whidbey: It appears to be the most possible scenario. You even went into some kind of incomprehensible "Bonnie and Clyde" kind of spiel up ^there ^ too, like we're supposed to root for these criminals.

Incomprehensible only if you're a complete partisan Fox News buffoon, which I'm sure you are. The bank robbers and gangsters of the Depression Era were looked upon by many as heroes for the same reason that Tea Baggers and Libertarians today think that the Fed is a farce; they're stealing their hard-earned money and giving it to fast-talking, slick-dressed scoundrels.

But in your mind, and the minds of idiots who think it's always about "the good guys" versus "the bad guys" it's always easy to choose sides.

Whether you like it or not, some of those guys in Alcatraz were once respectable businessmen who continued to run the liquor trade despite what we now know was a bad constitutional amendment borne out of stupidity. People like you love government as long as you think its doing what you want. But when it leads to so much bullshiat (like the War on Drugs) you don't have the balls to stand up on principle and denounce it for the bad it does.

In other words, you're a wishy-washy pansy-ass fool.

In other words, RON PAUL. I knew it.

They farking drowned, all the available evidence points to it, and this is about the 3rd or 4th time I've called you out on your ridiculous speculative pro-outlaw fetish.

They were crooks. Only it sounds like they didn't just make the proverbial "one mistake" criminals make, but several. Now if you'll excuse me, I think I'm going to load another bowl and laugh about how you think I'm some kind of Fox News worshiper, for god knows what reason. That's the joke, I guess.

Except there isn't any evidence they drowned but what exists in your feeble, isolated mind.

It's established that they built a raft and paddled to the Marin Headlands. You have yet to refute that. All you have done is mouth blah blah blah nonsense the government has said.

Thanks for playing. Now go back to f*cking your chicken.

Oh wait, my best evidence against the three guys escaping from Alcatraz is that anyone who attempts to make the case they were successful is a low-life criminal d-bag who wants all criminals to escape justice.

So there.

Guess I'm just owned.

End of story.

No point in discussing this further.

Douchebag.

I thought Andy Dufresne got credit for that.

Honestly, I'm not the one clinging to some anti-government fantasy involving 3 very likely drowned Alcatraz inmates all while uttering expletive-laced projective behavior upon anyone bored or foolish to reply. I think it's time to look in the mirror, Degenz. . To think this simple unsuspecting thread was the cry for help, the catalyst to your next 20 years.

Honestly, because yes, you are exactly what you just described. But thanks for playing.

For what it's worth, it sounds like they made it to the island. The article mentions the raft being found on the island North of The Rock. The raft had footprints leading away from it. Sounds to me like at least one of them made it that far at least, and possibly further. Who knows, maybe one or all of them made it to that island, only to drown going from there to the mainland. Maybe they all made it to Mexico. The evidence doesn't concretely suggest they made it to safety, and it doesn't confirm they died. Either option is a possibility. Also, If someone managed to escape the island that was 'escape-proof', do you really think the authorities would let everyone know that?

chewielouie: I did that race two years ago, super fun. The swim isn't as bad as they make it out to be, and I'm from Florida where swimming in the ocean feels like bathwater sometimes. I'm sure you're using a wetsuit, but I highly recommend you get some wax earplugs. Just roll them around in the palm of your hand to warm them up, and then press them to your ear canal. They'll keep the cold water out and prevent headaches which could indeed make the swim miserable. Other than that, enjoy the race.

And I did. It was an oddly warm day in SF. I have been training in snow melt river water so the ocean temperature was not an issue. Learned the ear plugs/wet suit cap the first time I swam in cold water. My issues was not being prepared for the heat so I was dragging on the run and my goggles were a little warped on the right side so I had a constant leak. Did the swim in 40 minutes. Biking in just over an hour. Then, I started dragging.
