Disappointed, very disappointed.

And hence lay upon your child a felony assault under the guidelines of federal, state, and local statutes, and call it "parenting."

Not that this deal rose to that level....jus' sayin'...

Now, that is just what I was talking about. Abject racism. I hope you are proud.

He never mentioned a color. He never stated anything about race. You did. Therefore YOU'RE making it a racist issue.

Idiot.

Benjamin Orr: common sense is an oxymoron:
The headline is an understatement. Preacher man had his hands around his daughter's throat. Is that the behavior you're defending here?

I am pretty he/she isn't defending anything. Just pointing out that the bible is full of things that encourage/demands this kind of assault.

Maybe I'm overreacting to this line:

"Too bad none of you have actually read the Bible nor know what it actually contains."

Or maybe Poe's Law has claimed another victim.

Gandhi was also kind of a crazy person who had some interesting beliefs

You'll find this is true of most prophets, such as, oh, me, TheDavidTM. The main difference between the likes of Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Gandhi and me is that they had better PR flacks; they could afford them because they took bribes and shilled for the interests of their wealthy benefactors.

"Render unto Caesar" my ass. Render Caesar is more like it.

17 In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit.

I have and shut up.

If you have, then you know he did nothing wrong - at least according to Scripture. Hell, Jesus was known to get violent, too.

Now, legally, he may be in trouble. But there's no good reason to think that Jesus wouldn't have given and unruly child a proper beating.

Yes. But the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three separate entities that all comprise the Godhead. Jesus is the Son, and many of the letters in the NT refer to him as being "The firstborn of many brothers" and to us as being "sons of God and co-heirs with Christ." Seems to me, that the distinction should be kept, as it was understood by the NT writers.

Except Jesus never claimed to be born of a virgin. That claim about him was made by others. Also, the word for "virgin" can also be translated "young girl".

I know. I gotta learn to keep the Bible away from Christianity. Otherwise, I might expose something being taught as true in the church as false.

Hermione_Granger: First, even Jesus got pissed off, picked up a rope and started swinging and turning over tables when he got riled. So when it comes to WWJD, I'd say, if you get pissed enough and it's for a good cause, follow his example.

Second - I heard a radio announcer talking about this yesterday. He asked the question, 'How can a man run a million dollar church but can't control his daughter.' To which I can only refer him to Theodore Roosevelt who had a wild child daughter. When the press asked him why he, as president, couldn't better control his daughter, he replied: "I can either run the country or I can attend to Alice, but I cannot possibly do both."

Lastly, I think it's a pathetic shame that white people can kill young black men with little to no recourse (Trayvon Martin, Darius Simmons) but a black man cannot discipline his child the way he sees fit.

If the girl turned up missing, pregnant, on drugs or in any other trouble, he would be the first to get the blame. He shouldn't be blamed for doing what a parent should do when their kid gets out of line. White people won't discipline their own children and they refuse to respect cultural differences when it comes to other poeple checking theirs. If she's not dead and it's not repeated behavior then it's not abuse.

No bites but that was quality trolling.

"Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man-you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself-that you will escape the judgment of God? Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed."
(Romans 2:1-5 ESV)

Seems a lot of fundies forget this part.

And all I can add is that the entire range of 'prosperity doctrine' preachers make my skin crawl. Not only because the doctrine is nowhere to be found in Scripture (unless you take Scripture out of context and twist it like a thousand pretzels), but because so many of them end up in the police blotters for shiat like this and/or embezzlement, tax evasion, etc.

By "paradox" you mean irrational bullcrap.

And by admitting he was "fully human" Xianity pleads "nolo contendere" to the charge of blasphemy for worshiping a human.
