Jr. The identity of the fifteen year old daughter of Creflo A. Dollar Jr. must be kept secret. If everyone knew the identity of the victim, the fifteen year old daughter of Creflo A. Dollar Jr., she could suffer undue embarrassment and shame. Hopefully her older sister, Dollar's 19-year-old daughter Alexandria Dollar, will also keep her identity under wraps.

What kind of demented mind does it take to beat your child, whether said child is 15 months old or 15 years old? I'll never understand how a parent could look at their child and say/think, "I'm so mad at you, I must hit you." I don't want to understand it either.

You're right. The Bible is very clear as to when you MUST sell your daughter into slavery and so on. Further, the daughter was in violation of a Commandment. She's going to Hell, by Christian standards.

Actually, to me, it seems like Fark is far more pro-Christian than it was a decade or so ago. The rise of superstitious theocratic bullshiat here seems to parallel its rise throughout the rest of America. It's sad and disgusting...all at the same time.

Not necessarily. Maybe you aren't aware of how the modern charismatic church works?

Randi Garrett, like many within modern churchianity (notice that I did not say Christianity, though they do believe they are Christians...sadly), are taught from day one that the pastor is the shepherd, appointed and ordained by God to oversee the flock. The pastor is the spiritual head and - some pastors actually teach this - can only be corrected by God Himself!

Garrett is probably brainwashed, but not necessarily a horrible human being. She literally (I have heard Creflo Dollar speak many years ago and heard men like him speak. Trust me, a few years of that is no different than being in a cult in that they keep very tight control over their people and "revelation" only comes through them - you cannot read it for yourself and correctly understand it. They're quite scary.) probably does not know any better.

It's vile and disgusting what these snakes do to people's minds in the name of my God. Swine like Creflo Dollar and Rod Parsley are the reason it is so very rare for me to set foot inside a church anymore - I can't keep my mouth shut when I see them deliberately twisting Scripture to their own ends.

FTFY

And all I can add is that the entire range of 'prosperity doctrine' preachers make my skin crawl. Not only because the doctrine is nowhere to be found in Scripture (unless you take Scripture out of context and twist it like a thousand pretzels), but because so many of them end up in the police blotters for shiat like this and/or embezzlement, tax evasion, etc.

That's the beauty of the system, if you don't believe you have no moral compass and will burn in hell. If you do believe you can do unspeakably horrible things and Jesus will forgive and forget, after all if you don't sin he died for nothing.

/paint em' all with the fundamentalist brush

"Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man-you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself-that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed."

Religion and the abandonment of reason makes you do a lot of bad things. You start to dislike people without good cause and mutilate the genitals of your children.

Reason is what sets us apart from the animals; religious people have rejected this gift.

Texas judge, not pastor. Unless there was another one than the one I am thinking of. She was of age by the time the story broke, so no foster care. And the statute of limitations had expired by the time the video was released so no criminal charges. We'll see after the next election whether he was douchy enough to lose his seat. Texas, though, so I doubt it.
