I'm going to guess that I already knew at least a quarter of those things and don't give a flying fark about the rest.

DNRTFASS

They showed Alien in a sci-fi literature course I took in high school. Best class ever. The same teacher taught the Bible as Literature. We didn't see Alien in the Bible class though. The Bible is actually an interesting book if you can get past the whole religious aspect

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: PanicMan: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: That part of the story was fine... What I didn't like is that the whole expedition was basically to find life-extending procedures for Weyland. Who is Weyland? Some old guy in a holographic corporate training video (until the third act reveal).

Why was Weyland played by a young guy made to look like an old guy? Why not just use an old guy?

This!!!

The TED viral marketing campaign / prologue?

Honestly, he nailed the faux TED speech, and it was a nice touch he was in the movie. I agree the makeup was a little of a letdown and reminiscent of a low budget trek episode, but the connection to the prologue was what made it special IMO.

Just got back from Prometheus, and this seems like the only greened thread to discuss it in.

I liked it a lot. It is GORGEOUS. Such an incredibly great looking and well made movie. What struck me was that almost everything in the movie seemed like it was specifically designed to be cool/blow your mind. Given that, I think the movie breaks down like this:

50% was absolutely great and hit exactly, often making me smile in appreciation/horror.
25% was just silly and dumb, and these decisions usually seemed like they belonged in lesser sci-fi.
25% was cool but really didn't make any sense, so even though the decision made you go "whoa", two seconds later you say "wait, that doesn't really make any sense and didn't need to be there"

Don't want to be spoilery, so I'll wait a bit to be specific. Overall, very good.

FeedTheCollapse: the scene with Ripley's daughter is fine, but everything else about the extended cut is just redundant and throws off the pacing of the film, especially early on. Never understood why the sentry gun scenes are so beloved as they're not really important.

Why don't the aliens just attack the complex through the doors? Because they tried the doors and were shot by the sentry guns. They stopped attacking just before the guns ran out of ammo. Since the aliens had no way to know how much ammo was left, the second assault was via the ceiling.

The guns scene isn't very long and nicely establishes that the aliens aren't waging an unconventional attack just because it's scary.

Cabin in the woods had guns, right?

Okay, folks, all you pissing about how Weaver doesn't like guns, well, she doesn't and yet still made a kick-ass movie WITH GUNS that we all love, and went on do do even more cool movies, even though in her private life she's a gun-hating libtard. Is it okay to just drop the frothing a little bit? Just a tad? Give her some slack for entertaining you?

Aliens-The Deleted Stuff
16. An early exchange between Ripley and Burke (Paul Reiser), in which he delivers information about Ripley's daughter, who died two years prior. Weaver later expressed dismay at the excision of this scene, which she claims to have based all her character beats on, especially all the stuff about Ripley's need to kept Newt safe.

17. An early scene set in the colony of "Hadley's Hope" on LV-426 (dubbed Acheron by Cameron for the film, though the name is never said out loud). Newt and her brother (played by Henn's real-life sibling) drive out with their parents to the wreck of the derelict craft from the first film. The parents disappear inside. When they emerge, Newt's father has a facehugger attached to his head.

18. Several moments with some kickass remote-controlled sentry guns that amp up the tension right before the horde crashes through the ceiling.

I remember the network TV premiere version of Aliens containing these scenes, and thinking that they made the storyline better.

To kick off a new feature called "Vulture Scavenger," we watched all four Alien films (repeat after us: There are no Alien v. Predator movies)

Not only are there no AvP movies, I have no idea what they is talking about concerning a third and fourth Alien film.

Ripley, Hicks, Newt, and unca' Bishop got back to earth and lived happily ever after.

Dwight_Yeast: Teknowaffle: Dear god, I am not a big gun person, but for farks sake, Sigourney Weaver has a serious psychological issue about them. Not healthy lady.

If her argument is "guns won't be used in the future" I have to agree with her.

/No problem with people owning guns

Nope, it was "I give a lot of money to organizations that work to keep guns away from people, therefore I don't want guns in my films"

Acting is about make believe lady, you check your real life and inhibitions at the soundstage door.

How do you think they make movies like "Brokeback Mountain" with two straight actors?

How many of those 44 things involve Sigorney Weaver walking around in her underwear? I'm quite happy to view a 44 page slideshow, if at least 40 of the slides are Sigourney Weaver in her underwear. Otherwise, not so much.
