Evil farking dentists!

2012-06-09 09:29:53 PM
On Thursday, Pavon declined to open her door and said she did not want to be seen crying. Pavon said she couldn't afford to go to a licensed dentist and found Romero-Paredes through a recommendation.

But y'know nothing's wrong with the state of American healthcare.

2012-06-09 09:58:19 PM
Well I certainly shouldn't be expected to provide my own pliers and oxygen.

2012-06-09 09:59:13 PM
But fake dentists have a high suicide rate, so it's all good.

2012-06-09 10:01:51 PM
Investigators learned Pavon did have a dental license in Peru before moving to South Florida. He is now a U.S. citizen, police said.

So instead of allowing him to transfer his license to the US and become a productive member of society he was marginalized and forced into an under-the-table practice where he didn't have access to the proper equipment or facilities to provide care in a safe manner.

/only halfway kidding, he shouldn't have done the deed if he couldn't do it legally
//we shouldn't make it so hard for trained medical professionals who were licensed in other countries to practice here legally and professionally

Or a box of condoms.

Street docs are a necessity unless YOU are gonna pay for everything and make it illegal for doctors to report things like gunshot wounds to the police. The thing is, when street docs do a good deed, and they do, most of the time you never hear about it.

It's like home tattoos. So many people are out there with safe tattoos not done in a parlor. Many of them did the deed to themselves. Others work in a parlor but have the equipment at home also.

That one time someone gets an infection because they didn't check enough, it's news worthy. But the other 10000 times everything goes right everything comes up peaches and no one's the wiser.

This woman needed some major work and this guy only had some minor tools. Filling a cavity? Probably would never have been an issue.

bim1154: How about a "come to your home gynecologist"?

You may want to think this one through. I'd imagine if someone can't afford to see a regular gyno regularly, they would only see one in an emergency or in case of something bad. My thoughts is that, people would only call you if things down south were really bad, like a bad yeast infection or unimaginable horrors of the deep. So unless you are just hung and this is a premise for a bad porn movie, this may not be the calling you thought it to be.

I don't have a problem with regulation and oversight when it comes to medical procedures (which in this case includes dentistry). If you have a gunshot wound, it should be reported to the police. If it was an honest mistake ("I was hunting and thought it would be funny to sneak up on my buddies with antlers on my head") the chances are no charges will be pressed and no harm will be done beyond the wound and a loss of ego. If it comes to criminals who get wounded in the commission of a crime, either they seek help and get turned in, or try to shake it off and die of infection, either way justice is served. If it's bystanders in gangland maybe the get pressed into testifying, which they should do anyway, we have witness protection for a reason.

Home tattoos? I don't really care about. If you want to disfigure your body, go for it, do it professionally, let an amateur have at it, whatever, but if it gets screwed up and the only guy you can sue is Billy-Bob the neighborhood meth dealer and part time tattoo artist or your 15 year old bff Jill who 'totally knows what she's doing' it's on you.

Except that dentistry is easy affordable out of pocket because dental plan coverage tends to be shiat? If if you have dental benefits root canal therapy, a post, and crown is gonna be expensive. If you can't afford that level of coverage, you can certainly afford an extraction. There are dental clinics where you can get a simple extraction for next to nothing.

I've paid for a lot of dentistry out of pocket because I took shiatty care of my teeth as a teenager. I have no sympathy for the individual in the article.

If you need surgery and pins to fix that compound fracture leg, we'll just cut the whole thing off. You can always get a peg leg!

It'd be a better comparison if dental caries wasn't a completely avoidable disease. If you're at the point that you need a post and crown, it means you neglected your teeth for a rather long period of time. I am familiar with exactly that level of neglect. I did it myself. I didn't blame anybody else or expect the government to fix my mistakes. I was able to, on not exactly a high income, replace all my broken teeth parts with metal, glass, and plastic. A few missing teeth won't stop you from being able to live life if you can't afford the fancy fix if you lack the budgeting ability to pay for the expensive treatment.

I'm guessing he's a racist who's angry about people calling him out for blatant racism, so now he's trying to make a retarded right-wing point. He doesn't have two brain cells to rub together, which is why he doesn't realize that it doesn't make him look less racist, it only makes him look pathetic and mentally ill. Yeah, that would be my guess.

Dental care, like medical care, would be a lot more realistic, if patients could easily shop around. As it is now, people have to call everyone in the phone book hoping for quotes. Doctors and Dentists should feel free to advertise rates for basic services. It is what the free market wants.

Is there regulation stopping from doing that now? I recently visited a walk-in facility that had the prices for common procedures posted on a bit board in the waiting room (a requirement that is Rick Scott's only decent achievement as governor). The funny thing is the amount paid out of my pocket was higher if I claimed it on my insurance than if I paid the 'pay now uninsured patient rate'. Thankfully the girl behind the counter was kind enough to delete my insurance information from their computer and let me pay the fair rate posted.

Even better than allowing doctors and clinics to advertise rates though would be a government mandate enforcing the maximum charges for various procedures. If we want to reduce healthcare costs lets control them from the top down. A single payer system combined with cost controls would save everyone money and be to the benefit of pretty much everyone except for fat cat doctors that overcharge and health insurance companies that allow it.
