NewportBarGuy: Begun the drone war has.

The sad thing is that there won't be any "drone wars". The people will quietly accept this destruction of privacy in exchange for a promise of greater security and less "crime". The few who do oppose it will be labeled as being anti-safety or anti-security, a practice already well established for promoting the safety and security industries and empire-building bureaucrats like the TSA.

How much energy would it take to make an EMP strong enough to get drones 500 ft up? Possible with commonly-available parts or impossible?

Hey I thought Obama was about change. But it seems since he rose to power he's just happily continuing down the same path Bushy was taking you folks. A few more years of this and you'll have to change your name to the Soviet States of America instead.

Given how much taxpayers have been soaked for super-duper-mini UAVs that already don't work, the golf-ball sized super-duper-micro-UAVs are probably just vapour ware being released so some farkwit can get some free PR and eventually a contract for something else that won't work.

• How will it fly?
• How will it be powered?
• How will its connectivity work?
• How will it be manufactured?
• How will it be maintained?

If you can't answer all of these, you don't have a product. You have PR.

serial_crusher: Meh, if you have something to hide, you should hide it better.

Maybe in the hole the government kicked our privacy and Constitutional rights into?

I work on learning systems that understand and interpret video in faster than real time, so no only am I getting a kick, I'm facing a whole lot of employment security.

That said, the modern world sucks. When there's more cameras that people to interpret the footage, we've gone off the deep end.

I bet there will be a whole host of people getting massively butthurt over this who also have absolutely no problem letting private companies have all of their information.

/If you have done nothing wrong you should still worry because it only takes the creation of a new law to make something you're currently doing illegal

I'm thinking #9 shot. Small enough that you get a large number of projectiles with each shot, so you'll likely hit it, and it's fine enough that it won't hurt anybody significantly down range.

First they installed the CCTV and red-light cameras... and I said nothing.

Then they ruled the sky with their drones of death.

Begun the drone war has.
